Sold

I have two of these combs that are very similar. This one I have lovingly restored by carefully buffing off the oxidation with wool (yes, actual sheep's wool felt) and sealed it well with Renaissance wax). I just don't wear this one since I have the other one.

If you would like, I can include a little lip gloss container with a sample of the Renaissance wax with it so you can try it on some of your hair toys. I use this micro-crystaline wax on almost all my hair toys. It is crystal clear and protects them. Museums use it on everything (wood, porcelain, rubber, ivory, metal, etc.), that's how I found out about it.

I hope you enjoy it. That would make me very happy. These combs are very wearable and look gorgeous tucked into the edge of a bun or twist. My favorite . . . I take the top hair and twist the tail a little and make just a little pouf for lift and anchor it with a long kirby grip (bobby pin). Then I make my bun with all the hair and either use Hair scroos or amish pins (something inconspicuous). Finally, I pull out the Kirby Grip and place this comb in the top of the bun at the scalp catching some of the bun and the twisted hair. The compound curve makes a beautiful addition to the bun, yet it's close to my head. It's just a brilliant design.

Shipping will be $4 in the U.S. and $8 outside using first class or parcel post. I will accept either paypal or money order.

Vulcanite Comb, this is one of the prettiest ones I've ever seen. The making on the back is I.R.0.08 (The 8 could be a 2 or 3, it's hard to tell). I can find absolutely no flaws in this comb at all. It just glows with a rich darkness. $42.

I thought you might want to see a before and after. All I used was wool felt and the Rennaissance wax.

I am trying to resist this one, but having some problems.
Never expected it to still be here today...where is everyone?

Anyway, I'm too new to PM, so I'll just ask here- can this comb be used just like a wooden one, or does it require any gentle or special care? I don't have anything made of this material and I don't know how it wears..

What is vulcanite? Is it a rock or something?

It's made of a hard rubber, the teeth flex a bit.

I have one that's exactly the same shape, but the top is a slightly different pattern that I wear quite often. I don't "torque" it down the same way I would a heavy wooden comb, but it does provide support and attachement the same way it would if it were strong plastic tines.

This material is amazingly resilient and is still used today to make combs . . . just not such pretty decorative ones.

I wouldn't support a whole bun with it, but it does a good job of holding the bun close to your head while looking super pretty.

Oh wow, how pretty! I'm very sad I missed this one! If the sale doesn't go through/new owner doesn't like it, I'd be more than happy to purchase it...

I got my hair comb yesterday evening! Thank you so much, GladtobeMom! And she also sent a bit of Renaissance Wax too. That was super nice.

The comb is just beautiful! But my hair is too big. The comb slides right out if I so much as turn my head.

I think if I made a pinned, secured bun and just tucked it in it would work. . .but it would just be decorative.

I've emailed Sammieeve to see if she is still interested and if it would work in her hair better. . .waiting to hear back.

But wanted to show you all how beautiful the comb is! I love it.

I have been thinking about this one since it was declared 'sold'.
Looking at it in your hair makes it easier to understand it's size. If sammieeve turns it down, I would like to buy it.

Great! I'll let you know if Sammieeve decides not to adopt it!

Just learned how to do a Gipson Tuck. . .it's messy, I didn't even brush my hair first. But I think the style is really pretty with a comb.

Pretty comb, but I was wondering about the recipe for the wax. I have a few old combs, and I'm sure that they would enjoy a good waxing. I have them in ziploc bags to keep them separate from each other.

So I got the comb but forgot to come back here to post! It's lovely and works perfectly. I PM'd Gladtobemom about care for the comb and she gave me the link for the Renaissance Wax (http://www.restorationproduct.com/) she uses and I've already ordered some to care for my new pretty! Thank you very much gmdiaz! :cheese:
