I've been having on and off problems with ecema (which I can't, apparently, spell), but I'm fairly sure my scalp is suffering from dermatitis. It's gotten a bit better as warmer weather arrives, but I've had flaky patches on my scalp for months, and I can shake out my hair and see a shower of white. I've also scratched myself to blood fairly often in spots.

My thought is it may be my shampoo, which is a British brand, Henara. It conditions GREAT, so I've been using it mostly on my length now, and not my scalp. But it's still flaky. Tried ACV rinses; that made it worse. Has anyone else dealt with this problem, and have an idea? I've considered using coconut milk or oil to moisturize my scalp, and I would like to change shampoo, but I'd want one that conditions as well as Henara did. (Separate conditioners make my hair greasy, no matter how little I use.) Suggestions?

I feel your pain. I've got a bit of eczema which may or may not be linked to my itchy scalp, though my ACV rinses helped immensely. You say that separate conditioners make your hair greasy. Do you use them on the entirety of your hair or just on the length? Many members here use conditioner from the ears down and shampoo on the scalp only, of you want to try that. Of course, this depends on how long your hair is.

It is important to determine whether your scalp is flaky due to dryness or oiliness. Although I tend to have dry skin, I also get acne and a flaky scalp from oiliness, which I believe is due to an excess of sebum production due to dryness. This could be the case with you. I know you say that you think it's dermatitis (with which I'm not familiar), but I'm just throwing this out there to consider. Regardless, you may want to try switching to a shampoo that does not contain sulphates, as these scan be harsh on the hair.
