Since there was a Camellia Oil thread, I had an idea to give this little known oil the same treatment, (pun intended).

So to start off, here are some information articles on Emu Oil. These are just webpages that I felt had some informational benefit.

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emu_oil
2. http://www.emuoilsource.com/
3. http://www.hairloss-research.org/EmuOilfrontalregrowth.html
4. http://www.hairloss-research.org/UpdateEMuOil3-08.html

Number 3 is a really good article. It concentrates on the benefits of Emu Oil and hair regrowth.

Let the Emu Oil domination begin!

I've used Emu oil for years for pain and as an anti-inflammatory, but didn't know about its hair growing properties.

I actually found Emu Oil because of my skin. It was just a happy circumstance my hair loved it.

I've been using emu oil on my scalp for a couple of months now but I really haven't noticed anything with it. I didn't have a baseline rate of growth to judge by, though. I know my hair grew one inch in the two months I've been using it, so that doesn't really say a whole lot.

I'm using the oil on my face as well, mixed with my usual facial moisturizer, and I have noticed a difference there. The emu oil makes my skin softer, sort of dewy and it feels more elastic than without the emu oil.

Sorry for being a partypooper...I´ve heard that they kill the emus inhumanly so I have to skip this good product :(.Maybe the flax seed oil I use have some similar benefits?I´m too lazy to look it up right now. The emu oil does sound tempting Eryka but I loooove animals.

PS Have a wonderful day honney! Here it snows:(

Most animals, while in their natural environment and in the normal course of things, are killed "inhumanely". But yes, emus are raised for meat but everything is put to use, meat, oil, hide, feathers are all used for various purposes.

Thank you Kerynna for clarifying that. I didn´t know that. I´ve learnt something new today.

Last night I did an experiment. If Emu Oil was so good for my skin and hair, it would be good on my lips right. (Ok I can be slow sometimes, skin = lips too.) Turns out my lips loved it. There wasn't much of a taste, just kind of like olive oil and it went away pretty quickly. So woot, my lips are very soft now!

My favorite lip balm has the following ingredients: beewswax, EMU OIL, avocado butter, lanolin, mango oil, aloe extract, jojoba oil, meadowfoam oil, vitamin e, and essential oils.
And I agree, it's wonderful on lips!

I first found out about Emu from my mom, she used it years ago, for her face. She had skin issues that she used it on and it helped, not completely but it did help. And it made her skin much softer.

I didn't start using it until much later, but I love it on my scalp and skin.

I first started using it on my hands when I developed contact dermatitis from the soap that I had to use a work. It worked when nothing else did to sooth the irritation.

I then read about it helping hairloss, so I decided to see if it me, I had been shedding a horrible amount due to celiac disease. I now think that some of that is due to iron loss due to my body not absorbing all of the nutrients in my food:( But I am dealing with that anyway. But it did slow the hairloss from that even and made it soft so that was good.

I use emu oil for quite a few things.
Initially it was bought because I have stretched earlobes, and it is very helpful in maintaining healthy lobes.
Then I started using it on my face because I feel it gives a lot of moisture back into the skin.

Recently, and thanks to this thread, I tried it out on my hair after showering. I must say my hair was quite soft, especially my dry ends. So I think my hair likes this stuff too!
I didn't realize it promoted hair growth... perhaps I shall try scalp massages with it.

This makes me wonder....
After reading the article, and its statement that emu oil is non comedogenic - what about using it in OCM?

Also, do you find that it makes your hair limp or stringy? I have a problem with that happening with conditioners, even.

I so want to get some! I am hoping to use it with a view to darkening my hair. Anyone else found it useful for this?

Yeah, but not everyone reported the same results. It may also take longer on some people, I dunno. It took about 8 weeks or so for me to do a double take in the mirror thinking, "Is my hair darker, or is it the lighting?"

Where can you buy this oil?? Where did all of you find it?

Honestly, any health food store should have it, but it will be expensive there. Online is your best bet. I get mine from two places:

1. www.shimmerskincare.com (Cheap prices and they have small to medium sizes in case you're not sure how it will work on you.)

2. http://www.silkysgarden.com/store/index.php/emu-oil/aust-emu?SID=22iI50A4K1o9jEP8eY%2FWx7WVTRTLLJf0Y65Iu2Ny jKQ%3D (Here you can buy the huge sizes but still pretty cheap.)

Hope that helps.

I've been using it on my scalp only for 2 months and I don't notice my hair close to the scalp being any darker ...

I got mine from the healthfood store, in the skincare area. And yes, it is pricey, $19 for 2 ounces but it lasts a long time. You only need to use a tiny amount each time. It's sort of the consistency of melted candle wax; mine doesn't really feel or look like a typical "oil". It's emu fat, basically. (Kinda gross, really.)

I just ordered some. I really looking forward to using it, not just on my hair but for my skin and sore muscles, etc.

No it doesn't look like a typical oil. Its not clear and watery. More like cloudy and kind of thick. That consistency is normal, however if it smells birdy then its not good. It should just smell like oil.

I used to make emu oil soap and it made my skin feel so soft. I didn't know you could use it on your hair. I bet it would be fabulous for the scalp. Back when I made the soap, I had an aunt whose sister raised emus. That would be really expensive soap to make if you had to buy the oil! But totally worth it, IMHO.

Today I used it for the first time, though hair was already oiled with Neelibringadi oil. I added just a very little, dipping two fingers in the bottle. It made a big difference! I love the smoothness of the hair! Scalp feels nice too... :) - very happy with the results!

I love, love, love emu oil for my skin. However, I'm finding it a little too heavy for my hair. I usually soak my hair the night before I wash and CO will get other oils out, but not the emu. I end up with great feeling but gross looking hair. I'm probably using too much but I think I'll just keep it for my skin. I actually got carded twice last week. That barely happens since I passed 30...

Perhaps you are using too much. That left over oil feeling from coconut oil is actually what prompted me to try Emu Oil. A little bit of the stuff goes a long way.

Just a thought, it could be that you need to clarify your hair. Mine gets horribly lank when I don't and when using oils I have to keep up on that.

Yeah my plan is to actually wash with shampoo tomorrow. I've gotten used to being able to slather on every other kind of oil and having a CO wash it right out.

My hair is pretty temperamental with oil. Camellia is the only one I can use if I want my hair to look nice. Everything else, including coconut, is too much. And I can't use it on wet hair or I get stringy hair.

For some reason I've noticed that when using Emu Oil a lot, I need to clarify my hair a little more often. Normally I just do it once in a month. Since using the Emu oil I need to do it every 2 weeks or so. I don't precisely know why but, there it is.
