I am wondering if I can infuse herbs into my coconut milk. I want to add some conditioning herbs to it. If I boil it on low will that in any way change it's effectiveness? I am using low-fat coconut milk, if that's any help.

Thanks in advance!:)

Thanks Aisha25! I was thinking Hibiscus and neem mainly. I will experiment a bit more.

Well what I would do is make a paste out of those with coconut milk. Leave them 2 soaking all night in coconut milk and then in morning time grind them all together to make a loose paste then apply to my scalp and hairs.

Oh, that's nice. Is it okay to leave coconut milk out overnight on my counter?

It depends if its hot in your home or not. Just to be safe since its not pure coconut milk put in container in fridge with herbs:)

Another thing you could do is put your herbs in a pan with distilled water, cover and simmer, adding water as it evaporates. Once you've let them simmer for an hour or so, take off the lid and let it evaporate to a concentrated liquid, being careful not to burn it. Then add that to the coconut milk. My concern with infusing it directly into the coconut milk is that it won't infuse as well.

That is also a good idea. I sort of had the same feelings. Or, that I would burn the darn thing to a crisp. Bad cook, you know. :o

Oh, and you could also strain the herbs before adding them to the coconut milk, it'd make for MUCH easier rinsing :)

 Quick thinking Nightshade! I would've probably omitted that part.

I was thinking of adding cassia to my pre-shampoo LF coconut milk/honey soaks. I figured I'd just blend in a couple of tablespoons of the herb and leave it on the countertop at night to infuse. Unless you're leaving it out for days, I don't think you have to worry about anything spoiling. It's not nearly as prone as cow's milk, and the canned stuff has preservatives in it too. Plus many herbs have a function of inhibiting bacterial growth.
