All my life I have grown long say nearly waist and then on impulse chopped it short and cried because ive known almost straight away id made a huge mistake yet this time round ive not had the urge to do this since reaching waist.

I wonder if this is because I am older and don't feel the need to experiment with shorter hair or if this is down to my hair being in better condition? which of course I give LHC the credit for-thank you.

Anybody else lose the urge to cut, once they get to a certain length or age?

My urge to cut has gone away now that my hair is long enough to get in the way! :)

I'm not sure I've ever had an urge to cut. I've always seen it as a sort of a bother to cut/trim, but I did it because my ends got bad or because me and/or my DH would roll over on my hair at night. Right now my ends look good and I figured out how to secure it at night (thanks LHC) so I haven't trimmed since last March and don't plan on doing it any time soon.

I've lost the urge to cut, mostly because I've become super busy and I don't really want to take the time to style shorter hair. I also think that 3 or 4 pixie cuts in college and looking at the growing out pictures have really cured me of cutting my hair again more so than any age or length I've reached. While I might cut back to BSL or shoulder depending on how my life works out in the future I'll never cut shorter than that again.

I THINK I'm there! I don't feel the URGE! Looking at LHC photo albums will wipe out the sneaky chop chop goblins when they start to lurk!

I don't think I ever really had it. And the times I have cut my hair back (the shortest since I've been a kid was right about shoulder), I didn't regret it.

I have grown my hair out to waist length and then cut it short for a change a few times in my life. I never regretted it so I am not really worried. If I get bored and go short, it will be just one more path in my hair journey.

I finally lost the urge to cut after chopping all my hair off in 2008 down to a little pixie cut.

I had past waist length hair at the time and was just sick of it.

Now I'm old enough to remember that it's just as much work(if not moreso) taking care of shorter hair and trying to make it look decent as it is taking care of longer hair. If anything longer hair is much easier because it tends look nice just because of how long it is. lol Shorter hair actually needs to be styled. Ugh.

I do still feel strong urges to trim though.
I'm fighting those.

I had a "down to the wood chop" in December 2008. Short hair is much more work than long hair. Now that I'm close to APL, I just pick out one of my lovely hair toys, put it up and just go about my day. I have the illusion of short with the the beauty of length, it doesn't get better than this! However, all that said, I have had moments when I did toss around the idea of cutting more than just an inch or two. It always seemed to be the result of a negative comment from someone close to me. Thank heavens I have TLHC to help keep me focused, I just log on, whine some, and before I know it, words of encouragement start to flood in, I am so fortunate to be a part of this wonderful community!:p

Although I love long hair I also love chopping it super short. I have never been unhappy with a chop either. This time growing my hair I haven't had the urge to chop at all but I do get the urge to trim quite often. I can't wait until I reach my goal length so I can start trimming more regularly.

I personally just felt the urge, and went with it.

I went from chin to waist, then cut back to a more layered BSL. I thought that would satisfy the urge. I didn't cut again, and I was back at waist (I'm short, so that wasn't that long, 4-5 months probably). Then I decided to cut to shoulder and made an appointment over two weeks from that day. By the time the appointment got here, I decided to go shorter. I really like it, I have looked the same for a long time and I needed a change, I think. I will probably grow it back out again later though, it's in my nature to grow-then-cut-then-grow I think.

I have never had the urge to cut really I guess, it is the urge to change. I got tired of coloring it so....

I'm just a very impuslive person. I don't think that answers your question, but I thought I would offer my insight on the whole urge thing :D

I never have had the 'urge to chop'. I've read a lot of people on the boards mention things like "I'm fighting the urge to chop!" and heard my RL friends say "I cut my hair, I just couldn't help it!" and I can't really understand. At no point in my life can I ever recall wanting short hair.
Although sometimes my hair looks really thin and I feel an urge to cut it back to a point where it's thicker, but it's the same 'urge' that I get when I feel the urge to punch my brother in the face when he makes me mad-- the kind I'd never actually even consider doing.
Pre LHC I spent many many years growing my hair out to BSL, cutting back to APL to get rid of fried, damaged ends, and repeating the cycle over and over and over again. Since joining LHC, I've learned many techniques to take care of my ends and have been doing microtrims regularly, and my hair is in much better condition, and has grown to waist, which is a current record. Onward march!

I know JUST what you mean Jojo! I grow, chop, grow, chop, grow, chop.....I always wish later that I hadn't chopped, but then I always had a good "reason" at the time. This time I'm not chopping, I don't even have the tiniest urge to do it (despite the fact I'm growing out dye). Do you know I've never gotten beyond BSL because of my chopping urges? It's going to be different from now on.....

I too have a grow cut cycle. Also, like you, I hope that this time will be different because my hair will be in better condition. Through the years I have realized another way to delay the jones to cut is to change the color. Now that I have discovered henna, a healthy way to color, I might just be keeping my long hair!

I think there must be something wrong with me. I've never had an urge to cut! That part must've gotten left out . . . isn't anyone doing quality control on the little piggies?!? (^(oo)^)
