View Full Version : Honey Treatment on Baby Fine Light Brown Hair (Pics Included)

I just wanted to share my first honey treatment experience with anyone who also has baby fine hair. Mine is a light brown shade with a few lighter golden areas. Due to the fact that my hair is so fine I CAN NOT color it with chemicals. I have been left with only a few centimeters, more than once in my life due to chemical changes. However, at the same time, I really like to change my very drab light brown hair to something with shine and a little bit of life! When I saw the Honey Thread (thanks so much to all who added and posted this thread), I gave it a shot. Here is my mix, the pros and cons I experienced, and some pictures!

My mix (all approximate):
1.) 8 tbs distilled water
2.) 6-8 tbs honey (I started with the suggested 4x water, but my mix was so runny I just kept adding more honey until it was just very slightly snotty---best way I can describe it sorry for the vulgarity;))
3.) 1 tbs extra virgin olive oil

*I let this mix sit for over 2 hours before application.
*After application I left on my hair (wrapped in plastic wrap and wrapped in a towel) for 2 hours

Pros:
1.) Very light treatment, I didn't notice any extra hair on my floor or in my shower after the treatment.
2.) It really did lighten in a natural way, love the subtle new shade!
3.) Didn't damage my hair.

Cons:
1.) I always make a bit of a mess, and honey is a bit sticky (be prepared)
2.) It took me 2 days to thoroughly get the honey out of my hair (I was using vineager and water rinses only at first, but had to go out a buy an organic shampoo to get it all out. And after shampooing twice right in a row it came out just fine.)

All around love it, thanks again for the honey thread. Also, I would like to add that, it seems to me, that the results of all natural treatments can be surprising. For example, as you can see in these pictures (which I am trying to upload but am having trouble) my hair did lighten up, and a redder color resulted from honey (which is thought to enhance a blond or gold color). And it did add gold, but it also enhanced some of my very subtle red tones. I love strawberry tones so I am thrilled, and am really enjoying letting nature pull out what I didn't know was there. But I do recommend that taking it slow and working with the results so you are not shocked into chemical treatment relapse! Lastly, does anyone know how to upload a picture directly without having to add a link?

The only pics I could get to upload were after shots. Just FYI, the before shots were very brown, I had very few reddish tones in my hair prior to the treatment. It was a very brown color with a few lighter tones. The change, however is subtle, not shocking. They might look very bright because I was standing in my window in the sunlight, and I used a flash, so it is much more subtle in regular light.

I can't see the pictures. I just get a login screen.

Glad to hear you liked the effects, though!

I am glad to read that it all worked out so well for you, even if I cannot see pictures!

More honey than the recommended amount is fine - if it works. Different honeys have different pH levels and allow less water to be used.

You did great!

And you are most welcome!

Thank you for starting this thread about how pleased you are with your results!

OOh I've been looking all over for distilled water as 'm dying to try this too. And from yor desciption we probably have the same hair (babyfine, lightbrown with a slight hint of red, doesn't do wel with chemicals bleach)

I'm so sorry I haven't written in a bit! Thank you so much for all of the kind comments! Please check out my profile I uploaded a whole album of before and after pictures! I still can't upload them to my posts, any ideas?

ETA: Oh, I forgot to mention that the pics in my album are after my second honey+cassia treatment which I left in my hair overnight. The mix was the following:
-50g Cassia (chin length hairs)
-chamomile powder (spoonful or so)
-rhubarb powder (spoonful or so)
-carcuma powder (spoonful or so)
-lemon juice (i understand this will be drying for some, but on my virgin hairs it is fine. i use a lot of oil treatments too.)
-honey (to get you to the consistency you like)
-camelia oil (same as above)
-evoo (same as above)

**Any questions please let me know. I am so excited to now have a profile! My honey album is there and I will continue to update my results. I am going to continue with this well into the summer. I hope to be wanting to change my name to Goldy Locks by the end :)

Great pictures.

If you want more lightening, try leaving out the lemon juice. It lowers the peroxide level of the treatment. Some herbs can skew colour results by adding colours of their own (chamomile can add a gold tone for example) and block the peroxide to a degree from accessing the hair.
