Anyone ever tried ginger and sesame oil mixed together. You grate the ginger and mix it with sesame oil. Apply to hair and leave it for an hour or longer. I heard it some where and tried and noticed growth with in a week I was just wondering if anyone else had ever heard or tried it and had any feedback.

If it doesn't help the hair, you can use the leftovers in a stir-fry :D

it sounds really interesting, but I wonder if the sesame smell would go out easily?

Sesame is a semi-drying oil (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=190).. so overusing it could lead to build up after a while.

(Props to Ktani for the article)

I don't know about hair, but that sounds kind of tasty, maybe for won tons or something.

I'm not sure about applying it to hair, but this sounds like a great stir-fry recipe! (... as several others have already mentioned!)

Applying ginger to the scalp is traditionally meant to stimulate hair growth, it's one of those old wives tales that seem to work for some people but not others.

I agree that sesame oil probably isn't the best choice of carrier oil for this purpose, perhaps infusing olive oil with ginger might be kinder on the hair or scalp.
I made an infusion of dried ginger root in the past and rinsed my hair and scalp with it, massaging it in, but it caused build up in my hair and was very drying. Never again.

Ginger oil, when applied to the skin, is very warming and improves circulation. I suspect that's why the theory that it stimulates hair growth developed.

I've used it as a muscle rub on joints in the past with average success.

In ayurveda sesame oil is recommended for scalp massages.

I've used grated ginger in aloe for scalp massages. I didn't do it frequently enough to determine whether or not it improved growth, but it feels really nice.
