I know some members here already use and like yogurt but i thought this (http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2005/0255070.html) article might be of interest. It gives detailed information on why and how yogurt conditions hair.

I know for me it made even my chemically fried length feel smooth and soft.

You're very welcome Jojo, i posted that on the old boards and have been meaning to dig it out for new members for a while now....just took a while to find it. I hope the yogurt works for you....it was a god-send for me!

I remember that we talked about this before, and I completely forgot to try it!

Interesting information.

I had heard yogurt masks were good for your skin so I tried it on my hair last week and it was a mess but made my hair feel nice. I used plain yogurt, some honey and a near dead avocado (figured it couldn't do any harm)...left it on for about an hour, I think. It ended up being a weird gray-green color, but it didn't smell too bad and my hair felt better afterward.

That is a good article!
Can you tell us how you used it please?
Did you just use a good quality natural yoghurt or did you add anything to it?
Is it OK to just gloop it on freshly washed hair and leave it for a period of time before rinsing off?
It mentioned cleansing in the article does that mean it could possibly be a one step cleanse/condition???

Sorry for all the questions but this could be so useful to a lot of people!!

I would use it as a pre-poo treatment.

Interesting, I tried it years ago and it made my scalp very itchy, but than I didn’t no you should use the natural one with out colours and flavours in it.

Sound very interesting! I've never tried it either, but I'm definitely going to now. I'll also try to use it as a cleanser, since I'm already co-ing. I like experimenting :)

I use full-fat greek yogurt with honey to dilute my henna gloss instead of conditioner, and my scalp loves it. I have a perpetually itchy scalp, and since most scalp itchiness is yeast-related... yogurt!

I use natural yoghurt with oatmeal and honey for face mask/scrubs, and I luurv it! I've been meaning to try it on my scalp for a while, particularly since I've had a flare up of itchies and this is certainly reinforcing that desire! Must stop and get more...

Word of warning to henna heads...

I used yogurt soaks to help remove henna. After several applications, most of the color was gone.

Hiya Gilly :waving:

You should know you don't need to appologise for asking questions! That's the point of this place ;)

I'm trying to remember the ways i've used it.....at first i mixed yogurt with regular conditioner and that worked great, i've also used it with honey and aloe gel like the SMT except using yogurt instead of conditioner. I've mixed it with conditioning herbs too. All these ways worked well so really you can just play with it. I've not needed to shampoo it out but you do need to rinse VERY thoroughly. One time i missed a small area while rinsing and the next day all i kept smelling was whiffs of what seemed like baby vomit. That was only one time though that i've had any issue.

The yogurt i use it just plain natural yogurt, no flavours or anything added.

HTH :)

I've never tried yogurt on my hair. And I would like to try because it makes sense to me.
Thanks:-)

I was invited to a yogurt tasting/blog party yesterday and took home some greek yogurt with honey and rosewater. I am going to put it in my hair today and see what happens.
I will post later.

Well, this did not make my hair happy at all. Now it is frizzy and full of tangles. Live and learn.

I do like honey and yogurt masks for my face. ;)

Many people in India use curd to condition their hair. I have never tried it before, but I am thinking of trying now...

Well I eventually remembered to buy some yoghurt 50p big tub plain yoghurt smart price from Asda big tub too!

I am going to try this mixed with a little conditioner and honey when I am off, I am working all Christmas, until the day after Boxing day so going to try it then. Although I understand it can fade henna, I will just go over with a gloss if it does!

Will let you know how it goes.....can't wait!

Oh, awesome! I found an article on yogurt too, on naturallycurly.com: http://www.naturallycurly.com/blogs/view_post/general-hair-blogs/1464

I use henna so I don't plan on trying it, but I found it interesting.

I use yogurt on sun burns.. It's very soothing.
On hair, as a yogurt+honey+EVOO was OK, but nothing spectacular

I used half a big tub as a pre conditioner for just 10 mins no henna fade but wow my hair feels silky and looks shiny, only smells of cigarettes as I went to a house party last night, so going to do it again tonight.

Overall I really like the conditioning effect of yoghurt.

Mixed some with honey and trying it at the moment. Hoping it will pull out some unwanted buxus while at it :)

My experience seems good so far. I bought a little container of natural nonfat greek yogurt that I meant to use in a recipe, but I didn't get around to it until it was past the expiration date. So I thought I would use it for conditioning my hair. I mixed it with some old honey- had to microwave the honey for about 30 seconds to get it out of the bottle.

I kept it on for about 15 minutes then rinsed completely. My hair feels soft and smooth.

I really like this treatment. It was easy to rinse out and my hair feels clean and soft. If I could get past the feeling that it is wasteful to use food as a hair treatment, I would wash my hair this way all the time. But anyway, next time I have yogurt that goes past the use-by date I will know what to do with it.
