Can henna be applied on oily hair? Will it stain? I totally forgot that i was going to henna my hair tomorrow and normally i apply henna to dry hair but i oiled my hair by mistake and i dont have time to wash them and dry them and put henna. So i was wondering if i can apply henna on oily hair and if it will stain. Thank you..

I think maybe you should wash it out.

The last 2 times I henna'd I forgot gloves so I slathered my hands and nails in coconut oil to keep them from staining too bad.

I prefer to henna on towel dried hair, it is easier to spread. Have you tried it?

I do it all the time cause henna removes oil so its ok to use thats how indian do it:lol: I have done henna on no oil hair, oil hair and it all comes out the same but if it has oil my hair comes out alot softer and better than with clean hair before applying henna:)

I don't see any reason when not. I'm known to put oil in my henna mix, and I've hennaed my hair when I was WO washing, so it was fairly oily. The henna removes sebum from your hair rather effectively, and I thought the stain was fine.

Yeah Anje me too henna is a natural oil remover so I think thats why most people feel there hair is dryer and tangle more after henna cause they wash the oils out of the hair before applying so making the henna remove more of the natural oil so making the hair even more dry. If you have oil in your hair either from your own or you putting and your going to do henna just leave the henna on alot longer that way it removes the oil and places a deep beautiful stain:)

Yes, I did that today, and my hair was almost squeaky clean when I washed out the henna. I still shampooed though, for some nasty clumps just didn't want to come out otherwise. It stained almost too much.

I know you can henna on oily hair and henna removes all the oil but i wasn't sure if it would stain as much as it stains on dry hair....

i didnt end up doing it today but now i wish i had done it this morningl. I will do it tomorrow morning though :)

Thank you for your responses...

If my hair is the slightest bit oily henna won't penetrate. I wash with baking soda right before I henna to strip the hair of coatings and to rough up the cuticle. Even then I have a hard time getting stain on my post-LHC hair!
