I have been using vo5 conditioners, suave coconut , kirkland hydrating conditioner (jojoba protein etc) for 4 -5 months now along with weekly henna treatment and oiling on alternate days. After doing all this i could see split ends and so i got a cut last week, but right now there is no shine to my hair and even though its just 15 inches long the ends are all tangle and get knotted and even the hairstylist was asking me how come ends are getting knotted so fast... do you think its protein overload ? i m going crazyyyyyy:mad:

It absolutely sounds like it. Try a clarifying shampoo that contains no cone's and a deep moisture treatment. A good protein free one is 1/2 cup of a vo5 protein free conditioner, 1/8 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of coconut milk, and 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel. To this i usually add vegetable glycerine, but its okay if you don't have any. Just anything moisturizing and protein free on your head for about an hour under a processing cap will do wonders!

 I thought coconut milk had protein.

Definately sounds like too much protein. I would first add some moisture and if that doesn't help then I would consider using something with cones to help with the knots.

ok, then i will first get a clarifying shampoo and use it once a week hence forth to stop this from happening again. And then moisturize my hair :)

And then moisturize my hair :)I'd caution against deciding to use a clarifying shampoo once a week without knowing how often your hair is going to need it. A clarifying shampoo is something that is usually used on an "as needed" basis. Use it once and see how your hair behaves. Don't use it again until you need it. Clarifying shampoos can be drying but they serve a purpose. I'd say go heavy on the moisture, light on the protein and clarify as needed.

I'm pretty sure that coconut milk doesn't contain protein, at least not in a way that is taken in by hair. I could be wrong, but I have protein sensitive hair, and never had a problem with coconut milk.

With protein overloads, its not the clarifying that works, its the moisture. If you suspect your hair has too much protein, protein is very drying, add moisture moisture moisture!

I say to clarify simply to make sure you remove any residue so your hair soaks up what moisture you put on it to fix the current problem. Afterwhich you may need to clarify very rarely. Clarifying will not in itself get rid of too much protein (it will make your hair DRIER if used too often eek!)

I'd say the first thing to quit is the weekly hennaing. Just imagine how much time you'd free up!

Actually yes i hate to henna though i have 100% black hair and i cant get any color using henna, i use it since it calms down my frizzy wavy hair. But i will be all enthu until i mix henna and apply , once its on my head all heavy i start hating it so much , since it gives a pain in the neck for 3 hrs :(.. I will do it once every 3 weeks i guess reason being lazyyyyyyyy and saves time... ;)
