I use coconut milk occasionally as a deep treatment. I apply it to dry hair, bun, cover with a shower cap and leave on for a couple hours. Then I shampoo out. It leaves my hair very soft.
As for coconut oil, have you tried looking in the cooking oil section? That is where I find mine.

I tried it once and hated it, greasy hair for a week despite having to wash it every day....never again!

Hmmm, I was just at our local health food store and they had coconut milk on sale. My husband asked me if I wanted some but I couldn't think of what to use it for. Maybe I'll go back and get it now and try it on my hair!

Coconut milk is good in small doses...I often add a teaspoon to SMT, or just conditioner. To combat the oiliness after, you must CO or W-C-W it out.

I get my coconut oil on ebay. You can find good extra virgin organic coconut oil for pretty cheap. My girl always ships very fast too, I always get it in a couple days.

The same happened to me a few weeks ago.
Greasy hair even after I washed it twice.
The first time I used Coconut milk my hair came out very shiny and soft, but I think I used another brand of Coconut milk.

I love to use it on my hair, in fact it happens to be in my hair right now! I apply it from the ears down, you will be amazed how much your hair soaks up, then bag it, leave for an hour or so and rinse out using conditioner if you wish. I find it leaves my hair soft and really shiny, it also seems to leave a layer that works well protecting my hair. If I was you I'd give it a go and see how it works with your hair, it also makes your skin amazingly soft.

I'll have to try coconut milk. Does it come in a can? Is it found in the baking section?

It does come in a can. In my grocery store it is in the international food aisle in the Asian section. Don't get the low fat version. Low fat may be better for your hips, but not for your hair! :)

Does anyone have problems with the guar gum in some coconut milks? My hair hates it, so I have to find one that's pure coconut milk.

can anyone tell me if I can put the coconut milk in the freezer?
I have bought a can for a hair mask, but I can't use it all in one go, and I don't want to throw it away.

You can freeze coconut milk when you use it for cooking at least, both the milk alone and as part of dishes. However I do not know if it would affect use as a hair treatment. I think the coconut milk would probably be a little harder to apply as I imagine it can become a bit thinner after having been frozen but other than that I think it would be fine. My advice would however be to freeze your leftover coconut milk and use the frozen milk for cooking and buy a new can for your hair, just to be on the safe side.

thanks for all your helpful replies ! i still havent got round to getting hold of the oil! im going to get some online cos i just cant find it here , not even in holland and barrett! in the ean time im going to use the coconut milk from ear to ends, leave on for a bit and CO out! im curious to see if it will work! im hoping it will help me as i have ends that are damaged from too many perms through the years!
than again for your help guys! u r the best! :D
okay.... im back......
.....my hair loves it!
in the end i just opened the can and emptied the milk in pyrex dish! the consistency was actually thicker than i thought it would be so it wasnt as difficult getting it smeared all over! ( i just put it all over my hair in the end but did not massage it into the scalp) the consistency of my cocnut milk was just like light conditioner!
i then wrapped my hair in towel and waited an hour and a half!
i then ran a bath and got in and laid back in water! that was fab cos my bath water became a coconut milk bath soak! mmmm nice! i had a nice soak in the coconut milk and my skin is sooooo soft now! :)
i then CO washed under the shower !
my hair is drying now and it is sooo soft! does not feel greasy atall! ! have soft skin and hair! i gave OH a hug a min ago and he said wow! you smell great! u smell of coconuts! and you are kind of..... soft.... lol! :D when i told him i bathed in coconut milk his eyes nearly jumped out of their sockets! lol! he thinks its strange lol!

Me and my experiments
I had a can of opened organic coconut milk in the fridge, I thought I might as well try it in my hair. Huge fail. My hair became unbelievably greasy! Like a huge chunk of grease.
So this morning I had to get up early to buy some CO conditioner (I haven't had any in a long time) to wash my hair. I CO:ed thrice, and my hair is still greasy, at least from the ears down. I must admit, it is soft. But I think it will take a while for it to become normal again, I wont be able to wear it down for a while.
*sigh*

coconut milk is delicious in all things. Fried rice, baked goods, general asian cooking. I always buy it when it goes under 99 cents a can.

*blink* I'm surprised to hear people report oiliness from coconut milk. Perhaps, coconut milk powder may be a good alternative? Just by coconut milk powder and add water. Let the powder dissolve in the water and do a hair soak. A lot of people get crunchy dries out hair from this but it made mine soft and conditoned. It really depends on your hair type.
