Hi! Im new to the whole Cassia/henna thing, and i have a few questions. I would love to get the strengthening and conditioning effects of henna, but without any colourchange, is that possible? Can i use Cassia to do this? And what does amla do to your hair? Is that the same thing? What mixture is the best to start off with? Im dark blonde with fine hair, and would want to thicken it up and give the individual hairs some more strength.
A lot of questions, but i hope some of them can be answered. :)

I really recommend you do a cassia/henna gloss if you only want conditioning and little to no hair color change. There are various articles on LHC is you search for them on how to make your ideal gloss.
Amla powder helps make hair glossy and silky. You can also use it on your skin to help exfoliate. You can even add it to your henna/cassia gloss. I recommend trying it one way or another.

Cassia doesn't thicken quite as well as henna but -- I wouldn't use ANY henna if you don't want a color change. Cassia with condition, strengthen and possibly brighten your blonde. Cassia turns my grey hairs blonde those some people don't notice a color change at all.

Henna and cassia will both change your color, though if you're *dark* blonde the cassia may not show much at all. Cassia's thickening and shine effect last about 3 weeks for me. It gives a golden yellow (some would say brassy) color.
I'd try amla or zizyphus for thick hair (more volume). Amla makes my hair shiny and thick with more body, zizy made it poufy and huge but not shiny, but it does give shine for some people. Effects are temporary with both.

I tried Light Mountain's "Neutral Henna" (mostly cassia, though henna was mentioned on the package) a week or two ago and it darkened my blonde hair. I'm naturally a golden blonde, but after the cassia treatment I was more of a dark blonde. After one honey lightening treatment I was back to my natural color, though.
I followed the instructions on the box (add 12-16 oz hot distilled water, let sit 1 hour) instead of trying out any of the recipes I've seen here. I'm not sure my hair feels thicker or stronger but I'll give it a few more tries before giving up.

i think that henna is out of the question then, because i dont want any colourchange at all. I have my own hair in every way possible, no chemicals has altered the colour or condition in any way, and i am very happy with the colour. plus, i dont want to have to colour it to cover up roots. :p im way too lazy for that, haha.
i actually have some amla powder that i dont know what to do with it. what do you use it with?

no i figure i dont want to take the risk, so henna is out of the question for me. thanks for the advice :) might give cassia a try, with my natural colour i dont think it will make a difference, and since its only temporary it could be worth it.

But the cassia colour is temporary, unlike henna, ringht? i have some amla powder on hand right now, how long does the effects last for you with amla? and how do you mix it? with yoghurt, water, oil or something else?

How did the condition of the hair feel after the "neutral henna"?

For me cassia fades about 50% in 3-4 weeks but not completely. It can also build up and get more yellow on me with repeated use.
I mix amla with hot water (you can even boil it in the microwave, it's not a dye) into a loose paste and stroke it through the hair. Effects last about 3 weeks for me. I think if you mix with something heavy and oily it might counteract the benefits. I've mixed it with yogurt in order to remove my henna overload before, though.

The first day after my hair felt a bit strange. My length felt almost coarse and dry. This may have been from excessive shampooing while trying to rinse out the mixture, though (yeah, I know, not smart...probably better to use conditioner than shampoo). I used some coconut oil on my length and the strange texture went away.
My hair doesn't feel thicker or stronger to me, but I just measured and my ponytail is between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thicker now and my hair seems to be tangling a bit less than it used to.
