Iv been letting my hair grow out from my last henna.(3 months ago)So my
root growth is 3 inches and dark brown. Rest of my hair is red and it goes
to my tail bone. As now Im confused..should I get straight indigo for my
whole head then later do a all over brown henna of sorts over? Or just
do a brown but leave it on longer. My past red henna I left it on for over 3 hours.
Its bright red.It GLOWS-not a good look now.

Im wanting the dark brown coffee color.

Thank you.Looking for any help I can get! :) Been searching
in the forums as well.

I've been using rainbow dark brown premixed henna/indigo. You can see my results in my album. It leaves my hair a very dark brown, with subtle red tones

Surya Henna Cream in Golden Brown gave me a very nice coffee brown. It doesn't really have much henna, but it has no peroxide or metals salts in it. It does, however, have a goodly number of petrochemicals in it which I'm not sure I'm happy with.

I have to say, for ease of use, pleasant smell, good condition and colour - 10/10 for me. :) Well, 9/10 - because of the chemicals!

I second Rainbow Dark Brown. It's very good for a rich dark chocolate brown. It's usually available locally too, and it's cheap.

However, if you've already got red, you could do just indigo over it and it should turn brown or black. You would definitely want to do a test first. You might be able to do just an indigo gloss (indigo plus conditioner). Indigo is a bit runny on its own.

Why not try buxos or indigo only on your red lengths? Then try something like rainbow dark on the roots, combing through towards the end to blend it?

Is this an option?

I think an Indigo gloss on your lengths (possibly repeated glosses) would help the situation.
They will tone and darken the red into brown.

Thank you guys for helping me out! :) It was my first idea to use indigo over all my hair.
But I wasnt sure if the red still would glow under-threw the indigo a bit.Perhaps then
I might need 2 treatments..then a all over gloss. Ordered some indigo at my fav site
that I got my red before.Good price as well. Had to order 2 pounds since my hair is
to tail bone. Usually use a bit over half a pound of henna before..perhaps indigo will
be the same? Thanks for helping! :)

The Rainbow dark brown gave a lovely color, but gosh darn did it wash out quickly on me!!!

I've gone through 2 applications in about 6 months or so, and my ends are back to their orange-y color :(

I wish it would stick around better.

Sorry about that, Manderly! Mine sticks around forever! What did you mix yours with? I just used hot tap water and a dash of vinegar.

Mellie, does the vinegar help the indigo stick? Does it need acid?

Vinegar seems to help it stick for me, especially on my grays. Also, it helps if my hair is squeaky clean before I henndigo, too!

I just used tap water........perhaps I'll give it another go with some vinegar if I order some more in the future :)
