Like once you've achieved the color you like, do you need to periodically do a light henna gloss to maintain the pretty shine?

I've done 3 henna glosses each lasting for about 45 minutes (the procedure, that is). The first two applications lasted about a month. This third one seems to be keeping it's shine longer.

Well ive been hennaering since October 2010 ish and my hair has retained its shine, but I did have shiny hair when it was all virgin. As far as I know unlike chemical dyes which look nice and shiny to start with but dull overtime, henna keeps its shine.

For me, always. So I second jojo on this.
I did my last henna (no gloss, full application) 3 or 4 years ago and my tips with the last vestiges are still red and shiny. Although my virgin hair has now a nice shine, too, the henna shine is very different in quality. (As you can imagine, shining tips and dull roots have been a tough combination while growing out...)

Pretty much forever. This picture is taken about two months after henndigo-ing. My hair's a little mussed up, please excuse that, but as you can see, it's still pretty shiny.
