Hi all!

On the forum I've read lot's of stories on henna and for some people henna tends to fade over time.

My question: How fast does henna fade on you guys? and what is the cause of this fading?

Is it the kind of henna or climate conditions or frequent sles washing?

I am wondering because my henna does not tend to fade and I am wondering why?

I've been hennaing my roots for up to 6-7 months now and it hasn't been necessary to henna my whole head again. I most admit this is cheap, but why does my henna not fade like it does for some of you?

When I henna my roots, I also do a hennagloss (from leftovers) of the lenght with lots of conditioner and oils. So for the colour this shouldn't really matter, or am I wrong?

Some more info:
- I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner (cone and sles free) on day 1 and wash it again on day 3 or 4.
- I henna my roots every 4 weeks with about 80-100 grams and hennagloss of leftovers
- I sometimes do a conditioning treatment or mist, but not very often

According to everything I've read and my own experience, henna doesn't fade, unless it's a first application or not pure henna.

Maybe I've read about the first application or not pure henna then...

Henna on first app fades badly, plus I do not get the color building up with repeat apps, so for me - I think it fades some, but not like chem red.

Using henna with hot water and/or inadequate dye release time can cause a weaker stain, and quite a bit of fading. Henna dye released properly doesn't fade too much on most people. Some people want it to fade, so they can re-do the length and not get colour build up with darkening from repeat applications, so they use hot water on purpose. HTH.

I only did one application more than a decade ago. It gradually faded, thank goodness!

I am no help with henna, but everyone says how quickly red hair dye fades but it doesn't fade on me. And I don't even use a permanent dye, just a Demi-color. It stays FOREVER.

When I used hendigo it never faded infact i grew it out and the ends 2 years later still glowed red in the sun.
I applied henna streaks twice on virgin hair and it fade and has all but dissapeared.
Same type of henna from the same place good quality (h4h)

My previous hair had been chemically dyed so thats the only real difference. I think that it can fade on virgin hair, but I am sure multiple applications would stop that?

I used lush caca rouge and that has definitely already faded pretty significantly after 4 washes.
I would say it's faded faster on my dark brown virgin hair, and has gone a golden orange colour, rather than the reddish orange colour I first got.. :(

Have some super potent henna waiting to be used (all being well with strand testing) so we'll see how it fades second time round. :)

My henna has been pretty permanent. I no longer henna my length and only do my roots.

Since I've started using BAQ henna it hasn't faded at all. I have seen Lush henna fade really quickly though.
