I know I've seen a couple people talking about adding deposit-only dyes like Manic Panic and Special Effects to their henna mixes either to make it redder or less red, and I was wondering if people would be willing to share their experiences. I'm thinking of adding some deposit-only dye to my next henna mix for a more purple-y red, but I'm not sure about things like what proportions to use or which colors give what kind of results.

Hypnotica has done it at least once in the past. I've also done it myself once. I added some "Color Jamz" (I *think* that's what it is called) Raspberry Kamikaze and another purply-blue color to the henna. It helped push the purple, but I don't recall how much off the top of my head.

I have no wisdom to share, but I too look forward to answers. Now that Manic Panic has brown colors, I was thinking about trying them to brown up a little. I know that's what we're supposed to use indigo for, but so far my strand tests do not do anything, even pure indigo. And I have blonde + 5 hennas, it's a little Strawberry Shortcake/Ronald McDonald.

I can impart some wisdom from my perspective and experiments. I was terrified of the permanance of indigo, personally, but find that henna on its own leaves me a bit toward the orange/cherry side of things, when i'd really prefer a more natural shade of red.
I have recently been using Manic Panic Midnight blue in my henna mix (1tsp per gloss 2tsp to 3 in a full pack).
My experience has been that it definately works. It pushed my color to a WARM and soft red, hedging toward a chestnutty sable color. WAY more natural.
Oddly, though manic panic is temporary, i had NO fade whatsoever, not until I henna'd WITHOUT it. My recent henna i omitted the manic panic, and I'm back to orange, go figure!
next gloss will have manic panic in it!
I don't know what other colors will do persea, but i do know, blue will tone down orange, and violet will tone down yellow, and green/blue will cool down the fire of red.
