I've had dandruff for years. When I was younger I used to use
Head & Shoulders, which controlled it fine, but I've switched off it now and the dandruff has come back. I always assumed it was oily-scalp dandruff, as it only ever seemed to bother me by about Day 3, and it didn't feel like dry-skin itches. I searched the fora for dandruff cures and decided upon the ACV rinse, as I conveniently already possess some and like what it does to my hair (though I'd never put it on my scalp before). I diluted about a tablespoon in a half-litre of water, poured it on my scalp and hair, massaged it in, did the rest of my shower stuff and rinsed it out. This was on Wednesday morning, and I noticed a decrease in the itchies on Friday in comparison to the way they usually are on day 3. Consequently, when I washed my hair yesterday I did another ACV rinse. This one did stay on for longer so it was on my scalp for a greater period of time, if that makes a difference. Now, 26 hours after that, I'm getting dry-skin itchies. It's not the 'my hair's getting greasy and therefore itchy' that I used to get, but the 'my skin's really dry' itchiness that I get on my hands/feet (I have eczema). The only other difference in my wash routine yesterday was that I did not damp bun it as I wanted it to be dry for me to wear down to the ball yesterday evening.
I therefore have a few questions:
a) Could the ACV be causing this itchiness?
b) If the ACV causes it, could leaving it on for a shorter period of time (as I did on Wednesday) be the answer?
c) If the ACV isn't causing it, what is?
