If I got this right now -
The coconut oil will give you a nice moisture treatment.
The coconut milk will give you a nice protein treatment.
Would this be right then?

I believe so. I know the first bit's right, and I know milk has lots of protein, so that seems right. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and clarify further.

I have no idea, but remember coconut milk isn't actually "milk" (like cow's milk for example or milk from any animal) so I don't know if it has protein.
ETA: I seem to remember (from other topics) that coconut oil helps prevent loss of protein from the hair shaft. Also, oil isn't a moisturizer, I think.
I'm sure someone else will come along who has better answers :o

I use them both! :) I use the coconut oil after washing, and I use both when I do a deep condish...They are two of the ingredients I use for a deep condish. The coconut milk is very moisturizing.

that's about what I gather too from the difference of oil and milk.I know the coconut milk recipe is used as a protein treatment(?)but I'm still iffy about the oil thing.
I just know my hair loves :heartbeat oil!

Coconut milk nutrition facts (http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c20oD.html). Protein and aminos, fat and carbs. A few vitamins. Pretty high in some minerals. I don't know if the minerals are good for hair. I don't know if they are bad either, I just don't know.
Coconut oil nutrition facts (http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c208C.html). No protein, no carbs, only the most trivial amounts of vitamins and minerals. Just pure fat mainly.
For me personally I really need to put coconut or any oil over some form of moisture. Even just water is better than nothing. But I have porous hair that tries to drink up anything in sight WAY too fast, plus, I can't even really comb it out when it's dry, so maybe I just have distribution issues related to those two things. If your hair is not too porous and you can comb/brush it dry, the oil might be OK on dry hair.
Coconut oil is said to prevent loss of resident protein from the hair, which is not the same as throwing different protein on it.
Be wary of any "coconut oil" that is marketed as a hair preparation. Things like that can often have mineral oil high on the list. Get the kind for eating.
