We had this thread back when, I figured I'd recreate it ;)

This holds all my toys, save for my blue 60thstreet and two click clacks (in my hair now).

Elastics are in a drawer, but no fun in showing them off now hehe

Lovely collection eadwine!

My photo is a bit blurry and the light is very bad as my hair toys live on one of my book shelves (please ignore the scary peacekeeping/war/intnl law books :D )

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t282/shrimp_026/09-03-08_1114.jpg

Top shelf from left
vase - metal sticks
brown pot - kanzashi, small and decorative pins
yellow glass - forks
honey pot - plain pins
big vase - wood and dymondwoods
little green pot - chinese carved wood
blue vase - Que horn (it only has one in at the mo!)
fancy schancy blue vase - topped sticks
little blue pot - extra beads for Quattro CBR stick

next shelf (less used things)
green bag - slides and flexi 8s
tea caddy - chinese pin/clip things
cardboard box under tea caddy - past times combs
metal box - barrettes
wooden box - speharb forks and combs - not seldom used but wouldn't fit on other shelf
pile of pink and purple boxes - shiny, sparkly things
jewellery box - misc, butterfly clips etc

Great collections shrimp and eadwine -- You're both so organized! O.o
With your little boxes, knitted toyholders etc.. Looks good! This one vase with both sticks and forks on top of my big, Greek vase is about as organized as I can get.. and actually my toys are the only things besides my personal papers, cell and wallet that I can actually keep safe.. Everything else is either just thrown into the ever-existing pile of "who-knows-what" or lost somewhere...

In the vase:
Both forks, homemade sticks, Graydogs, LongLocks, BlueBells and other shineys found at fairs in the Netherlands, Spain and Denmark^^
Next to it:
- My 4 ficcares (borders: black, emerald, silver matte - and one silver primavera)
- 3 of my slides
- 2 of my small combs + a Danish coin (worth about 40 cents :silly:)
- My big jaw clip
- My BBB
- And my 4 kitties! I'm a kitty person and my little brother knows that.. so he bought me these during our trip to the Canary Islands.. I got them for Christmas, and the proceeds would benefit the local wild cats.. I really liked the idea

Wow what a great place to put hairtoys!!!! Maybe I will see if I can find a small afgan like that to hang mine. I'm sick of them laying on the dresser

Thanks!!

You know where I hung this thing? Right behind a door. It is a wasted space anyway as no shelving or anything can be hung up there. This thing fits just peachy in that spot and the door does not bang it when it opens :D

Here's mine-- Hey, I can still fit it all in one picture! Barely...
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/chloeishere/IMG_3122c.jpg
I included the elastics I found along the way-- all the loose ones are just the ones I found in my purse, I by no means included all-- I've got two full 24 packs loose around here, somewhere. I'm not positive these are all my toys, but I can't recall anything obvious missing, so it'll do.
Anyway, from left to right:
Elastics, cheap stick pair from Claire's, grey hairband (I don't think I've ever worn it), Big twist stick from Simon Handmade (peachwood), Agatewood ketylo, owl stick from Quecraft, tahitian jadewood ketylo, Exotic Swirls stick from G3studios, "magic wand" stick from alesis218, green-black aquapearl ketylo, little flower stick from Simon handmade (boxwood), Carnival ketylo, alabaster ketylo, tortoise ketylo, vineyard ketylo, santos zebras ketylo , beloved Etta Mae tulipwood 5.5" pawn, Javacentric shell fork, Javacentric 4 prong fork, javacentric horn fork, Quecraft butterfly fork.
I know it's not too easy to see any detail because I had to back up the picture so much, but if anyone would like a closeup of anything, just let me know!

Here are my everyday sticks in a jar.

http://www.gossamerstrands.com/Hair/stickjar.JPG

I used to keep them on a wall hanging, but things got too crowded, so now only slides, barrettes, forks, and unusual sticks go on there.

Argh, I forgot my flexi-8, and then right after I took that photo, I got two more in the mail from the group order on TBB!
Top: Large black nickel
Medium celtic knot with corrugated rounds
(this is the one I already had) medium native american centerpiece with jade hearts
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/chloeishere/IMG_3126c.jpg
And I think that's everything... my collection is rather embarrassingly large since I've only been on here 5 months.

We have 2 sets of those cheap plastic draw units that stand on top of each other. All looks very organised at the moment but gets mixed up up very quickly (as you can see by the clips on the left seem to be in every draw) things tend to vanish / turn up at random.
Left set top to bottom:
mini clips / bobby pins etc.
Jaw Clips / French Clips
Random small stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else
Headbands
Right set top to bottom
Elastics
Fluffy elastics
Scrunchies
Random large stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else
Ribbons

5th in from top right are my all time favourites... I'm going to be so bummed when my hair is too long for them. It's now too long for the stick on the bottom left :(

I haven't bought anything from him for quite a while, not much taking my fancy at the moment, except for the silver bronze stuff.

And finally, not a hairtoy, but something to hold them in:

If these are too large (600x500) can someone prod me and I'll just resize the uploaded images.

All of you have amazing collections! I am unskilled with the camera. My collection is minor in comparison. I also rotate through the ones he makes when I feel like trying something new.

Thanks! I had a ton of fun working on it :) It was actually a watch that belonged to Beldaran's grandmother before she passed away, and Beldaran was nice enough to let me create something new from it.

I only wish it ran so I could watch the little gears go, not that it would ever keep running with the parts all exposed like that. Oh, and I love that it says "Gotham" on it. Well, because Gotham City is cool :D

Lisa, not fair. I listed hairtoys from two makers only. Of course you can name them. That doesn't proven your hairtoy knowledge. :D Of course I have no doubt you DO know all of them.

helanek, sure I'll keep you in mind. I sell the ones I don't use sometimes. :) But I'm probably not outgrowing these anytime soon. They're custom made and are all very big/long.

I notice a few of you have wooden Heike Köhler hair slides, I used to have one that I bought in a group order a long time ago, but it broke. :-(

Does anyone have a link to her website so I might buy another? Thanks!

Just because it isn't on their homepage, doesn't mean they don't. I'd just ask. But shipping overseas from Germany might very well be quite expensive, in USD, for one person.

You have a point, Carthasis. I'll have to brush up on my German and send 'em an email. As it stands, I remember enough to read through the website and find that the only country options for mailing listed are Germany and Austria. Thanks for the advice there.

Ok. I was at the mall (ick) several years ago and found a hair stuff store that had some awesome clips. I ended up getting two different clips there, one wa a black fakkare, and they had some silver ones that looked almost exactly like that that I wish I would have gotten at the time.

Seriously you people, looking at all these pictures makes me feel so jealous! I just always wore my hair down or in a messy bun till it reached waist lenght, I usually just braid it now. This thread really makes me want to go to buy some toys! :D I don't even own a hairstick!

This must be the only actually pretty hair thing I have. Bought it in Namibia last June :) My hair killed it and broke it in two but I glued the pieces together so it should be fine now.

Holy bajeebus, Mely - that's a LOT of hair accessories!! :D

ETA: At the bottom of the third last pic (the one just before the Ficcares) - the three-prong fork in black wood(?) + pewter/silver - do you recall where you got that?

Mely
June 10th, 2008, 02:37 AM
Rae,
That pewter narcissus fork came from Lytha Studios. The fork part is not wood, but black plastic. It was originally a 5 prong fork, but I removed 2 of the prongs, since I couldn't get it into my hair the way it was originally (prongs too close together)

If you scroll down on this page, you will see it. http://www.lythastudios.com/misc/oberon/clips/nature.html

 Well...um...can anyone direct me to a Hair Toys Anonymous meeting?

I've been led into temptation by this site! Before I joined this site a year ago, I only had maybe half a dozen barrettes and some elastics.

Here are a few more that got left out of the other pictures. I had some larger plastic clips, similar to the black ones with the roses painted on them (left of photo) that sapphire-0 had kindly given me, but my grown daughters took them. They worked very well, and I keep searching on ebay to find similar clips. Someone here has a clip like that in her avatar--but I can't remember her name. (starts with a D I think) She told me she got it in Taiwan.

I think most of those hairsticks are carved in China by cheap labors. Both Crystalmood and Simonhandmade are importers. :) They're kinda mass-produced, like those horn sticks from that Vietnamese seller. Oh well, they're still beautiful and good for the pocket book. :D

CM, definitely.

I do (strongly) suspect that crystalmood and simonhandmade import from China (inexpensive, talented craftsmen there), which is a shame since I doubt they get paid what the workmanship is worth. I haven't tried crystalmood (it was one of those "someday I'll orders" that never happened), but the sticks from simonhandmade are very nice quality, very smooth and hairsafe, and light.
I have a hard time using the "big twist" stick, which is a shame, because it's beautiful-- the flared top is a great look in hair. Maybe because the twists are uneven? Or my wimpy fine hair? I haven't tried it in a while, actually-- it might work now that I have more hair to put it in. On the other hand, I prefer to use my shorter sticks now, while I still have a kind of small bun, and then "rediscover" my longer sticks when I have a nice big bun! That's the plan, anyway!

Your hairtoys are :thud: Mely! WOW!

About the wood, I suspect it's clippings from pruning fruit trees (it is mainly peach wood). You can make thin sticks out of small branches. And the way boxwood grows, too, being mostly a bush and growing so, so slowly, I am inclined to think they are branches too.

Wishful thinking perhaps :o

my good camera has bit the dust, but you guys inspired me to take pics today of my toys.
The first one I am going to show is a sterling silver and bone fork that is inset with a carved labrodite face that the light shines thru. The little white stone that is blurry is actually a white opal. I am planning on having the topper set onto a more sturdy base so that I don't lose it.

I admit it, I am part Magpie and can't resist a "SPARKLY!!!" I use these pony holders to dress up a bun. These are the high-quality pony holders with Swarvorski stones set four prong (not glue)

One Ketylo topped and some homemade toys including some rattie themed ones. The star is sterling with an inset amethyst.

How's the hold on those G3 studios? They had one with a smiley face that I really liked.

I find the hold really good, and they are quite comfortable, as the prongs are a good width, and they don't require as much pushing to get into my hair as the 60thstreet forks. I liked the smiley face one, too - I think it is quite similar to my heart fork, which I love. :D

Very lovely collections, DecafJane and yldchyld!!

DecafJane, the "two very strange but interesting sticks" with the large toppers, how do you wear those? Do you wear them straight up and down like in a fig8 bun? I ask since the top seems so heavy, I would think it would be too heavy to wear sideways.

I finally took the time to figure out my new camera. Here goes...

My current hairtoy home, I have a crapton of antique vases and pottery inherited from my family so I like to swap them out and change them from time to time. Of course right now I'm partial to this silly glass vase from a flower delivery last year. :p

Left to right: silver barrette I use for half-ups, huge sparkly claw, 2 Byrd combs, an ebay comb, and 2 France Luxe combs. I use my combs like hairforks with a braided bun, the business portion arcs over my bun and looks purty.

Antler fork from ebay, quattro, ebony & pink ivory baerreis, indigo blondiesturn, tiger maple baerreis, funny cameo (arrrr!), etsy fork, crafty celts fork, france luxe and misc ebay fork.

To be honest, I can't wear these yet as they are too big for my hair, which I almost always wear in a french twist. The tops aren't TOO heavy, as they are mainly wood, so I think I will probably be able to wear them either sideways or angled slightly. They hold reasonably well in a twist, but they are big so I'm not game to wear them yet, however I quite like the way they look as they are so different. :) I have thick, wavy hair which graps things anyway, particularly wood.

Ndnlady, your Indian beaded sticks are so pretty! Where did you find them? I see so many LHC raves in your pics, you must have been lurking here for quite awhile. Glad you decided to come out of hiding to post & share pics. Is that a dragon slide I see in your last photo? We need action shots of that one!

I love that this thread is still going strong. It's so much fun to see other people's collections. On that note, I updated my collection pics here (http://classiclength.home.mchsi.com/bathroom08.html).

It's a barrette...I guess some people call it a slide. A left-handed one at that..so it's hard to put in the hair.
Ebay of course. The curse of my pocket book. I haven't worn that one in years, I almost put it up for sale because of that. But it's so pretty, I left it in the box.

http://classiclength.googlepages.com/dymondwoodvase062108s.jpg
If you are thinking of the one on the left it's made of aqua pearl or poly pearl (a plastic molded material that wood turners buy in blocks like dymondwood, then carve the shape). Last time I asked papadonh said he doesn't like working with that material and has no plans to use it in the future. But he may have changed his mind (I think several people have requested it), so you might try emailing him about it. The color name is turquoise, there's no cream --just the camera flash reflecting light. It's actually robin's egg blue with slashes of black.

The one on the way right is amazon and he's still making that as far as I know.

For complete overkill ;) here's the names (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=152547&postcount=2)of all my papadonh sticks.

Eresh, sorry I didn't realize you were looking for the *real* color name. Papadonh calls it amazon. Here are two dymondwood manufacturers and from their photos it looks the most like Field & Stream.
http://www.hutproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=0119

Papadonh is bad about re-naming colors instead of going with what the industry calls them.

These are the combs: 1 (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8852.JPG), 2 (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8853.JPG).

The hairsticks:

While I was at it, I also took pics of the rest of my hairtoys. Here they are:

The claws (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8860.JPG), which are not very interesting. The golden one is a France Luxe and I love it so much, best claw I've ever had and strong, long lasting.

http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8861.JPG
Mei Fa's (green is Mariana, silver is Laura... or the other way around? The red (Chatham) I bought from Eboshi :))

Evita Peroni stick I got for sale in the airport (detail (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8863.JPG), it is quite cool), random fork from the fair, two sticks I made ages ago.

France Luxe stuff, I took this (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8864.JPG) and this (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8866.JPG) pictures today, the first shows the new combs I got from OhioLisa =D and the Mojave hairsticks, but this one is better:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=912&pictureid=11494

New Chignon Pic - Tokio, Chicago Barrette - Tortoise, or Luxe?, Elysee Barrette on Tige Boulé - Mousseline
Santa Fe Comb - Luxe (I think), Marie French Twist Comb - Toirtoise, French Twist Comb - Mojave ( I love this color)
Mini Wavy Combs - Tortoise or Luxe

Random flowers & my only scrunchi (http://www.innershelter.net/journal/2008/06/hairtoys/IMG_8867.JPG) (silk, from FL too)

I am glad that my collection is (not yet I guess LOL) out of hand and it all fit is a small basket:

*gasp* You guys are SO ORGANIZED! I can't take a photo of my stuff because it's all over the place. I keep them laying all around the house, so I can do my multiple hair styles throughout the day ;) And, in my car, in my jacket pockets, my purse....:D ;)

this is so sad. Most of my "toys"are ribbons. And headbands.and mini claw clips.I'm still expecting a dragon hair pin/barrette from QueCraft.

wow.I was just browsing this thread again and stubbled upon this.I have so many now-they all dont even fit in the basket anymore.I'm going to break out my knit scarf that I don't wear and start using that to hold them all...I'm slowing down now in buying toys, which is good.My wallet can't take anymore retail therapy :o

ETA-wow julya I'm in major bun envy over here. It's so perfect-not a strand out of place.I'm hoping I'll get that way too soon :)

The ones in the fist pictures? here: http://stores.ebay.com/simonhandmade :)

:thud: These are my ... my dream hairsticks! I just visited his eBay store, and it was like someone had already made all the hairsticks I had ever wanted....

Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. And they're cheap! And for once, shipping to Canada is less!

Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy....

sapphire-o - your favourite hairtoys have drawn me in from lurking to ask what colour the fork on the far right is?

For anyone else who was wondering, I contacted 60th Street and they advised that it is Southwest Coral Stratabond but that they no longer work with Stratabond.

That said, they happened to have enough of the Southwest Coral left to make a fork for me:cheer:

I'll post a pic of my small collection when this latest order arrives.

My 'collection' is randomly acquired and consists of three or four sticks and a mini-fork, so I'll spare you the sight :)

May I ask you where that trident-stick is from? thanks :flower:

I bought it off ebay.. I haven't seen any on there since sorry. But I found a pitchfork that seems to look very similar and same sort of size (which is huge btw)

Winter,
that is a great slide!

My family owns a blues bar and I think I'll just have to try my hand at making something similar. It would be a big hit.

Thanks for posting the close up.

I do that with my cheapo stuff. I have claws everywhere. The nice hairtoys I keep safe and sound and organized.

I just KNOW that if I left one of my wood sticks out somewhere I would come home to find Cat teeth marks in it.

My cats are weird.
