View Full Version : I need an emergency Recipe!
Saranne772 April 30th, 2008, 10:52 AM I am completely out of my supplies for conditioner options- honey CO/ Molasses CO/VO5 Conditioner.
What can you recommend as a home-made conditioner? I need to wash my hair tonight :) Using ingredients generally found in a home already!
I don't mind trying something new. I meant to get some new things today but it completely forgot
ktani April 30th, 2008, 10:56 AM What have you got in the house?
Egg yolk is supposed to be good - mixed with olive oil, I think.
Saranne772 April 30th, 2008, 11:02 AM Well I have most of anything that everyone has in a well stocked larder :)
And thanks tis a possibility but not sure if we have olive oil, might just be vegetable oil
icydove April 30th, 2008, 11:11 AM Do you have any herbal teas on hand?
Saranne772 April 30th, 2008, 11:18 AM I might do actually, Ill check the cupboard when I go up to the kitchen in a bit
ktani April 30th, 2008, 11:27 AM A vegetable oil will work just a well as olive oil in a pinch, IMO.
sibylla April 30th, 2008, 11:27 AM I put Nivea bodylotion (the blue bottle with almond oil) in my hair just before washing it. Then lots of ACV at the end of the washing.
Islandgrrl April 30th, 2008, 11:29 AM Avocado? Banana? Mayonnaise? Egg yolks? Olive Oil? Some combination of the aforementioned?
These are all, of course WAGs (wild-a$$ guesses). But they all do have conditioning properties (assuming you can stand the smell of mayonnaise).
Saranne772 April 30th, 2008, 11:44 AM Well, I dont like the idea of banana because of some of the comments I've read in other threads
Also no herbal teas in stock atm
Or mayo (too fattening unfortunately)
I can't say Ive ever had avacados!
I'll take back what I said about well stocked larder!
I think twil be egg yolk and veg oil at this rate. What proportions?
Thanks for the suggestions, although I am open to more if you have a suggestion!
ktani April 30th, 2008, 11:59 AM I have never tried egg on my hair but I have followed the reports of those who have tried it.
Egg white has been a problem from what I understand.
I think that you could try 1 egg yolk, well beaten with a bit of oil, too much might make your hair greasy.
Ursula April 30th, 2008, 12:02 PM If you have egg and olive oil, you can mix them into a homemade mayo. Here is the technique: http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Making-Mayonnaise/Detail.aspx
I'd leave out the salt, and perhaps use ACV as the acid instead of lemon juice. Egg yolk, olive oil and ACV would probably make a very nice mix for a pre-wash conditioner.
icydove April 30th, 2008, 12:03 PM Banana will work fine if you strain it through a fine sieve. I wouldn't try it unstrained, though :scared:
I haven't had good luck using oil concoctions to make "conditioner." I think egg works fine as a shampoo, but remember to use cool water only.
If I were you, I would just hold off on washing until you can get your ingredients. Your hair may end up being an oily, greasy mess and look worse than it would if you didn't wash it. Water-only is an option to hold you over, just don't expect anything spectacular. Or, just bite the bullet and use whatever shampoo you have in the house if you just *have* to wash.

The problem is I have already left it a good while. I leave it until it is SO greasy that I cant do anything with it. (problem is its on the top of my head not the length  The ends absorb the oil and the top doesn't. Neither does it spread when brushed with my BBB!
Yeh, Im not too keen on the idea of egg, if it went wrong Id be scared ;)
I might look into the archives and see what people have experimented with that worked nicely :)
florenonite April 30th, 2008, 12:59 PM What about just doing a scalp wash tonight so you don't need to condition?
Saranne772 April 30th, 2008, 01:25 PM That is a good idea why did I think of that  lol
