View Full Version : I think I just made my first homemade cream rinse...

By mistake! I was aiming for lotion, but for some unknown reason what I thought was a tried and tested recipe backfired on me. The consistency isn't right for lotion, but it's not half bad for a cream rinse, or maybe conditioner, so I'm thinking why not. The recipe is basically coconut oil, water and emulsifying wax, and I had planned on testing coconut oil on my hair anyway.

How interesting, good luck and let us know how you like it!

With lotions you need a preservative, otherwise it's going to go bad quickly. So if it works on your hair it might be good to make small batches rather than a huge batch that's going to be sitting out for a long time.

I wonder if you could throw in some Vitamin E, both for its benefits and as a preservative?

You wouldn't be the first to create something good by mistake so I'd say good luck trying it out :)

CrisDee I think Vitamin E would work fine... I haven't used it in the lotions I've made so far, because I don't have any at the moment, but I know it's used quite commonly in homemade cosmetics :)

Braidy That's what I thought! I mean, why not try it on my hair before I decide to throw it out. With any luck, it works and I don't have to throw anything away, and if not - I haven't lost anything.

So Liave Ekeli - how did this work out?
