View Full Version : Ficcare size for peacock/waterfall twist?

So I'm thinking of getting another Ficcare when the sale starts. I currently have 3 larges (silver primavera, blue jean and silvery dark blonde) and those are perfect for buns/log rolls etc. but I'd like another smaller one to do like a French twist with the ends hanging out (like my avatar pic), I think this is called a peacock/waterfall twist but I'm not sure.

I can kind of do it with a large if I twist it round several times (kind of making a mini-bun) then clip it but it's not as easy to get comfortable and I have to do it just right or the clip will lean to one side and pull and it eats up a lot of the length. With a large it needs to grab 3 twists worth of hair (up, down, up again) and some scalp hair.

So, to get to the point, would I need a small or a medium? It would only need to grab one twist of hair and a little scalp hair so I was thinking maybe a small? My hair is almost exactly 4" thick normally but twisted it seems to compact down to about 3 3/4".

I know they have a guide on their site but I don't entirely trust it.

Thanks :)

ETA: Just to clarify, I'm talking about Maximas, not the other styles.

I think a medium is more suitable. The smalls are TINY.

For experimentation purposes I just tried a peacock twist with my large Ficcare and it's holding very nicely and is very comfy. My hair isn't as long as yours but it is the same thickness and I don't have curls. I twisted my hair UP and then clipped. If your large is too large, then just go down to medium. Akurah is right - the smalls are tiny tiny tiny!

My mom uses a medium Maximas to clip up her braid (gets some scalp hair and clips the braid once) and it fits her well, but with some room to grab more hair. She has about the same ponytail circumference as me (almost 3 inches but not quite). I would think that a small might be too small since you are almost 4 inches and the medium works for someone with 3 inches. So, I say go for the medium for the twist.

Medium all the way.
The smalls are really tiny!
At first I thought your question was aimed at whether to buy a medium or a large - I myself can do (unstable) twists with a large, depending on the way I make it, with a medium, it's more comfortable. But I always thought that with a higher thickness you could do it with a large as well.
So, if your decision is between the small and the medium, take the medium. There is a much bigger difference between a small and a medium than between a medium and a large.

Indeed, medium.
The small is very tiny (but sooo cute :)) It is perfect for halfups, as an iii I just have to be cautious not to take too much hair or the little fella won't hold.
I use my medium honey marble for my waterfall halfup

I love that style, I plan on doing it a lot this summer. I'll be buying a medium flexi to do it though. I had thought about doing it with a Ficcare and can do it with a large, but of course it doesn't hold quite right. But I got to thinking about it, there's a high possibility of some hair still slipping out the side since it's only going to be twisted up, not put into a bun of any sort and I was thinking it might get crooked easier. Since I want this for all day no fuss wear, I figured a flexi might be a better choice and far less expensive.

Just thought I'd drop my $.02

For what it's worth, my ponytail ranges from 3.5"-3.75", and I find that a medium Ficcare works quite well for the style you're talking about.

Thanks everyone,

I'm glad to see that there is such a consensus about which one to get. I'll definitely go with the medium then. I've never seen a small or medium IRL so it's hard to judge how much hair they'll hold.

I can kind of do it with a large but the ends are together and it's just too loose. It won't fall out but it won't be comfortable either. My hair is quite thick but it does compact a lot. I've actually had several hairdressers tell me it was the thickest hair they've ever seen but I'm not sure if it was just the curly/waviness that makes it look even thicker.

My larges are absolutely perfect for a bun and I rarely have any pulling at all so I'm just looking for that same level of comfort for this style. It's very helpful to know that the smalls are so tiny as I wasn't sure how they compared to each other. So medium it is.

Thanks again :)

Late but I concur with everyone else. I have about the same amount of hair as you except a few inches shorter, which doesn't make much difference for the styles in question. Medium is perfect for them.

Large can go over my whole bun (for which length does matter to the size of the whole bun) but for anything that only has to hold "some of the hair" medium is awesome.

A small is perfect for my fine, thin hair. I would go with a medium for yours.
