I have discovered a new way to use my coconut oil. Recently, I switched from Coco. oil to EVOO as my go-to deep conditioning before shampooing and have been very happy with the results.
The only thing that concerns me is that the EVOO seems to soak in so fast, that sometimes I feel like I need to add more.
The other night I was giving my cats some coconut oil because they love it and it keeps the hairballs under control. So, I had all this extra oil on my hands and decided to put it on my length, OVER the EVOO.
Oh, my goodness! My hair is sooooo soft and very little frizz after washing.
Have I finally stumbled across my perfect oiling method? All thanks to the kitties?
So, my question is this: Does anyone else use a combination of oils on their hair? If so, what do you use? Also, if you use something other than EVOO or coconut oil, could you please tell in your post where you buy it? I have had a TERRIBLE time finding other oils. I've wanted to try jojoba and sweet almond, but cannot find them in stores near me.
Thanks!! :)

I do this when I'm moisturizing my skin!!! I think that EVOO is really moisturizing, while Coconut oil creates a barrier to seal in (or out) moisturizer. The fastest way to nice skin for me is to use something like EVOO and then lock it in with Shea or Coconut oil, I think.

I have a mix of coconut, EVOO and avocado oil in a bottle that I use for body and hair. I love this combination, too. A little goes a loooong way....

Interesting. I just posted about using evoo mixed with shampoo (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=1438129&postcount=18). I usually put a bit of evoo on my ends throughout the week until the next wash, but I might try co in this case.
On the whole, though, I tried and tried and tried coconut oil because it seems to be such a panacea for so many people, but I'm pretty impressed with evoo at the moment. Of course, this may change, as things do.

Am using argan oil. I love the way it makes my hair shiny.

Does anyone know any good places to buy shea butter, argan oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil? I can't find them anywhere!

I do this! I use Coconut Oil as my main oil, but only on the day after washing I use both Coconut Oil (a lot, and first) and then Sweet Almond Oil (second, just a bit). It is very very oily, so I only do this before bed, braid it and in the morning it's wonderful!
I found sweet almond oil in Stop and Shop grocery store. It was in the same place where olive oil is, at one end of the olive oil display on the top shelf they had a small assortment of other oils (sesame oil, peanut oil, sweet almond, and a few others).

Thanks for all the buying tips! I will check out those websites. You know, I never have thought of looking for almond oil in the regular "oil" section of the grocery store. I've always looked in the health food/organic section, where I buy my coconut oil. Thanks, guys!

Thanks! I want to try that. I have used EVOO and Coconut oil individually, but never together.
By the way, and correct me if I am wrong, but a friend of mine told me that Jojoba oil isn't really an oil. It is more like a wax, or something like that. Does that mean that it wouldn't work as well as EVOO, but it might work more like coconut oil?
Just some thoughts,
Ivy

I use EVOO with shea butter. I've also got a few other oils floating around that I need to experiment with. I get them from MountainRoseHerbs.com since most stores where I live don't carry what I want.

If you live near a Vitamin Shoppe, they have a ton of various oils. I'm thinking about making a trip there myself...maybe tomorrow.

If you have a Target near, look in their cooking oil section. :)

Try shopping at GNC stores, the Vitamin Shoppe, Whole Foods grocery stores, Trader Joe grocery stores, any local health food stores, or on-line at Amazon.com, etc.

I'm so excited. I bought sweet almond oil at a great discount and never even thought of using it on my hair! I'm going to try it. I bet it will smell SO good.

I use jojoba oil all the time and my skin and hair love it. I find it to be a very thin oil which is why I like it. I use to use EVOO but found it to be to heavy for me. Then I heard about jojoba about 7 months ago and haven't used anything else since. It goes a long way too. I got a small bottle of it at my health food store and have barely used half of it over these past 7 months.
I'm not to sure about it being a wax or not. It absorbs nicely. The only reason why your friend might have thought that it's a wax is because jojoba oil, even when pure, becomes very solid when cold. I like my bedroom cold when I sleep and here in New England the temp drops pretty low at night. If I leave my bedroom window open on a cold night the oil freezes up but it does melt back quickly and maintain its consistancy .
