View Full Version : First time henna:er, what can go wrong?

Sitting here with a strong henna-gloss mixture in my hair, I have decided to keep it in for an hour.

As the minutes tick by my heartrate increases, thinking about all the things that can possibly go wrong.
What do i do if it turns out to bright? or streaky? or my hair falls off?

Please calm me by telling me all the things that is good and how do you correct the mistakes that can occur?:)

What colour is your hair now?
I've done henna glosses multiple times and left them in for no less than 90 minutes :) Nothing has come out wrong so far. I started with dark hair, however, so the stain is not schocking or wrong at all.

I am what is Sweden is called Råttblond (rat-blonde:D)
That is a dark-blonde a bit on the colder side.

Think I might rinse it out early not to risk anything, better twice with a good result than once with a bad result:p

I mean I agree ....

It is RED!
Seems like my hair really likes henna, unfortunately I can't call it virgin-hair anymore but you have to make some sacrifices to match the redhead inside and the blonde outside :D

I hope the color is not too shocking for you. My own natural hair color is also sort of dishwater blonde-brownish - not too dissimilar to yours, I think, and I was utterly shocked at the result when I rinsed off after my own first hennaing. It was an almost fluorescent orange - which quieted and darkened over the next couple of days. The oxidized henna-color is lovely on me, though! :D

I did Lush henna first (with dirty blonde hair) and I left mine on for 4 or so hours I think...man, it was orange for a while! Then the second henna really helped. But I didn't mind the orangyness. :)

I much prefer BAQ henna. I should've just started with it....lol

I used Jamila-henna that a friend sent me (had a little mishap with cheap "henna" that turned out to be indigo:p )

My hair is sort of a cinnamon:y red, pictures will come as soon as me and the sun coincides with a camera.
(I really hate living this far north where you only have a few hours of daylight in the winter.)

Well I'm glad you seem to like it! I'm also about to embark on my first dye ever, went with BAQ henna since if I'm going to dye it, I'm going to use the good stuff. I'm also a bit nervous, but I'm so tired of my naturally red hair being so faded, it was so pretty just 2 years ago and I'm only 23, don't really get why it faded so much! Woo nervous, going to have a hard time sleeping.

(I'm also doing this while my boyfriend is gone for the week visiting his parents back east, boy is he going to be surprised when I pick him up at BART haha... >.>)

About ½ conditioner and ½ henna I'd say..
Next time I'll try to measure everything out properly :o

You're hair turned out really beautiful..but I gotta say the "inner redhead" line made me cringe a little. So many stereotypes...

Thank you all! I am so happy with the colour.

I realized after that it was easy to missunderstand that line :D.
Maybe a bit of backstory is needed:
I have had red hair for most of my life, started to dye it at 13-14, when i decided to go off schampoo three years ago
I also stopped dyeing it and since then I get a bit of a surprise when I look in the mirror "Where is my Red hair ".
So, that the inside matches the outside has nothing to do with behaviour just that I look "wrong" compared to my inner picture.:)

I've felt I was born with the wrong colour hair my whole life. I am a natural blonde, like honey gold medium with platinum highlights, it is a shade many strive for, but it doesn't suit me at all, and on my head, with my eye colour and my personality it looks wrong. I need bolder colours to match with the wardrobe I choose. I colour my hair to match what I feel inside too, and it has nothing to do with the "fiery redhead" or "Smart brunette" stereotypes.

My hair has now oxidized and looks great!
The only problem is a bit of dryness but I hope to combat that in the next couple of weeks.

I have naturally dark brown hair (it was more of a med brown when I was young), and have been dyeing it red for about 7 yrs or so.....started henna a few months ago......everybody who knows me says that the red tones suit my coloring much better......so I always say I was born with the "wrong color".....those who know me well and have heard the stereotype say that the "fiery redhead" is a good description of my personality as well though. LOL

I don't go for stereotypes......I have just always loved red hair!

BTW, Bioluminescence, your color turned out beautiful.....
