I LOVE my organic excellence conditioner, it's a tad pricey though, especially since I have to wash everyday (good thing a little goes a long way). I was thinking that perhaps I could mimic their formula:

Purified Water, Natural Glycerin, Soybean Oil, Vegetable Oil, Natural Oil of Spearmint*, Panthenol, Carotene, Vitamin E (D-Alpha Tocopherol), Olive Leaf Extract, Ginger Extract*, Chamomile Extract*, Comphrey Root Extract*, Rosemary Extract*, *Certified Organic Herb.

If I combined vegetable glycerine, distilled rose water, trader joe's vitamin e oil (soybean oil, coconut oil, and vitamin e) with a bit of rosemary EO, would it be safely preserved? Would it work?

thanks:cheese:

I'm not sure if it preserve well, but I wonder what makes it conditioning. Is it the glycerin?

I imagine so, as none of the other ingredients seem like they would have any "weight." But this conditioner is the best of the best for my hair, and makes my scalp tingly :cloudnine:

What ingredient will help to wash it out?
It's basically oil....

I´m afraid your ingredients list is not complete. Now it is just an oily glycerin mixture which would just leave your hair oily and very lank. Usually conditioners contain some kind of surfactant, not as strong as in shampoo, but some is necessary to make it work. Otherwise it does not wash out enough. That brand seems to use Cocamidopropyl Betaine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocamidopropyl_betaine) in their mint conditioner, which is regarded a medium strength surfactant and is widely used in conditioners and mild shampoos. Often in combination with strong scents :p pure Betaine stinks. Anyways that ingredient is accidentally missing on many inci lists for this conditioner I could find on the Internet, just a few state it as ingredients. Possibly because it actually is a chemical and claiming to be chemical free and then having Betaine as inci would make some people go *roflmao* at least I did when I saw it.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant, so it´s not directly acting as a preservative preventing germ growth or mold in a mixture. Imho the actual preservative is accidentally missing in their list, too

dangnamit! The betaine is in their shampoo, hence I don't use it, but my bottle doesn't have it listed : /

I don't use any perservative in my conditioner. I make up small batches and use them up before they have a chance to go bad.

Hummm I love my nose (sacrasm) I didn't notice a bad smell with the cocomide. Now I am wondering what others must have been smelling as I walked by.

Also, in addition to the oils, panthenol is conditioning and smooths the cuticle. I think it's an emollient.

I have made my own conditioner now for quite a while. You need an emulsifier for the oil and water to combine into a cream/lotion-like consistency, I use BTMS and I preserve it with Preservative 12, I am very happy with it. My last one was made with Monoi and Walnut oil, and smells just like monoi oil, lovely!

I have bought this natural conditioner from Organic Creations....

It is moisturizing and works well for my hair.....I was using it exclusively for a while, but have gone back to cones for protection.....I still do use it occassionally though....it is thick like a cream, but doesn't seem to weigh down my very thin fine hair.....

Did this get oil out? I've been having trouble balancing getting oil out vs reaping the benefits of oil
