View Full Version : Oil and water progress report
jera May 1st, 2008, 08:44 AM Hi,
I finally did my first oiling on dampened hair. I do agree with those of you on the boards who swear by this method. For me, the results were definitely superior to applying oil directly onto my dry hair.
Thank you. :cheese:I'm happy with the result of this treatment. Who knows, in time my hair may improve enough for me to post a progress picture.
yogachic May 1st, 2008, 08:47 AM Did you leave it in overnight, or a couple hours, or apply only a light oiling and used it as a leave in. I use coconut oil as a leave in.
Loviatar May 1st, 2008, 10:43 AM I spray coconut or EVO oil mixed with water in a mister bottle directly on to my hair. I find it works much better on wet/damp hair than if I spray it on dry.
I also swear by a smidge of monoi oil on damp ends. The scent lasts for days even after another wash, and the softness is great - unlike when I use monoi in dry ends. Then I get oily hair and crunchies.
jera May 1st, 2008, 01:44 PM I did it as an ocernight treatment, but started with dampened hair instead of dry
using extra virgin oil. Though I've heard coconut oil is superior, I still have a lot of ojon resorative which is solid palm nut oil you melt in your hand, much like coconut oil I imagine:confused:
If anyone reading this has used both coconut oil and ojon restorative, but prefers coconut oil please tell me why. The ojon I bought was expensive, and when I went to price coconut oil after reading these boards, I saw it at Puritan's Pride where I buy my vitamins, but it was kinda pricey. So.... since I still had a lot of the ojon, I decided to alternate between ojon and olive oil until the ojon runs out. :demon:
Unless someone convinces me otherwise.

Coconut oil can make your hair greasy if you use to much, and its very easy to use to much.I think someone said it contains protein and to much protein be a bad thing(which is prob why my hair got snarly after awhile using just coconut oil) so I alternate with coconut, almond, olive and I always love Shea butter. You can get extra virgin coconut in the vitamin section at Walmart for $10 or coconut in the cooking oils for like $4. What the difference is I have no clue, but I am thinking because one is extra virgin:shrug:. Olive oil is really wonderful for heavy or light oiling. Sweet almond oil is my preference, but everyones hair is different.
jera May 2nd, 2008, 01:34 AM Ten dollars for coconut oil at Walmart is better than Puitan's Pride. It's almost twenty five there and that does not include shipping charges. I had a feeling coconut oil would tend to be greasy, because ojon is palm nut oil and that is so greasy that I need to use so much shampoo to wash it out of my hair, it tends to negate any benefits derived from oiling. That's the only reason I shifted to extra virgin olive ol. It's easier to rinse out and it rinses clean
What's monoi oil, by the way? I've never heard of that type of oil before.
