Was watching some utube yesterday on hair care, and one lady said that her hairdresser said that leaving oil on your hair can burn it.

Is this true?

Maybe if you used hot oil and it was too hot?

I think if it was the hot oil thing, or if you use heat appliances after you oil your hair.

I hope so. Sometimes I'll leave a coating of coconut and jojoba on my hair for a week.

I know tea tree oil can be pretty harsh and can give a burning sensation.

LOL if that was true Indian men and women would have 0 hair:lol: The only way was if you put oil on that was boiling hot which would in turn burn you;)

I could see if you used heat appliances it would... sizzle...

I've never been concerned about it. That's the first I've heard of it, actually!

Same with me...that's why I wanted to as the experts. :D

No, leaving oil in the hair can't burn it at all, as has been said it's probably been said under the assumption that you'd use heated appliances like straighteners

I'm definitely no expert, but thanks :-)

I should think that if you did use a flat iron over oiled hair that the hair would be less fried, since the oil would coat the hair a bit. Heck, if the iron were on a really low setting, I wonder if it might do good things to oiled hair?
(Bear in mind that I don't use a flat iron and have little scientific knowledge on the subject, so kindly do not, based on this comment, go soak your hair in oil and then fry it with an iron. Thank you.)

My guess would be that the flatiron would heat the oil, which would then hold the heat much longer than your hair ever good.

Very low heat, possibly helpful... typical flatiron heat, though....
