I just tried the SMT and it left my hair all frizzy, with fly-aways, crunchy ends, lots of volume (which I dont like since my hair is really thick, and I look like a lion) :(. I used 4 parts conditioner (alberto VO5 blackberry) 1 aloe vera (lily of the desert) 1 honey (raw).

What could it be? Honey or aloe vera gel? I know my hair doesn like aloe vera gel much, I used the defrizz spray with AVG and it left it all crunchy, but I read honey causes frizz.

Help? I really need to use a good moisture treatment, my hair is really damage from past abuse.

Don't worry too much - although it seems as if it's super-popular on LHC, actually a fair number of people don't get on with SMT. My hair hated it (but it was so long ago that I tried it, I don't remember the exact details). So I just concluded that I'd saved myself the trouble of having to mix it up ever again.

My hair also hated SMT. I tried it maybe 3 times and never bothered again.

My hair is in the "hates SMT" club, too! I don't get frizz, just mushy, weak hair that wants to snap. I say skip it and try something else.

My hair hates aloe, if I leave out the aloe it's ok, but aloe in it equals crunchy poofball

It may be the conditioner, the aloe or the honey.

If it is the honey, shampoo should take care of the residue fairly easily. The conditioner may be too heavy and thick for an SMT.

The aloe may have had other things in it or aloe just does not work well for you.

My hair also hated the SMT. Never bothered with it again after one shot. Personally I think its the honey, and if you live in a dry climate the honey residue acts to wick moisture into the air, not the reverse.

It's winter. Both honey and aloe vera gel are humectants, which don't work that well in winter. save your SMT experiments for when temperatures and dew points rise.

you're better off moisturizing with emollients in winter.

My hair detests honey.....it gets very cranky if I use it......

What emollients would be good? Are these just oils, or something else?

I just tried my first SMT. It went ok, not sure I'd do it again, it was fine, but not super silky or soft. I had quite a bit of buildup on my hair from oilings, and my sls-free shampoo does not seem to get all oil out. So I clarified, then did an SMT. Doesn't seem moisturizing enough, though. And I don't wanna add more oils, and get the same buildup problem. Is there anything that adds moisture in a dry, winter climate without oil? I was hoping the SMT was gonna be my solution.

My hair didn't care for SMT as well.
We have endless possibilities for other deep treatments :)

Same, which is why I never bothered doing an SMT after that. Each person's hair is different, trial and error! :)

It could be the aloe. When I first tried aloe it did that to my hair. It reacted better when I just put it on the ends.

For me it's the aloe. Any aloe tends to act up. Winter, I am a dry frizz ball. Summer, it gets ultra sticky. Maybe try coconut oil, if I soak my hair in it, wrap with plastic then dry on low-med for 4 min, my hair tames nicely.

i believe I have lighter hair after leaving smt on overnight. i thought it moisturized well, but was difficult to rinse out its flakes.

I like the feel of my hair as it was so so so soft when I applied my first and only SMT, but it was so fluffy, like too moisturised and fly away, bushy almost.
Havent done it since.

I second this. You have to be careful of humectant overload in the winter.

I find that it depends a lot on the conditioner I use. I need to add something with a little bit of protein and I prefer using something thicker like a hair mask. A "light" CO in SMT will produce the same result for my hair as what you had.
