I'm thinking of hennindigo-ing my hair.

Now, I've dyed with L'Oreal Feria in Leather (natural black ) I know a lot of people hate that dye but I've never had any problems.

Now.
I'm basically just thinking of trying to dye with something more gentle and better for my hair. However, I'm scared to death! I terrified that I'll end up with severely damaged hair after applying the henna/indigo or that it'll be green :( I've always heard you can't place henna over chemical dye? I've been told different here...I'm so confused.

Also, the whole process confuses me. How much of each would a person use on hair 2-3 inches past shoulder, of medium thickness? Will I have to apply indigo 2-3 times before I get that lovely black?

I guess I'm just looking for opinions/stories....take care all! Happy New Years!

The "no henna on coloured hair" comes from the fact that henna is often mixed with metalic compounds that react unfavorably with chem dyes. Pure body art quality (BAQ) henna (and indigo) will not react like that.

i kept my hair bleached/colored for awhile and when i got tired of root touch ups, i used henna+indigo to go back to my naturally black Asian hair. my hair was above shoulder length so i really can't answer for how much one would need for past shoulder length hair, but i only had to henna(body art quality) and indigo my hair once to go from light brown hair to jet black.
right after washing indigo off i did kinda see extremely slight greenish tint, but it was no problem at all! it was barely noticeable(only by me when i looked in to my hair intently close to mirror).and that tint washed right off after couple days. results were amazing. it was so glossy and sleek! it went from hay stack to black glass!after couple months it faded to darkest brown color but it was okay with me.

You may not be able to get the same black, just to warn you. You may end up with a warm black, with a red glow in the sun, so think carefully.

Also, as MandaMom2Three mentioned, you are fine to henna over dye, so long as it is BAQ. I'm not sure how indigo works, but the henna will be fine. It will not ruin your hair. It may change the texture a little, especially for the first few days, and it may make your hair a little straighter. It did for me, and we have similar hair types.

I'm not a henna expert in any way, but you could/should do a strand test before doing the whole head :)
