This issue may have been addressed on here somewhere, but I searched and could not find anything. I have been coloring my hair with henna and indigo for a little over a year now (thanks to you guys!). I have never died my hair using commercial products except for getting highlights a few times when I was younger. I love what the henna and indigo have done for my hair, but my problem now is the color is noticeably uneven--so much so that people comment on it. I color the roots once a month, but the color at the top of my hair seems to fade so fast. My hair stylist suggested using Redken Shades EQ to even out my color. I have read tons of reviews online, and the general consensus is people love this stuff and it seems to make your hair look healthier and shinier. However, I cannot seem to find anything about people using Shades over hair dyed with henna and indigo. Has anyone tried this, and how did it work out? If you haven't tried it, but have a theory about how it would work out that would be appreciated too. It might be helpful to know that I am a CO girl, with the occasional dandruff shampoo when I get some stubborn dandruff that won't go away. Therefore, I know it could not be shampoo that is causing my color to fade. If anyone has any suggestions on techniques to even out my color with henna/indigo, that would be great as well. I thought about changing my routine to touching up roots every 2 weeks instead of monthly. It's just such an ordeal. I also decreased the amount of henna in my mix and increased the amount of indigo, which seems to be helping some. I can get the color to look even when I touch up the roots, but the problem is fading. The length of my hair is not fading, but the top is. I am not sure why this is happening. The only thing I can come up with is the fact that I scrub my scalp, but the conditioner just sits on the ends of my hair, so the ends do not get the agitation that my scalp area gets. I know some of you may be thinking it's just my roots growing in, but the area that fades is probably a couple of inches in length. I also think it may be more the indigo fading than the henna due to the color that's left behind.
Thank you guys so much for all of your help. I have rarely posted on here, but I have read quite a bit over the last couple of years. Your support has been amazing. I only hope that I can have something of value to contribute one day, but unfortunately I am still struggling to learn how to care for my hair.
