hi - i'm just wondering how many of you henna heads have a lot of silver hair - and what plain henna does to silver hair.
mine is very very dark brown with silver that is mixed all through and i'm thinking about doing henna.
i love red hair and i would of course do a strand test on shed hairs first ...
but just wondered what the difference is on silver hair versus dark hair.
would i have like bright orange where my silver is and then darker orange on my darker hair?

Yep! Henna is a translucent orange-brown color so it's going to be BRIGHT on your silvers. Check out these test swatches on Pani's silver hair:

There may be quite a difference between your non-silvers and your silvers after henna, but for the most part they'll look like lighter, brighter highlights.

I commercially dyed my hair light auburn for years using L'oreal.

My hair color at the roots was about like yours before henna/cassia in a 1:6 ratio.

My silvers are nice and strawberry blonde like the chart Nightshade shows--though a bit more golden--less red.

The dark hairs take the henna and are varying shades of deep auburn. I am thrilled that I took the plunge!!! Wonderful that pure henna DOES cover silver AND it doesn't fade!!! :cheese::cheese::cheese:

Enjoy the strand test experience.

well i probably will never get around to doing it
but i am thinking about it

i need to ask my dbf what he thinks about me changing the color of my hair after 3 years of growing the old color out!

he used to love my red hair. and i miss having the 'shock' value of bright red hair!

of course i am 49 now - and i love my silver hair - that is the only thing keeping me from doing it today ;)

I started getting silver hair when i was just 14 yrs old. BY the time i was 16, almost 70% of my hair had turned silver. Ive been using henna mixed with amla ever since, and my silver hair turn into red. Looks like as if i have highlighted my hair.

If it is too bright you can use indigo as well. I don't know how to do it because I don't apply indigo, but there are threads about it here. I do use henna and I've got some silvers. All the hair on my roots (not just the silvers) don't seem to take too well for some reason. Consequently, I do my roots every 2 weeks so I don't look my age :D

Hi there! I recently (about 4 weeks ago) henna'd my dark brown hair. I knew I had lots of greys but didn't realize HOW many until after the henna. They turned bright coppery gold. Over the next few days the color "settled in" a bit and they are less bright but still coppery. I love it. The brown hair looks...depending on the light, brown or auburn or reddish brown. Again, I love it and really enjoyed the process, too. That said, I occasionally miss my grey/silvers. I'd made peace with them and only took up henna to satisfy my inner redhead! :-)

I have very dark brown hair with about 20% silver and I'm experimenting with hendigo/amla glosses because while I wouldn't mind a bit of a deep red tinge, I don't want a lot of red because I think it would look weird with my complexion. The first one was a 50/50 mix of henna and indigo, but I only left it on an hour because I was a chicken. Today I did a 1:2 ratio of henna:indigo (plus amla) and left it on for four hours. I'm waiting for it to dry, and then I'll report back on how it did with my silvers.

My natural hair is a medium ash brown with silvers.

This is a shot of my hair in the sun using Yemeni henna.

You can see the streaks along the length.

They don't look this orangy..the flash did that. With Yemeni, I find I get amazing coverage and red sparklies. This is after a few hennas. The first henna time, it was orange. The more you henna, the darker and richer the colour becomes.

It's not completely dry, but dry enough. I don't think my silvers took up much of the dye, if any. I'm not sure about the overall color because it needs to oxydize more, but looks about like what I wanted--dark brown with some reddish highlights.

^ Did you clarify before hennaing?
