View Full Version : SMT -- What did I do wrong?
Mary <>< May 4th, 2008, 04:55 AM I did an SMT last night, and although my hair feels very soft & hydrated, I have a gajillion little white gunky chunky things in my hair! shudder: I used an ACV rinse and got *most* of it out, but now I am curious what I did wrong.
* 4 T Conditioner (Suave Tangerine)
*1 T Honey (Locally Harvested)
*1 T AVG (LOTD)
I do not have a microwave, so I heated some water on the stove & poured it into a bowl. I then floated a container with the SMT in it to warm it. I would say it got very warm, but not hot, & I was sure to mix thouroughly.
So, what went wrong? Any ideas? Also, any suggestions to get the rest of it out? TIA!
Hypnotica May 4th, 2008, 06:11 AM Some conditioners curd when being warmed up. You may try another conditioner.
In the archived forum, there is a list with cone-free conditioners for doing SMT that does not curd, I belive....somewere.

I think the list is right on the SMT recipe page.

justgreen May 4th, 2008, 08:37 AM Yep, it's the conditioner, but unless you have problems with the greasies after your hair dries, don't sweat it. My hair loves the extra little explosions! The conditioner I use now doesn't curd, Nature's Gate Original Herbal.
Mary <>< May 4th, 2008, 05:02 PM Thanks, I'll try one of the other conditioners next time. These chunks were in there after my hair dried, so there was no way I could bear with it until the next wash, I had to ACV rinse immediately. Maybe by my next wash they will all be gone, but my hair sure is soft right now! :D
Katze May 5th, 2008, 08:25 AM I don't get why you'd use ACV *after* doing an SMT. :confused:
For me, ACV is a way to deep clean my hair, while SMT moisturizes it, and I prefer to keep that deep moisturizing effect from the SMT rather than remove it with the acidity of vinegar. Usually, I use ACV alone when my scalp is acting up, but only once a month or so.
While that is probably not the problem it really popped out in your message...it doesn't seem like the best way to get the full benefits of doing an SMT.
