I love coconut oil. It's the only really good leave-in for me, detangles and makes my hair soft. So I have a big jar of extra virgin coconut oil.

There was a reason why I suddenly wanted to try regular leave-ins. The first day after washing the coconut smell is nice, but the second day, I don't know, I don't feel *fresh* anymore. I used it every day at night to detangle. I just made my hands shiny, no more oil than that. Just enough to give some slip.

I tried some leave-ins, they didn't work for me like coconut oil. I tried another oil (jojoba), doesn't leave a scent, but doesn't work like coconut oil. And I read that coconut oil that has been deodoured isn't as good as the extra virgin.

Is it because of the extra virgin? Does virgin smell less and doesn't linger as long? I really like coconut oil, but I don't like the feeling of having *grandmother's hair odour* :o on the second day.

My hair can sometimes smell funny from oiling, but I have been using Monoi oils which are coconut oil blended with very nice smelling flowers and other scents. I have it in Sandalwood, Jasmine, Pikake, Gardenia, and Vanilla. It works just as well as plain coconut but leaves a wonderful soft scent. I used some yesterday for a deep treatment before washing and my hair is soft and shiny today. :) A little goes a long way.

Another option would be to add some EO to your coconut oil. Maybe jasmine or vanilla or whatever scent you like.

ohhh... Monoi Oil sounds lovely! I love my extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil and I LOVE the smell. I have not tried using it as a leave in like you describe. I will try this soon :)

I adore Monoi oils, although I haven't used them in a while (may be time for a purchase soon). I actually haven't used any on my hair, but Monoi Tiare Tahiti was my standard body oil for a long time. Heavenly fragrance!

This is really my only criticism with coconut oil, after a few days it does get a slight stale smell.
The Monoi oil is a wonderfull idea, i've fancied trying it for years but it's not sold anywhere locally to me that i know of.
What i do is like has been suggested, either add essential oils, or more recently i use Hesh Heenara oil which is coconut oil infused with various herbs but smells absolutely gorgeous, i use it lightly after washing and top up each day and my hair never gets that stale oil smell with it.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that Monoļ oil thing :)
Is it also solid?

That's why I changed to refined coconut oil. No smell, and actually works better on my hair for some reason. Maybe because it's smoother.

I use refined coconut oil because of this very factor! All of my other haircare products smell like peppermint, and the coconut scent just wasn't mixing well with everything else. Occasionally I'll add a drop or two of my tea tree/lavender oil to the jojoba and coconut blend I use, but most of the time I use it plain.

I haven't tried coconut oil, yet, but I was thinking you could melt it and mix in some essential oils, or some lavender or rose petals, or some other yummy smelling herb. :)

I went out to buy coconut oil the other day, and i got this big jar, which says it's biological. Funny thing is, it's absolute scentless, so maybe that could work better for you?

I like coconut oil for a generous pre-wash oiling. Enough is left in my hair to give excellent results but no scent and no attracting dust and lint.
