I have...
*coconut oil
*olive oil
*conditioners - cone free
*Cacas from Lush (henna)
*Honey
*chamomille tea (and others)
*eggs
*vinegar
Help me mix something up for tonight. I'd like to do something nice for my hair but I'm out of ideas. I'd like to SMT, but as you can see I don't have any aloe vera.
So... what would you do?

Oh, I might try Tresses' recipe (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?p=157413#post157413).

Sometimes I switch out the aloe for olive oil in my SMTs. Works out rather nicely.

Thank you ladies!
Sometimes you just can't decide! :silly: Taking a shower soonish, so Tressies recepie it is!
Oh, and it was good to know that you could replace the aloe with olive oil. I suppose other oils can be used as well?

It's not compeletely the same thing, you don't really replace the aloe, you just do another type of deep treatment when you add oil instead of aloe. And yes, you can use any oil you like and your hair likes, I don't use olive oil myself because it's so hard to remove from my hair, coconut oil is easier.
I've also done a deep treatment with conditioner, aloe and coconut oil, because my hair doesn't like honey very much and this also worked just fine.

I understand. Hopefully. ;)
So oils does one thing for your hair, aloe another. Quite obvious when you think about it, but hey... I'm a total newbie.
I'm going to know soon if olive oil is hard to wash out of my hair as well. It's in there now.

You may find your hair likes the oils more then the aloe, or aloe more then oils or it just doesn't care. My hair is not a fan of aloe but loves the oils in DT (hates them as a leave in). I have used EVOO and coconut in an SMT, coconut oil is lighter.
When I have used EVOO in recipes (SMTs and cassia/henna mixes) I never found them difficult to rinse out but I don't use a ton and I use sulfates. ymmv.

You could try JJJ's Pre Condition treatment:
1/2 cup of water
1/4 cup of conditioner
1 tbsp of oil
I use coconut or jojoba, my hair loves this treatment, it works better for me than SMTs. Good luck with whatever you try.
