View Full Version : help! henna!
PHOENIX MOON April 26th, 2008, 12:18 PM Hey everyone,
I have used henna, and adore it. However, because I dyed my hair and damaged it before, my hair is more porous and the henna has soaked into the hair. I adore the condition, however the colour was lighter. Now my hair is better condition (new regime and not using chemical dyes) it doesnt soak up as much henna. I rehenna'd it so that it hid my roots better, and now my hair is orange. It looks cool but too brash and unnatural. I now have non henna'd roots coming though as well.
What do I do?!?!

Isilme April 26th, 2008, 12:55 PM it will oxidize in about a week, if you aren't happy with the colour then, rehenna, and rehenna. If that doesn't seem to help, add a tiny bit indigo.
Kirin April 26th, 2008, 02:22 PM I'm not sure what your henna mix is (i'm a total henna addict lol), but i have the same thing, i like the deeper flame red, but often get orange aorund the hairline and my roots.
To combat this, i do a henna gloss about every two weeks, these applications over time richen and darken the color, and since its a gloss, i can stretch out my henna instead of using 100 gm at a clip.
To help it a bit, and make sure it takes, i find the only way my hair will take up henna is to use a sulphate clarifying shampoo before a henna treatment/color. Otherwise I might as well take the henna and just pour it down the drain lol
I find a few drops of white vinegar in my mix helps too with it taking.
PHOENIX MOON April 26th, 2008, 03:00 PM Heya, My mix is henna to hot water until its sloppy, like thick white sauce. Then leave until the henna is cold. Then apply.
I am still thinking my colour is brassy and unnatural. My result was near enough 2 months ago.
I'm thinking of doing a whole head application in a month and a half. Will this worsen the application?

prosperina April 26th, 2008, 03:49 PM Just keep hennaing more. If that doesn't work, try some indigo. I like LUSH since the henna/indigo is premixed, and I only use(d) just a tiny bit.
terriej April 26th, 2008, 06:24 PM How long did you leave the henna on your hair?
Also, do you make sure your henna has released dye before you use it? I rub the henna between my fingers, if they turn orange, I know the henna is ready.
Were you still using shampoo last time you henna'd? Some people who don't use shampoo, still shampoo before they henna.
PHOENIX MOON April 27th, 2008, 07:36 AM The product I used suggests leaving it on the hair for 30mins to 2hours. Because of the bad condition and porous bit in my hair I have needed to keep it on for approximately 4hours to blend in.
I know when my henna is ready because a) it has cooled down to lukewarm, b) the oils are gathering on the top c) the pot I used has changed colour a bit, and d) if I am unsure I do a test on my wrist and it turns orange. I just kinda know as well, because of a mini harvest test.
I have been sebum only before I started henna'ring. I do water rinse my hair to get rid of excess oils before henna'ring, so the roots are done.

terriej April 27th, 2008, 08:33 PM What is the henna product? I don't mean to ask so many questions. But maybe you should try to henna again, using body art quality henna. It could be the oil in your hair or it could be the product.
