Stephanie March 7th, 2008, 02:24 PM Unfortunately, we're still working on getting them back to a functioning, READABLE level, but until then, you can at least log in and review old private messages and profiles. Once I'm finished working on these boards, I'll resume efforts to reclaim the archived information.
The Long Hair Community Archives (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com)
You all have no idea how much your patience over the past month is appreciated. Without it, this endeavor would have been far more frustrating, so thank you.

Teacherbear March 7th, 2008, 09:09 PM I can't click anywhere on the archives to get to anything. I am running Firefox. Is that my problem? or are they just not showing up for others?
Stephanie March 7th, 2008, 09:18 PM No, the archives are still mostly broken. I'll start working on fixing them again once I'm finished here. You can still check your old private messages, though, and retrieve your profile information.
Koala Kim March 7th, 2008, 09:25 PM No, the archives are still mostly broken. I'll start working on fixing them again once I'm finished here. You can still check your old private messages, though, and retrieve your profile information.
Whew! Thought I was the only one having a problem getting into my journal. Which I *will* back up as soon as I can access it. :)

Will we eventually be able to access what we've got in our hair journals?
Broken Angel March 8th, 2008, 01:00 PM Thank you for all of your hard work in getting the forum up and running again. But a special Congratulations on your marriage! darkwaves March 8th, 2008, 01:20 PM Thanks so much for all your work on this, Stephanie!
Gaelic Girl March 8th, 2008, 01:37 PM Thank you so much, Stephanie for all your hard work, and for starting this board to begin with!
In the past year not only have my hair, skin, and overall appearance dramatically improved, I have found a number of friends here. You've created a wonderful community, from which there has been immeasurable benefit to literally thousands of people.
TLHC may've begun as a hair board for folks to chat about long hair, but it's become a body of diplomacy and compassion to many. You've made an incredible mark on the world.
Bless you.
Cheers,
Gaelic Girl
dancingbarefoot March 8th, 2008, 02:31 PM Nope, I have the same problem and I don't use FireFox..
The only part of the archives that you'll be able to access at this point are the PMs. The rest are still being rebuilt.
bte March 9th, 2008, 01:30 AM Patience? That's what you need to grow hair!
Very glad to see LHC back, and very grateful indeed for all your hard work. This is the best community on the internet (not that I'm biased!!??) and I want to say a public thank you to everybody who makes that possible.
sibylla March 9th, 2008, 09:32 AM I´m overjoyed!!!
Thank you Stephanie for building up our home again!
Many kisses
Sibylla
happylynngilmer March 9th, 2008, 01:11 PM Thanks for all your hard work Steph! Our home has been remodeled while we were away! i love it!
meliora March 9th, 2008, 08:40 PM Thank you so much, Stephanie! I am very happy that LHC is back up!
Teacherbear March 13th, 2008, 06:08 PM Bump.
If you go to that link and log in, then scroll alllllllll the way down to the bottom and click Archive you can see some of the posts. They are not very easy to peruse, but if you have a word to search for, you can hit Ctrl+F and search for it. AND most of the stuff from a few weeks before the crash are still not accessible, but older stuff is.
Just FYI, the only blogs I could see were the ones that hadn't been updated in a long time, and then only the public journals (no private journals).
Nynaeve March 17th, 2008, 06:04 PM Hello!!!
I can not tell you how happy I am to see the site back up. :cheese:
I have a question about the archived threads.
Are you reposting them all as soon as you get them working or are you just keeping the in an archive for us to view?
I was wondering because I feel strongly about one thread in particular, the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Awareness thread.
I mainly wanted to express how happy I am that the site is back up. :D
And wow... did we have that many smilies before?!?!?!

WritingPrincess March 22nd, 2008, 04:11 PM Thank you so much for all your hard work, and congrats on your marriage and move. I thought all my PMs were lost, so I'm really happy that I'm able to view them.
tiny_teesha March 22nd, 2008, 08:56 PM Oh thankyou teacherbear! I finally got it now!
freznow March 29th, 2008, 07:57 AM I'm not sure if this has been posted in this thread before, but if you have the link to a thread/post on the old LHC and change the 'forum' part at the beginning to 'archive', if it's a public thread it'll open up.
ETA: I stumbled upon the fact that this includes public journals. http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1 (I was typing in random numbers at the end to see which threads I could come up with, and so I thought why not the number 1? And it's Steph's public journal)
ETA2: And if anyone's interested, this http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=78700 is the last thread posted on the old LHC.
Hairstorm March 29th, 2008, 08:12 AM Thanks! :)
Carolyn March 29th, 2008, 08:31 AM That's amazing! Could the mods go in and change the private journals to public and then we could access them again?
Raederle March 29th, 2008, 09:12 AM Carolyn, did you try just typing in archive in your old private journal link? I am able to see the X day challenge thread, which was in the restricted forums. If you have any old download of your journal, the header information is right there.
iris March 29th, 2008, 09:29 AM Seems to me it's just that certain subforums have been imported already, while others haven't. The archive for the herbal subforum doesn't work yet, for instance, even though it's public. It's not that all the public things are working and the private things are not.
When I try to access my private journal, it tells me I'm not logged in (won't allow me to log in, either).
But it's very encouraging that things are being imported! :rockerdud
ETA: I was wrong - some threads in the herbal hairforum can be accessed. Haven't figured out yet what the system is ;-)
Iris
Carolyn March 29th, 2008, 09:42 AM Carolyn, did you try just typing in archive in your old private journal link? I am able to see the X day challenge thread, which was in the restricted forums. If you have any old download of your journal, the header information is right there.I thought I had downloaded my old journal but I hadn't "saved it" so it didn't stay. I typed in my old user number and my new one and that didn't work. My old user number brings up and old thread and my new one gets me a message that says "no thread specified". I don't have any saved old journal entries. Dummy me!
peachy.pudding March 29th, 2008, 12:00 PM This link is perfect - http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/
iris March 29th, 2008, 12:17 PM Not perfect yet! That view of the archives links to the henna removal thread on this page (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/f-25-p-14.html), but the link gives the 'database error'.
Patience, patience...
Iris
freznow March 29th, 2008, 01:46 PM http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=62046
I found the 'Links to threads of interest' (you'll have to change the links just as with any other old thread)
But I rather wanted to find the list of hairtoy suppliers - I had thought it was in the 'Links to threads of interest' because wasn't it once a sticky? - anyone know what that thread was called, or have it bookmarked?
Raederle March 29th, 2008, 09:20 PM Wasn't that a sticky in the Conventional Products & Hair Accessories? They don't seem to be available now, though.
Siamese March 29th, 2008, 10:49 PM I can see the listed titles of public journals - including my own - but can't get any further than that without an error report. How frustrating!
happylynngilmer March 31st, 2008, 03:14 PM That's amazing! Could the mods go in and change the private journals to public and then we could access them again?
Is the reason mine isnt on that list b/c it was private? (or at least I think it was private? too long ago for me to remember that stuff LOL)
Rae~ March 31st, 2008, 04:26 PM That's amazing! Could the mods go in and change the private journals to public and then we could access them again?
Carolyn, I imagine that since the old forum software isn't currently running (as in, the threads that ARE viewable, are viewable only in a text form rather than editable and with the full forum infrastructure around them), perhaps the ability to do something like that doesn't currently exist? Fingers crossed for private journal access again in the future, though.
Is the reason mine isnt on that list b/c it was private? (or at least I think it was private? too long ago for me to remember that stuff LOL)
Lynn, mine was private and I did find the title on a list somewhere in that archive, although I couldn't access it....
ReadingRenee March 31st, 2008, 05:07 PM mine was public but although it was on the list I couldn't access it. :( I could access some other peoples though so there is hope! :)
UrbanEast April 6th, 2008, 08:15 AM Steph,
Thanks for making the archive work!
There's one bug:the buttons below the Google site search let you choose between searching the "Web" and "forums.longhaircommunity.com." So clicking the second button will execute the search on the NEW forum instead of the archives.
Could you change that second button to "archive.longhaircommunity.com"?
Thanks again!
curls2grow April 6th, 2008, 09:27 AM Can anyone tell me if the private journals are being worked on, to be available in Archive?
Siamese April 9th, 2008, 04:26 AM Great to see the Private Journals are now there along with Public Journals in the archives. Something must be on the move.
I have a query about the Public Journals though and hoping a mod can help me.
I've been working my way through the Public Journals for the past week and documenting which ones are available and which ones are not. It's still unstable though. Sometimes it permits access and other days it doesn't so it's slow going. Right now, I'm locked out from journal 950 onward but expect that to change again and it does, from moment to moment.
In the meantime...
Public Journals 1-250 displayed only 4 journal titles that were not available (error message).
251-500 displayed only 11 journal titles that were not available (error message).
501-750 displayed only 9 journal titles that were not available (error message).
751- 950 displayed only 22 journal titles that were not available (error message).
I really do appreciate we are all busy and this is not a priority per se, however I'm still feeling like I'm limbo - as though someone walked away with the key to a room that my history was stored in, and I have no idea what direction they headed in with it. I need a compass and that key back!
Would it help to know which of the Public Journals are not currently accessible in the list of 950 I've collated thus far? At this time there are 46 journals with error messages out of the 950 I've opened. Of course, mine is one of them.
Any further information would be most gratefully received.
curls2grow April 9th, 2008, 05:32 AM Great to see the Private Journals are now there along with Public Journals in the archives.
Really? Can someone please help me out by telling me how to access the Private Journals in Archive then, because when I click Archive at the bottom of the new LHC webpage, or if I click the link the in first post of this thread, I do not see Private Journals. I would love to know how to see mine! :D
Raederle April 9th, 2008, 08:18 AM The archives seem to work differently for different people. I'm able to read all the archive links I've posted, but have had other members say the links don't work for them. As regards the private journals, for me, none of the private boards show when I access the archives, whether I log in or not. As far as I know, even those who are able to see the Private Journal forum, are not able to see individual journals.

yea, me either. :/
Jaime April 9th, 2008, 09:34 AM Could it be related to the size of the journal? Mine is #1057, and I haven't been able to access it yet, but most of the ones that do open up appear to have a small number of posts.

The same is true for the threads in the regular forums - the henna removal thread, for instance, and the honey thread, both huge threads, both give the database error, while the threads right before and after them do work.
I guess it'll get fixed when and if it gets fixed . There has been no reply to questions in this thread, not from mods or from admins, - I read that as 'it'll get fixed when and if it gets fixed'. It's probably a lot of work to fix it.
Iris
Tresses April 9th, 2008, 10:15 AM I can't access PMs or the private boards at all. I tried to sign in, got to the screen that said, "Thank you for logging in Tresses," and then got bumped back to the index page as a guest.
Anybody else not able to log in? Or, am I doing something wrong?
Moonstone April 9th, 2008, 10:20 AM Tresses, I have the same problem logging in, it's not just you. Also, I can't get to any of the boards, but it sounds like some people are able to? I wonder if it has something to do with the browser I'm using (safari)?

Ah, but I can access both honey threads, which I've downloaded as text files and emailed to someone here. See what I mean about the archives being available to people in different ways??
I'd be happy to try for the henna removal thread. If you've got the old link, just post it here. If not, which forum was it in?

Thanks, Moonstone. At least we're not alone. :) On second thought...:( I can only access two public boards: Site Happenings and Product Reviews (and only Styling Products under that). OH, and Off Topic, but none of its subforums. I'm using IE7.

Weirdness! The henna removal thread should be here:

Raederle April 9th, 2008, 10:55 AM Sorry, iris, this (http://boardreader.com/t/Recipes_46755/anyone_here_removed_their_henna_71635.html) is the best I could do. And it only has the one page, and just the first bits of the post. Of course, I can get to the threads both before and after that one. Go figure.

Weird eh? There was a time when two of the pages were still in google cache, but they're gone there, now, too. Thanks for trying though! :waltz:

No reply from mods because they don't know anything, no reply from admins because they are too busy fixing it? Seriously, I think Steph is the only person who can do this, and I know she's had some real life stuff to deal with recently. Like Iris says, it'll happen whenever it happens. It is definitely a major goal/priority, but I can't even imagine the technical issues involved.
Druid of Alba April 9th, 2008, 07:28 PM I'm new, could somebody tell me what hapeened? From what I know, there was an old site, it got messed up, and now this is the new site, and we are trying to get all of the old archives transfered over... is this right? Thanks!

Yes, in a nutshell, this is it. Our username and postcounts were transferred, but everything that was written before the Big Crash is now in the archives, and only partly accessible :)
Oh, and we had to live without LHC for almost a month :thud:

Thank you physicschick, it is nice to hear from a mod, doesn't matter that it's 'I don't know, either' :D. It does feel good to hear that it's a major goal.
About the technical issues involved, and to offer some perspective - the email in the place where I work crashed mid March, similar type of problem, 'corrupt database', and they've been working on restoring the data for a month now. The data involved there consists of the email of 2000 people for only 4 days; they're working on it with three people, around the clock, and almost a month later they still haven't fixed it.
So, I don't know what the restoring process involves exactly, either (in my scariest dreams it involves fixing stuff by hand), but I can say that if three people who get paid to do this, can't fix within a month an amount of data that is probably less than all of LHC, that it would be way off the mark to be impatient about LHC data restoration, which is done by volunteers from the kindness of their hearts.

I'm having this same problem - it was actually something I was experiencing even before the new site came up - I'm clueless as to why:shrug:.
Perhaps I'm just not using the search right on this new site, but I went back to the old one to find out more about the SMT and I can't get in. Can anyone who can please post a link for me on the SMT:flower:.
khyricat April 10th, 2008, 09:00 AM I can't get to my journal either.. 1102 khyricat's glidings, but I know it was fairly large for the less than a year it existed (as my current one shows.)

physicschick April 10th, 2008, 10:32 AM Iris, we had an e-mail outage on my campus last week, and I was so afraid that it was going to be like your e-mail problems! I was kicking myself for not keeping local copies of files and messages. However, they fixed it in 2 days, thank goodness.
Thanks for the perspective on database repair issues. Since I don't work with databases, they are mysterious and scary to me.
happylynngilmer April 11th, 2008, 09:15 AM *light bulb moment*
Ah, the reason the review board isn't frequented much must be because so many people *can't get to it!* On the old LHC it was as fast a moving board as the friendship board. Now I understand. Carry on.
daizyduke April 16th, 2008, 10:36 AM I am not able to search the archives. It won't let me login. Thanks.
Dianyla April 17th, 2008, 02:44 AM The archived forums are now available. :)

Same problem here. Oh boy, do I regret now ever making my journal private...
Siamese April 17th, 2008, 02:59 AM Oh my goodness Dianyla... I could cry. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for your special message just now and bringing home my journal to me. You have made my day in more ways than you will ever know. :flower: I'll be transferring it to a blog and continuing on with it. My words are so precious to me.
My heartfelt appreciation to all who have been involved and contributed in so many ways. :heartbeat
Dianyla April 17th, 2008, 03:03 AM For anyone having login problems, any time you switch between the active forums and the archive forums you must to intentionally "Log Out" of one site before you can login to the other.
We're looking into the possibility of integrating the two better in the future, but for now that's the best we can do.
Dianyla April 17th, 2008, 03:39 AM Another thing I forgot to mention was this:
Keep in mind that any saved links (e.g. in posts or signatures, etc.) that you encounter on the archive forums are going to point to url starting with "forums.longhaircommunity.com". Every time this happens, you need to click on the web address in your web browser and replace the word forums with archive every time. Once you do that, the link will work.
Calista April 17th, 2008, 04:37 AM Thanks Dianyla! :cheer:
aisling April 17th, 2008, 04:51 AM Edited: need to learn to read the whole thread.
DavidN April 17th, 2008, 04:54 AM What wonderful news, Dianyla, you and all the admins rock!:cheer: I was just over in the archived forums, re-living some memories from my old photojournal, and everything is intact, alive and well!:joy:
iris April 17th, 2008, 05:03 AM The archived forums are now available. :)

HplyEvrAftr April 17th, 2008, 05:04 AM I tried to go into the Archives and it makes me log in again, and then tells me I have used an invalid user/password?? I am a new member, could that be why??
Thanks in advance :)
Juliet's Silk April 17th, 2008, 05:04 AM Oh my God I have my journal back! *screams*
Sweet little journal come to meee! :run:
I think I'll go and copy everything over to my blog, yes I will!
Thank you thank you thank you!
talullah April 17th, 2008, 05:11 AM Oh my god, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I am so happy that I am nearly in tears. I've been kicking myself for not having saved my journal recently, and I really thought it was gone for good. I cannot express to you all how thankful I am that you were able to recover our journals.
THANK YOU!!!
Seriously, I might cry.
aisling April 17th, 2008, 05:45 AM I copied my old journal text into Word, 578 pages :) I don't think I'll copy it into my new blog, way too much text.
Thank you for doing this, I'm very happy I was able to download both my journal and my photo journal.
camara April 17th, 2008, 06:35 AM Everyone who helped in achieving this: Thank you so much! I am so happy I could save my old journal.
lora410 April 17th, 2008, 06:49 AM how did you guys get your old LHC journals? I went into the archive-public journals, but non eof them open up.
khyricat April 17th, 2008, 06:49 AM yeehaw! mine works now..
aisling April 17th, 2008, 06:50 AM how did you guys get your old LHC journals? I went into the archive-public journals, but non eof them open up.
Read what Dianyla wrote above, you have to log out of new LHC first.
lora410 April 17th, 2008, 07:02 AM Read what Dianyla wrote above, you have to log out of new LHC first.
ohhhhhhhhhh thanks :flower:
pgw April 17th, 2008, 07:51 AM Could someone tell me if there is an easy way to down load my old journal or do I have to copy and paste?
physicschick April 17th, 2008, 08:02 AM Pgw, there is a menu button at the top of the first post. Click "Thread Tools" then "Download thread." That will download it as a text file.
pgw April 17th, 2008, 08:04 AM Thank you!
wintersun99 April 17th, 2008, 08:36 AM The archived forums are now available. :):cheese:
Forgive the obvious question - but how do you access the archives?
ETA: nevermind - found it... :)
icydove April 17th, 2008, 08:42 AM Sorry if I've missed the response, but are the archives only going to be available for a limited time or will they be permanently available?
I'm very excited about being able to use the search feature again!
physicschick April 17th, 2008, 08:58 AM I think the idea is that they will be permanently available. We hope that in the future they will be better integrated with the current site (so that we don't have to do the logout/login/logout thing). However, if there's some information you've been dying to access, it's always safest to download it now just in case there are future database glitches.
Hairstorm April 17th, 2008, 09:36 AM Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
lora410 April 17th, 2008, 09:38 AM It worked perfectly thanks everyone and Stephanie :flowers:
Xanthippe April 17th, 2008, 09:55 AM You all rock! It worked great after I logged out and changed the links. Thank you so much! :)
Delila April 17th, 2008, 10:09 AM I just thought I'd mention that what I did, instead of using the 'download this thread' feature', I saved each page of the thread, using the File:Save Page As option on my browser, and saved them as 'web page complete'. I just made up file names listing the page number, ending in .htm the way the software seemed to prefer.
I've wound up with a) a group of documents, named as I selected, and b) a group of folders, apparently containing other information concerning the files. To access, I click the document.
I just mention it, because I found the 'text only' option pretty hard to read.
happylynngilmer April 17th, 2008, 10:23 AM Hm. Yep, I'm pretty sure my journal was private now because I looked until page 15 of public journals and did not find it. I wrote it in several times a week, so I know it wouldn't be farther down the list.
Anyword on when private journals will be available?
ETA: I got this great idea-I was going to find an old post containing my old siggie to find the link to my old journal (lots of "old"s in there) and then change the "forum" to "archived" in the link to access it. However, the archived forums just decided they don't like my mead and potatos offering-It won't let me log in! I tried five times :{
nappywomyn April 17th, 2008, 10:27 AM YAY! YAY! YAY!!! Thank ya'll, ever so much!!!

They are. (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36) You'll just have to log in to see them. (Log out here first).

I copied the text into a Word document, very easy to read and looks rather neat. My journal was way too long (~50 pages) for saving each page individually.
Euphony April 17th, 2008, 12:07 PM The archived forums are now available. :)
:cheese:
<SQUEEEE> I just found the hair toy thread!! Thank you all so much for making the archives accessible. Do you know when/if we'll be able to log in so we can access all the archives?
Euphony April 17th, 2008, 12:11 PM For anyone having login problems, any time you switch between the active forums and the archive forums you must to intentionally "Log Out" of one site before you can login to the other.
We're looking into the possibility of integrating the two better in the future, but for now that's the best we can do.
Oh hehehehe I guess I should've read more before I posted. Works like a charm!
Tabitha April 17th, 2008, 02:22 PM Thank you SO much for doing this :cheese:

and thank you, Delilah, because this means I will (I hope) be able to keep my photo journal intact with pictures rather than just text with photolinks.

Here is the link to your journal in the archives: http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=59790&highlight=At+Long+Last
remember to log out of here, the new LHC, before you try to log into the archives

You can set your preferences to increase the number of posts per page. I keep mine set at forty, the maximum, just to minimize the amount of clicking I need to do. Set like that, my old journal was only eight pages long. Big pages, but still, easier to view than otherwise.
CurlyNinja April 17th, 2008, 05:12 PM Sorry if this has already been answered, but is there any way for members of the LHC who joined on the new site to log in and search the old site? When I try to my access is denied. I'd just really like to look for all the great information everyone here has been referring to.
kimberlily April 17th, 2008, 05:26 PM Oh good! I just downloaded mine as a txt document. Glad to have it back :D Thanks Steph!

That hasn't been asked yet, so I'm glad you brought it up. Currently we have registrations disabled at the archive site. Even if you did register, you would forever remain at "newbie" status and you would never get access to the full site with restricted areas because your post count over there will never increase.
(Side note: A few folks whose post counts had already made 100 posts but were waiting for their 60 day time criteria to be met have been promoted and now have full access over there.)
We are currently investigating the feasibility of importing the old information and merging the two forum databases back together. In the meantime, the two sites will always be out of sync with regards to accounts and levels of access.
We will post more information as it becomes available, but right now I don't have a good answer for you.

WritingPrincess April 17th, 2008, 08:49 PM I think I have a unique problem. When we still had the Private sections, the moderators had disabled me from being able to see them, as per WritingMum's request. Now that that restriction is gone, my mother has looked at the sections that used to be private and said that they're fine. Is there any way to enable my being able to see private journals (and such) on the archives? There is a journal that I want to retrieve for a friend of mine who doesn't come around as often.
Dianyla April 17th, 2008, 08:53 PM I think I have a unique problem.

Ok, I stand corrected...it wouldn't let me use any search option. Went through all the journals twice from July onward trying to find mine visually last night, no luck. This morning I started again, using the browser's "find" option and finally found it!

meliora April 18th, 2008, 10:40 AM I had a private journal on the old LHC, and now I cannot access it :( The archive opens up fine, but all I see is everything that I would when I am not logged on. So I cannot view private journals or photo boards. I tried to log in, but I cannot. The page says "Thank you for logging in, Meliora", and when the browser redirects me, I am not logged on. I am not sure what's going on.

That happened to me many times, and didn't seem to be related to whether I had logged off here or not.
What I finally did was to open the archive it and bookmark it. Then, I logged out of here AND closed the browser just to be sure (as well as the browser with the archived site).
Then I opened a browser and used the bookmark to access the archived site and that worked.

Gemma April 19th, 2008, 05:47 AM I just wanted to say thank you so much for working to retrieve the archived forums! :)
ilovemycop April 19th, 2008, 09:01 AM Yea! thanks for bringing back the Archives,Steph.I just realised they were here again :)
TessieAnn April 19th, 2008, 09:35 AM Thanks for restoring the archives, Mods!
Unfortunately, I can't get in to the private area on old LHC. I've tried the log-out from the new, log-in to the old process. Problem is, the site simply will not accept my password. It tells me time and time again that I haven't entered it right. I did the routine for a lost password, even though I knew I was entering the correct one. Neither the old nor the one emailed by the server will let me enter.
Plus, the password to which I changed, during my first attempt, works on the new LHC and the one sent me by the server after that doesn't! Are you thoroughly confused now?
So I enter my username. Then I enter my password. Then I hit Log In and the password disappears from the little box. Then I get the message that I'm invalid. I've tried this with both Firefox and IE. Maybe I need to clear the cache? Clear some cookies? Eat a few chocolate chip cookies? Pray to the cybergoddess? (Although, the screen tells me that cookies have been cleared.)
Any ideas? Thanks!
curls2grow April 20th, 2008, 08:43 AM OK, now that I understand how to change the date on posting to my new blog, I am just wondering what most people have done to move their archived journal over to their new blog.
* Are you moving your entries from your archived journal into your new blog, or are you just keeping a downloaded copy on your PC?
* If you are moving your old journal entries into your new blog, are you doing that for each single entry, or are you moving them over in a bulk entry? I've noticed the space limitation per entry, so wondering what the best approach is.
* Started my blog but want to delete the first entries since I goofed on them. I deleted them myself, but there is still the entry name and that I deleted it there. If I contact a mod, can they blow away my blog goofs?
Raederle April 20th, 2008, 09:25 AM I just linked the old journal in the blog description. Inserting entry by entry was just too cumbersome. My thinking is that I'm likely the only one interested in the older stuff, anyway.
mommy2one05 April 20th, 2008, 03:14 PM are the archices only for older members? Cause when I went to login in told me my username and password were not valid but then when I logged back in on the regular boards I had no problems.

Only you (and the mods) should be able to see that you have deleted entries. Other members can't see it, so don't worry about it.

The archives and the current boards are not very well integrated yet, so this may be the case at the moment. I will check. In the future, we hope that the two will work together more seamlessly.
ETA: Actually, what do you need to log in and look at? All the publically accessible features should be available without logging in, and you haven't been here long enough to have private board access yet.

Do you see "Public Journals" there? You ought to be able to access all those.
wintersun99 April 21st, 2008, 09:43 AM I'm actually having trouble too - originally, I could log out here and log in there and access all of the information including the "private/members only" areas, but now I cannot access even the main boards. If I go to the forums page, all of the topics are available, but once I click on them I receive an error message. I assume there must be something "up" with the database? I can't really think of anything I need over there, I've already grabbed my journal history (out of private journal section) but it is nice to access for old information. Any ideas?
Miss Murphy April 21st, 2008, 10:39 AM Wintersun, I had the same problem today, too, but no problem before that. I thought it was just me...
ilovemycop April 21st, 2008, 11:46 AM I tried logging in there yesterday but no avail.I went back today and there I was-logged in just fine.
but-now the archive boards are down.
wintersun99 April 21st, 2008, 12:27 PM Ok - well at least it wasn't just me, thought I got "voted off the island" - but ya, I can log on fine too, just nothing afterwards, so I guess it is a database problem. Cheers
Dianyla April 21st, 2008, 05:02 PM Looks like the archive database got corrupted again over the weekend. Sneaky database, waiting until I was conveniently out of town! I repaired it again today and the archives are once again available. :)
FYI - this may be an ongoing issue that keeps coming back. We have to keep limping the archives along until we can get all of the archive data merged into the main system. Please bear with us. :flower:

Mmmhmmm! Although the unseasonably cold weather certainly put a crimp in the festivities...not so much hanging out and drinking and talking til all hours[1]...just early to bed to keep warm. :brrr:

That's because there is a problem with database. When it gets fixed, it'll be up again. Unfortunately, there's no good permanent fix for what ails it, so it need periodic fixing.
Also, I can never look at any blogs. It will just send me to a page that says I don't have permission to post in that area.

Darian Moone April 24th, 2008, 11:43 PM I'd like to request that my private journal on the old board be deleted. The title was Darian Moone's Hair Journal.
I was able to access it today and downloaded it, so all that's needed is a deletion.
I have to make a horrid confession now...I started deleting posts on it myself...THEN I noticed on this thread that I wasn't supposed to do anything like that on the old boards. :o Begging forgiveness!!!!! :cheese: All I can say *uses her most pitiful voice* is that I was reading a different thread than this one and didn't mean to mess up anything. (Please don't let me be the one to "break the board"! )
I'm sorry if I messed anything up. Thanks in advance for deleting my old private journal. :flower:
Adding another request if it's possible: Could my old photo journal be removed also? It was called Darian Moone's Photo Journal. I was able to access it today also, but I SWEAR I didn't do a thing to it.

They're both gone now. :)
Darian Moone April 24th, 2008, 11:56 PM Thanks Dianyla! Talk about speedy!!!!! :flowers:
curls2grow April 25th, 2008, 05:50 AM I am concerned that I am missing something -- would anyone be willing to share or PM me re: why so many people are deleting their old private journals? I linked to mine in my signature (and I did already download it with a copy on my PC). My old journal is too big to download and copy into my new blog here.
suicides_eve May 1st, 2008, 11:21 AM yea they're back up! The last time i check there weren't tee-hee .
Wow my hair has grown
suicides_eve May 1st, 2008, 11:26 AM oh crap wait- when i log in i can't see anything but if i sign out everything shows up. how can i delete something off there?

All of the forums on the Archive site are closed for editing and posting. If you really truly need something over there deleted, contact a Moderator. We may (or may not) delete it for you. :)
UrbanEast May 3rd, 2008, 12:30 PM Do you need to have 100 posts to access the photo journals in the archives also? If so, I'm hoping posts in the new forum count towards that number, since I'd really like to access some of the updo tutorials.
Thanks!
UrbanEast May 4th, 2008, 01:06 PM And Steph, thanks so much for getting the archives back up. You've saved a treasure trove of information--especially the tutorials.
curls2grow May 4th, 2008, 01:33 PM I'm linking to my old journal in my signature, and when I click on the link, it's not letting me in. Will linking that way not work? I made sure that I was signed out of the new LHC when I clicked the link and it still didn't work. Just trying to see if it works that way, or if I should remove that link altogether. I've already downloaded my old journal.
Raederle May 5th, 2008, 05:15 PM I'm able to see your journal, as long as I sign out here. But, the archives seem to work differently for different people, and even from moment to moment.

I thought I read that if you did not have 100posts/60+ days and access to the private boards BEFORE the site crashed, you won't have it now (over there) as the system will not sinc up the access you've gained. Please correct me if I'm wrong...
wintersun99 May 5th, 2008, 05:59 PM That hasn't been asked yet, so I'm glad you brought it up.
We will post more information as it becomes available, but right now I don't have a good answer for you.
yes, here it is - I knew I saw this somewhere on this thread...

This got answered on the Site Support board:
Thanks, JG. I'm just wondering if having 100 quality posts here on the new board will count when it comes to photo thread access on the old board?
The answer is....yes!
Hope that helps! :flower:

You're correct - you won't have the upgraded access automatically. However, an admin can go manually fix your account in the archives to match your current level of access here on the main site.
:)
n3m3sis42 May 6th, 2008, 03:45 AM If this isn't appropriate to ask on this thread, please let me know.
I'm wondering if one of you old-LHC members would be willing to do me a favor. I found the old Chagrin Valley Soap and Shampoo Bar thread in the archive a week or two ago and was slowly reading through it. I apparently failed to add it to my favorites, and the power went out the other day and I lost what I had open.
The problem is that since I wasn't a member of the old LHC, I didn't find this thread using the search function, but by reading through 100+ pages of archived threads. I don't have the ability to search the "old" forums, and I am wondering if someone who *does* have that ability would be willing to post a link to the thread I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance!
Edited to add: I'm pretty sure from reading through this thread that I can't get an account on the archived forum if I wasn't already a member at the time it crashed, so my question is based on that assumption. If I am incorrect and there is some way for me to gain "search" access on the old board, please let me know. :)
Just_Isabel May 6th, 2008, 04:45 AM I found: Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars and Soap (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=21800&highlight=Chagrin+Valley) in Recipes, Henna, and Herbal Haircare with over 3k posts. Is that the one you were looking for?
HTH!
n3m3sis42 May 6th, 2008, 04:53 AM Just_Isabel, thank you so much! That's the one I was looking for. :)
Just_Isabel May 6th, 2008, 04:56 AM Welcome. :)
Oh, I just thought of something that might work for you: have you tried to google using "site:archive.longhaircommunity.com *insert what you want to search for*"?
I haven't used google to search for threads here because I don't need to, but it could work for someone who can't log in to the archives.
Iylivarae May 6th, 2008, 10:54 AM I'm having troubles with logging in the old forums. It seems that my password is correct, I also see the "thank you for logging in, Iylivarae"-site... but if it redirects me back to the forums, I'm logged out again... and I just can't get into my account...
Is there a solution to that problem?

This might be a bit redundant, but have you logged out here?
I usually work with a different browser window - I'm logged in to the current LHC in one window, and in the archives in the other.

Oh, that's so awesome! It worked! Thanks a lot. :)
rhosyn_du May 9th, 2008, 03:34 AM Does anyone know why I might be having trouble logging in to the archived forums? I type in my log in and password, it does the little "thank you for logging in, rhosyn_du" thing, I get redirected, and...I'm still not logged in.

So, did you do as Miss Murphy adviced above?

Wow. I'm a complete space-case tonight. I somehow missed her comment, despite having read both the preceding and following comments in the thread. And, yes, that was the problem. Sorry about cluttering things up with a stupid question.
