View Full Version : henna gloss to roots only - when?

Hey, glossers!!
I'm sitting here with my third full-head gloss on. I use the Nightshade copper henna blend, and I LOVE the color. Love, love, love, love.
My question is - at what point do I need to switch to roots-only to maintain, rather than build up? I find that the color lasts VERY well with just glosses - and I definitely don't want to go much darker than current. So should I just switch to roots only from this point?
Also - any pointers for roots-only application of henna?

The point at which you switch to roots-only is the point at which you don't want to go any darker.
My best advice for roots-only application is a color applicator bottle (http://www.sallybeauty.com/Color-Applicator-Bottle/SBS-265100,default,pd.html), used to draw lines approximately one cm apart on the scalp, then smoosh the lines together.
Some people divide their hair into quarters and loosely braid each section (leaving the roots portion loose), then smoosh the henna into the unbraided parts.

Thank you! I will have to switch to that, because I love my current color! :)

Hi Medievalmaniac!
May I ask, what you're recipe is that you use for your gloss? I know theyre are soooo many, but i've never glossed (or henna'd, for that matter) before, so i'm looking for a recipe to try.

I just want to share that when I do my roots I use a ziploc bag (usually with leftover frozen henna) and cut a corner off and use that in my sections to line then smoosh in.

Lacey - I used Nightshade's copper mix blend. :)
K8tea - that sounds like a good solution! I have the little applicator bottles...just not sure I can get the henna "just" on the roots!!
