In your place, I would simply leave her hair alone. It probably wouldn't hurt her to use oil on her hair, but oiling won't return her hair to the previous length, so why risk it at all? Very gentle scalp massages might be a better bet and have the added benefit of calming her down/soothing her before bed.

Her hair will probably look just fine for her birthday, short or not. She is a toddler after all, they often have short/odd hair. Besides, their self esteem is pretty much boundless at this age and shorter-than-normal hair probably won't matter a bit to her.

I wouldn't do it - it's hard enough to keep hold of them as it is! :D

Don't toddlers oil their own hair with anything that might be in their hands?

LOL my 1 year old does his own banana treatments everytime he eats one.

I put lavender EO in my childrens bath water along with a tab of coconut oil.It leaves their hair and skin super soft.

I used grapeseed oil on dd when she was less than two to help her dry scalp and cradle cap issues. as long as the oil is natural and unscented and unlikely to be allergy related (ie nut oils etc)
But as for oiling for condition it's not really necissary on childrens hair as it's usually strong shiny and soft and not long enough or old enough to need major help, just a gentle shampoo and/or conditioner sould be fine.

I oiled my DS' hair when he was a baby to toddler (he had a dry, frizzy patch and curls), and I oil my baby's hair where she also has the frizzy, damaged area on the back of her head. It helps a ton with that issue, but from your post it sounds like you want to oil to get length? I don't think it would help with that, but a little on the ends might help tame it if it was curly and now poofing everywhere. Just stay away from plant oils with potential allergens like peanut oil. I usually use olive or coconut.

My DD is 4yo and when I do something to my hair, she has to do it to. It has been like that since she was about 1yo. If she doesn't get to do it, she is asking me 1000 questions about what I'm doing. I use cocoa butter, olive oil, coconut oil and a herbal essence leave-in (not all at once LOL). We had a detangling spray for her, though we used it up, I would not buy it again as I think what I have works just as well or better.

Between 1 and 2 1/2 yo, she had very lovely big curls. Her ends got tangles a lot and cocoa butter was easy and I knew with her hair sucking habits it wouldn't hurt her. She gave her self a trim and we started over with a bob in march 2007 and it is below her shoulders now :) and near stick straight but much thicker.

The biggest thing about using our products on kids/babies hair is watching the amounts and the ingredients, less and natural is better. But an oil will not make it grow faster.

HTH.

If you wanted to use a touch of food-grade oil as a detangler or such, that should be fine.

I wouldn't do any type of scalp massage or other things to try to make the hair grow faster. It isn't fair to a restless little child to make them sit still for the sake of your vanity over their hair. She's too young to care about her hair or appearence on her own, but if you get all stressed about how she looks, she's going to pick up on that insecurity, which isn't healthy.

I definately would not use any type of EO blend or other treatment that is supposed to make hair grow faster. Anything that you put on your child's skin is almost certainly going to wind up in their mouths, and that just isn't safe.

i would let the hair grow on its own if that is the case asking about using oils.
Children's hair can grow extremely fast in warm weather.
dd is almost back to waist length(pulled out curl) after a cut which brought her curls to apl in January.
