Does anybody use Shikakai as a shampoo and Amla as a conditioner? How does you hair feel with this routine? Thanks!

There are several people who use these and other Indian herbs regularly. There are a couple of threads in the herb section about this plus an article on Indian herb washing. You can find a link to it in my signature.

I've been using herbs almost exclusively to wash my hair for a year and a half now. Majority of the time they have been Indian herb mixes many of which had shikakai and amla, combined in a mud preparation with other herb powders added.

Since switching to herbs my hair has become wavier (2 a to 2b), shinier, less frizzy and less tangly. My hair is naturally coarse so I can't really compare softness feeling that much, it is smoother. It doesn't feel like straw unlike when I was using shampoo/conditioner.

I use Amla as a conditioner and it leaves my hair squeaky clean and quite shiny. The only caveat for me is that it takes me quite a while to rinse the amla completely out. I'm starting to wonder if I can find a finer sift.

What about straining it through a coffee filter? or some clean cloth like an old t-shirt that you can cut up?
