I've been using a few drops of sweet orange EO directly on my face lately. It's very refreshing and makes my skin look brighter. I've read that you shouldn't use EO's directly on the skin though. If it's not causing me any problems, does that mean this particular oil is okay for my skin?

I'm no expert, but I believe that any citrus oil can increase photosensitivity so if you go outside, protect your face with shade and sunblock.

I've used spearmint and tea tree oil on my face before and have had no problems. Though citrus ones can increase photosensitivity, so as mentioned, be careful when you go outside.

i have used straight lavender oil on my skin with no problems - but i think lavender oil is one of the ones that it is 'safe' to do so.

actually i have also used orange oil on my skin also - and also in a bath - and it didn't bother me - it kills mites btw

but like the others said - be careful going out in to the sun - i have read that putting citrus juice on your skin can either make you burn or cause brown spots - so i would think the oil would be stronger

i used to use lime juice on my face til i got worried about the brown spots - LOL
but i never actually had it happen to me

I use lavender EO directly to my skin. It is perfect for healing small burns and slashes and all kind of skin irritation. I am pretty clumsy in the kitchen, especially when I am in a hurry, so I often get burns and Lavender EO, when applied immediately, eliminates pain and prevent vesticles.

Citrus EOs, cinnamon and also peppermint, could cause skin irritation, so I d be careful and rather use it diluted.

I have been using straight tea tree oil on my face for a year. Keeps my skin clear and blemish free. Helps me sleep too! :)

I'm pretty careful about going out into the sun anyway, but thank you all for the warnings! I was using the orange oil, and then thought to read up on it. It is used to treat depression and I can understand why. It is so cheerful and bright! Also, it is said to help aging skin regain some 'glow', and I have found this to be true. Not that I have aging skin, heck, I'm only 52!:p
(I'll definitely watch out for brown spots though, I already have one of those and I don't like it!)
