I was looking for a bun idea that looks like curls? You know when you might bun and curl the ends and some how leave them out to cover the bun? Is this confusing or does anyone know what I'm talking about? I don't have a pic to show and am having a hard time find instructions on how to make this bun. I was thinking about a pony tail and then section it off and bobby pinning them some how?

This might not be what you want, but I sometimes do this thing where I'll pony my hair, then section little chunks and just twist twist twist them until they fold down on themselves. Then I use a butterfly clip or a bobby pin on it and move on to the next twisting section. Maybe this is what you mean?

Hi there!
Maybe if you were to curl the ends rather curly, then
put your hair in a Figure 8 or cinnamon bun, but leave
the ends out? You may have to practice in trying to get
the rope of hair to end near the top so the rest of your
hair, (left out of the bun) will shower down over your
8 or bun.
Does that make sense? Hope this helps. How long is your hair?

I've done something like this for really formal events pre-LHC--and with lots of hairspray. I usually make a sturdy ponytail (2+ elastics), and coil sections about two fingers, pinning them hap-hazardly with bobby pins in an X. Later I'd pick up the hand-mirror to see the back of my head, and better analyze where to put the curled section, for balance. Normally I'd use about 17+ sections to the ponytail, I guess, and I'd pin in some sort of artificial flower. I've left sections loose, at the front, and twisted them back to pin, coiling those as well, just to make things interesting. Is this what you mean? (I should really find a photo . . .)
Edit: it takes a long time, though, and is pretty damaging so it only serves for really formal occasions. I've never used t more than three times in a year.

I did this by sectioning off a ponytail & rolling each section around a bottle (I didn't have any magnetic rollers at the time) and then I pinned them down with big bobbie pins. HTH
