Coconut hair butter
8oz melted extra virgin coconut oil
2oz jojoba oil
10 drops vanilla essential oil (optional)
10 drops sandalwood essential oil (optional)

Combine all ingredients, and stir well. Pour into sterilized jars and let sit until it solidifies. It will have the consistency of soft butter at 70 degrees. Melt a small amount in your hands and use on wet or dry hair to keep ends soft and free of splits. A little goes a very long way! Keep in a cool place or it will melt.

I never thought to combine jojoba & coconut oil.
I'll have to see if I have any jojoba (I have plenty of coconut oil). And vanilla and sandalwood...simply yummy. :)

Thanks for posting this! :flower:

I use those oils seperatly but never together as a leave in.I always combine them when doing a overnight deep oiling along with Lavender to soothe me.This as a leave in and I also can use it as a time saver for an overnight oiling.Very cool

IMO-I'm going to try white grapefruit EO and Sweet Orange.I know white grapefruit is phototoxic so I will have to stay away from sunlight for 24 hours after I apply it.I don't go outside with wet hair anyway :) I just love the smell of those two together so I can't pass that idea up :D

I think I'll try this, since straight coconut oil makes my hair hate itself. D:

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS.

It worked like a charm. I had none of the crunchiness coconut oil usually gives me. ^_^

I'm going to have to try this as well :)

Apply to dry hair correct for overnight oiling ??

I've abused my hair with box coloring and bleaching the last 6 months and have lots of repair to do. I don't want to cut it as it is almost one length now even though it is a tad bit longer than jaw lenght.

Kimmy, I find jojoba alone not moisturizing enough, and coconut alone too... smelly ;) DH hates the smell of coconut, but if it is diluted and has EO in it, he doesn't mind it so much. It also makes for a softer oil than straight coconut, kind of like soft butter.

Deb, I apply it as an overnight deep oiling treatment on dry hair. I also use it to take flyaways and for detangling my daughter's fine hair (it forms dreads in mere hours!). This recipe is my holy grail hair product. I used to use box colour, and my hair was dead, but with this stuff and some TLC, my hair is wonderfully soft now, and not prone to breakage anymore.

Deb, the oils are only for fragrance - if you don't have them, don't worry about it :) It won't affect the performance of the hair butter!

I put it on my dry hair all over from roots to ends and have a slumber satin cap on for the night. Will WC or just W in the AM and then let air dry like I have been doing here lately....Just love that air dry effect now :)

Until I return...

i am mainly doing this to help soften my hair and to hopefully get the hair to lighten somewhat so that I can go natural grey/white...look at my profile and see my photo gallery..lol.
Any thoughts???

Well.....I had it on for 2 1/2 hours last night and felt the nape of my neck getting wet from the oils coming down. Got up and W W C and leave in C my hair going to bed with mostly wet hair which I really dont like to do (though I dont like or want to frydry my hair!!!!!) and it turned out nice this morning!!!!
It felt great when I first put it in and when I went to get it out...it felt like I had dreads in which to me is EEEWWWh!!! So I used my 50/50 and then my Direct letting it airdry all night.
Love it this morning...looks great !!!

I made this recipe withour the essential oils and I use it on my damp hair all the time. It tamess frizzies and make the hair smoother and I don't notice splits as much. This is a recipe I will keep using. Thanks Kimberlily

I'm glad everyone likes it :) I've been using it for about 2 years now. It makes cones less necessary on my cone-loving hair since a little bit will give slip and softness. It also makes a great OCM, and a wonderful skin emollient. I sometimes use it on my feet overnight.

O wait, I replied in your other topic about the shea butter hair creme, but I think it was actually this one that I made! :o

Or actually sort of a mix of both your recipes, cause I put in shea, coconut, jojoba and EO

Another great recipe! Thanks for posting again!

I have a couple of dumb questions - is this fluid or weight oz? What do you use to measure? Could something like a perfume oil be used rather than a regular EO?

I use weight ounces, personally. I actually usually just use a full jar of coconut oil and a full bottle of jojoba. Makes it easy :)

Fragrance/perfume oils would work just fine.

Thanks so much for this recipe, kimberlily. My ends had been crunchy after I henna'd, but after a couple days of this and they're softer than they were before.

I just want to say again that this is my hair savior. xD

Seriously, my hair has never been as healthy or shiny as it has been using this. It's incredible.

Thank you for this recipe, it is so easy! I replaced a little of the jojoba with castor oil for shine....Nice!

This sounds great - I'm not keen on coconut's smell either but I like the convenience of its being non-liquid. Now my hair's getting longer, the ends are starting to crave oil on a regular basis.

I'd like to try it with calming/uplifting mandarin EO (I avoid the sun).

Refined coconut oil will be fine too. Extra virgin has a more coconutty scent, and is better if you can get it, but there's nothing wrong with using refined coconut oil.

I'm so glad you like it :) I just converted one of my daughter's classmates moms last week. Now she's using it on all three of her daughters as well :)
