When you make a soapnut liquid, do you store the portion you are not going to used in the fridge? Do you need to make sure in a closed containter? How long does it stay good?

Thanks:D

Hi Lenac! :-)

I store it in a closed bottle in the fridge. It lasts at least a week, up to two weeks, for me!

P.S. You have gorgeous skin, BTW!!! You're lovely!

Oh, well thank you very much:o

You have beautiful hair, and reading all your soapnut posts made me want to try them:D

I make a huge batch of soapnut liquid at a time and have found by pouring it in ice cube trays I can store it for even longer. This way I always have some on reserve should I not have enough time to make a batch for one reason or another.

That's such a cool idea, Silver & Gold!

Just a bit more information on the topic of freezing. (I learned the ice cube trick when my children were babies. I made my own babyfood and froze it in the same way for convenience rather than buying the stuff in the jars.) I actually measured out one ounce to see how big an ice cube that would make. It turns out that my ice cube tray makes 1 ounce cubes when I fill them full. There were also 16 cubes per tray. So it was very easy for me to measure 2 cups of soapnut liquid and fill one tray with it.

So when I take out the cubes to use them for hair or laundry or whatever else I want to use them for, I know in advance that each cube = 1 ounce. I wouldn't be surprised if most ice cube trays make 1 ounce cubes.

honestly, I make mine 1Cup at a time, and pour it into a bottle I keep in the shower, and pour my 1oz into a smaller bottle to shake up.
I keep it there until its gone. I haven't had any issues with this yet! ;)

Good to know about the 1 oz. measurement, Silver & Gold! Cool!

Fencai, do you add anything to your liquid that might be helping to preserve it?

I do the same as fencai, my batches end up at about 1 cup or 3/4 cup, and I just store it in a bottle in the shower and pour the amount I'm using for a wash in the foaming bottle.
I don't put anything in it to keep it, it's just the soapnut and water. (Not the actual soapnut, but I hope you know what I mean :) )

i've had a 2c measuring cup of soapnut liquid in my shower since last weekend and it seems to be holding up fine--no mold or ickyness that i have seen (and i check for it). if the liquid is slightly antibacterial/antiseptic as has been noted before, it should be ok for a week or two at least, i would think.

note: the only reason i haven't refrigerated it in a closed container or frozen it is that i'm both forgetful (read: pregnant) and lazy (read: pregnant) recently. basically i haven't got around to it--it wasn't intentional!

note #2: i am aware of the concerns others have raised about soapnuts re: pregnancy so don't worry! :)

To confirm what others have already said, I have heard that the soapnut liquid should be good for a week unrefrigerated.

I just prefer to err on the side of caution. Besides, I don't want to have to throw any out if I forget to use it up in time. But if you know you're going to use it up in a week, I believe it should be safe.
