So, I am working myself all up that I ordered too much or not enough of henna/cassia from henna sooq.

This is my hair now http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/possum27/IMG_6690.jpg

And I am wanting a natural redhead, coppery sort of thing. Not a super bright red, nothing clearly not my own.

I ordered 300g cassia and 200g henna. I thought I would do a 50/50 mix, but now I am terrified I will end up with orange hair from that and should have used all henna. Then I think maybe I should switch my order to all henna.. and then worry THAT would get too dark.

Can someone please give me suggestions for a mix? I am too paranoid, lol!

100% henna will probably give you bright red-orange; I think when I did my first henna, my hair was a little darker than yours and very ash-toned, and it turned out a rather shocking orange before it oxidized. (I liked it, though. ;)) My suggestion is to do several strand tests; maybe one 50/50, one 30/70 henna/cassia, and go from there if neither of those turns out quite right.

I recommend a gloss. That way you can get a more subtle color. We have a couple of threads going on how to gloss with henna. Still do a strand test though!

I like the suggestions of both especially of Toof. I think doing a few hair strand tests is really the best option and from there decide between the 50/50 or the 30/70. I would recommend with those!

Make sure to check the strands after allowing several days for oxidation, before discarding the whole idea as being too flourescent orange. They really do settle down.

Your hair is so pretty the way it is...are you sure you want to change it? :-)

This is exactly what I am hoping for:

Oh, and yes I want to change it- my hair has looked like this for years- and I swear it is weird in that it always goes back to it's natural colour very easily. Honestly, that is never my worry, lol.

You do not need much to get there. Your starting color is so pretty and looks like it just wants to do that. I'd second the gloss idea, and again make sure you let your strand test oxidize first before deciding "Whoa it's too flourescent" and trashing the lot. Henna is really bright at first and oxidizes over a few days.

If that's all the color change you're looking for, you're definitely going to want MOSTLY cassia with just a hint of henna. Anything else will darken your hair more than you're hoping for. Don't forget you can always do multiple treatments to reach just the right color, but if you plop a 50/50 mix on your head for a few hours I predict a much brighter Irish type red.

Try a gloss with 75% or more of cassia.

I'll second the 25% henna 75% cassia suggestion. Better a few applications that are too light than one that is too dark!

25% henna to 75% cassia is my vote too - do you have chemical color on your hair? If so, the henna may grab a bit brighter... I'll re-iterate doing a strand test too (this coming from someone who never does:) )

No- this is my natural colour. It is quite red on it's own (which I never really realized until people started calling me a redhead. This is the first time it has all been my natural hair since I was 11, lol) I just want MORE red, so that it looks like those other pics I posted.
