Hi Lazuliblue, lapushka, eadwine, Larki and Rags, (hair cousin!) thank you all for your advice and sharing your experiences with flexi clips! I think a medium would be best to try as I would be using it for cinnabuns. Although, like you Rags, I love ficcares (eagerly awaiting the new lotuses) I would like to see how they work in my hair. Will keep you posted to how I get on, now I just need to find one I like....

I bought a clip from Cultmate today, and it may end up being a total disaster in my hair! :o It's a size L clip with pretty, sparkly danglies. I intend to use it for half-ups, so hopefully the tiny bun will stop the danglies from getting tangled in my length. I'll post pics when it gets here :D

This just in, got a mail from LR: lowered shipping rates! Was $6.95 international, is now $4.00 up to 85 grams (3oz). The heavier items international fees have also been lowered 30-40%. :)

Very nice Compass Rose on you, Fericera! :) (By the by, does anybody know why it's called Compass Rose? Because of lilla rose?)

That's some sweet news, eadwine! :D How much do you reckon one flexi weighs?

Fericera
March 26th, 2015, 07:45 AM
Thank you AlyBlu, squirrrel, and Wosie! :)

I think it's called a compass rose, because a long time ago map makers used to illuminate the map's orientation compass with lots of detail (rather than just using plain lines), and all the points in different directions sort of looked like a flower.

eadwine
March 26th, 2015, 08:53 AM
I haven't got a clue what they weigh.. it depends on the clip really. I have had really light ones and really heavy ones (to the feel, that is) and both were mediums.

My flexi from Cultmate arrived today! I love it so much, it's so sparkly and pretty! It's a size L, so perfect for half-up buns. The dangles will probably tangle a lot in my hair, but I don't care.

C'mon Eadwine, how could a true Dutchie hesitate about a tulip flexi?

As for me... silver, not my colour, blah blah. Skipping this one and the March one means the gaudy overpriced bauble in Feb was a great buy! :pegasus:

I considered it, but truth be told, I don't have the funds for hair toys this month - even with the sale (and like many, I have to take postage costs into account). Other stuff needed more. Hoping that I'll be able to purchase some more of the ones I would like to have in May. It's not that far away. :) I do like the colours of the tulips one though. Less sold on the centre bead though! ;)

I've got to say, I'm a bit disappointed with this flexi continuing the trend of silver and plain metal centerpieces. I got the email and thought "woohoo, tulips! There's no way this won't have a gorgeous colourful centerpiece, maybe even another enamel one" But no - despite have gorgeous flowers as a theme, the clip has really only a few coloured beads and a plain silver center :(
I'll just sit in the corner and pout until May... ;)

Okay, I'm almost done, but also - if the theme is tulips, why is one of the bead colours blue/purple? I mean, there are tulips in those colours but they're not as common as the red, yellow, orange and cream varieties...

Allie_snowflake,very pretty! Love the beads on that one!

I got a flexi-8 from Cultmate yesterday, and it's so pretty! Silver dragonfly with blue beads and blue danglies! It's in XL, so it's too small for regular buns and a bit too big for half-up buns, but it works. I love it!

It's not THAT big, but we've been having some really crazy weather this past winter and the spring has been no better. The mail throughout the country has been very often delayed WITHIN the country. It's taken some things a week or 2 to get from a neighboring state to my own. I heard on the news yesterday that in the center of the country there were multiple tornadoes and incredible hail storms.

Ok, I've finally been enabled ;) I ordered a Medium Heart Bouquet flexi from Lilla Rose yesterday!

I have one flexi-8 that I got from swap forum (I think) a long time ago, but haven't really used it much, and yesterday happened to browse the Lilla Rose sizing page; checked and my old flexi is a Large, which probably explains it - it's just a bit too big for my hair, so doesn't stay very securely... (And it's just plain black & silver, so not very exciting colours either ;)) So of course I had to go and look at the Medium sized ones after that, and fell in love with the Heart Bouquet :D All those colours! It's so fairytale-like. Hopefully I'll get more use out of it than the large clip :)

Lovely eadwine!!

And I'm with kaydana - nothing to apologise about!
I often notice that many of us apologise about our hair "not being perfect" in photos, but honestly it doesn't matter as we aren't here to decorate anyone's world anyway ;) And I'm sure no one notices the bits we are apologising for but us :p

BLASHPEMY!! Who doesn't like danglies. You are no longer my friend.. HRMPH *stomps foot*

Doesn't like danglies.. what the ... tss.

;)

This made me laugh!

Thought I'd join in on the fun :) It's been a while since I've bought any serious hair toys since I Big Chopped and went naturally curly. My hair is now long enough in its curly state that it requires utensils. I really don't like hair in my face.

I lost the flexis I had years ago...somewhere...:( in the middle of a move...don't wanna think about it bc it makes me sad. BUT I'm starting up a new hair toy collection.

I just put in my order for two large flexis. One in Rays of Sunshine, as yellow is my favorite color...and also a silver Celtic knot. Can't wait for them to arrive!!

I usually just wear my hair in a ponytail or just out in its full curliness...lately I've been doing half ups as well...so I just need something to add some jazz to it all :D

*girly squeal* lol can't wait!!

I am waiting for the new FOTM, hopefully I like it.

HOPEFULLY it'll be an enamel one pretty like the flitter, but I can only hope something as beautiful as that comes by again :)

ok - Eadwine kept saying that my length could be held up with a shorter flexi with a different bun. I do not know many buns other than the cinnamon - which I basically cage it with the flexi - and honestly, quite like it that way. But I ordered a XL (this is just an excuse - I probably have a few;-) ) to play with to see if I could get it to stay. And I finally found a decent video tutorial of the nautilus bun - I think I finally (after a few months of yelling at my clumsiness and horrible how - to's) may have finally got it.

OMG that's the one I ordered! It's so beautiful in your hair! <3 it really does look like sunshine! :) I got mine in large.

I doubt I'll be able to do any buns with these while my hair is curly. But whenever I decide to straighten it...I'll try these buns.

I used to be the queen of the LWB and got so many compliments on it, but I had relaxed hair then. Thankfully I still know how to do it! :D

Bingo! And.. I bet it is snug as heck huh! :D

I believe my bun is a variation of the nautilus, I just braid my hair first to give the floopiness some grip :) Gorgeous flexi by the way.

After ordering 2 Flexi smalls and a Flexi-O, I'm extremely disappointed with my order. My turquoise Flexi turned out to be made wrong, won't clip, is just completely loose, while the other flexi slides right out of my hair. Should have ordered extra small, but based on reviews, I went with small, my own fault on that. They are beautiful, however not functional and a waste of money for me. This was definitely one of those purchases where I wish I didn't fall into the hype. I'm glad the Flexi's are amazing for loads of people, though! This is just my personal experience.

Theobroma, I agree. I think the May flexi is gorgeous. I've really been trying to phase out the silver-toned stuff but that is just so pretty. But I have to concur with you, Scarlet.... " maybe this just isn't for me" either :) I am still not sure.....

Oh well, being indecisive has saved me plenty of money before!

I am also a lll about headbands at the moment, as my breakage/regrowth from the meds is giving me quite a halo. I know there was some discussion of these awhile back but I can't find it. Anyone who has these - does your hair catch on the beads? For reference, lately my hair catches on almost all my regular flexi's, though usually just one or two hairs. They are all marked shipped and are en route to the sorting facility. Just pray the grace sails through without issues, the rest will have no problems. Last time they got here in about 1.5 weeks, so.. with a bit of luck not this Tuesday but the next, roughly.

Eadwine I'm not even sure anymore lol!! I think my problem is that I know ppl with hair a lot thicker than mine. It just looks super thick bc of the curls....if my hair was straight (which I do straighten it sometimes) i could easily fit all of my hair into a large flexi lol.

So glad to see action shots because I find I'm tempted to get it after all, even though I have misgivings about bright silver and cool tones for my hair. But my nearest and dearest are enabling me by pointing out that my colouring can only become cooler with time, since I have no intention of dyeing my silvers -- and they are, of course, entirely correct! :D

I ordered Compass Rose on the sale because it seems less silver-bright. I think I'll wait and see how it works for me, and then decide whether to take a risk on Grace.

The centerpeice has a shimmer to it, but not over the top. More like a slight iridescent. Definitely a mother of pearl. And there are mother of pearl beads. The also have the same iridescence. If I can be out in the sun today, I will take a few more photos.

It arrived scratch free. It has a small scar in it that looks like it either happened during processing the pearl, or even is a natural mark, I think it adds to the appearance. But no scuff or transit marks at all.

This has been my learning curve, too. I've always gone for warmer-toned things with my earlier coppery/gold hair, but as my whites (and darker browns...) have gained supremacy I've actually got on better with whiter silvers or combining the gold and silver, with gold alone looking a little brassy or off. Much of my jewellery is two-toned now, too, or gold with silver-tracked diamonds. :p As for the Compass Rose, it's one of my neutrals, so a go-to--I hope you love it!

Crystawni, thanks for sharing your experience with silver toys! My silvers are taking their sweet time about coming in, and if my parents are anything to go by I'm never going to end up completely grey, but I do expect my overall colouring to turn noticeably cooler over time, so I guess I'll "age into" any silver toys I acquire along the way! :D

AlyBlu, thanks for those close-ups! They show the beads in particular much more clearly than the website pictures do. I wasn't at all sure whether any of the beads were MOP. I'm liking this clip better and better!

Does anyone have any real life size comparison photos of L, XL, and Mega?

I have thick afro curls....I can tell you...If your hair is anything like that...the large is a lie! I can only do half ups! :(

I thought they were smalls.

Next time I'll get XLarges and Megas unless I want more "accenty" type pieces.

Thank you so much AlyBlu and Adiro!

HappyHair - if your hair is curly and thick you will definitely want a Mega most likely - possible an XL. My hair is thick but straightish and XLs can be a bit of a squeeze - so it is only Megas for me. With curly hair, it is likely it would hold even better with a Mega. ^_^
Only downside is they are so much more expensive than the other Flexis... :(

Dumb question perhaps, but I am an inexperienced guy with no clue. I have been thinking about getting a flexi 8 for ponytails since I thought it might be better for my hair than pony ties plus I quite like the wide ponytail look, but I wasn't sure on the size. My ponytail is about 5 inches plus or minus a bit now that all my hair is comfortably long enough, so I think that would be an L? It says that's for circumferences of 4.75" but I wasn't sure if that was for ponytails or updos. Thanks for helping out a poor noob!

I think L sounds about right, you could also try an M for a tighter fit. My hair does well with an XL on the puffier washed days, and then I can use an L, although I don't usually use flexis as ponytailholders

All flexis are in, no added taxes on the grace, oof!

You can see clearly that the white center bead is in fact not a bead, it is a stone (although I don't know if you can call MOP a stone). It looks just as kapow in my hair as I expected

I haven't read anywhere NEAR the entire thread, but I like what I have seen! It's cool to see pictures of different styles with flexi-8 clips. I have 4 of them myself and am not in the market for more at the moment (ha ha), but I'd like to learn how to make more varied and better hairstyles with the clips I have, so I'll probably look through this thread for at least ideas every now and again. My hair is a few inches below the top of my shoulders, but I know I can still make a few good hairstyles out of that. Right now I usually just do either a French twist type thing or a ponytail. Sometimes when I wear a small with the ponytail, I add an extra small on the half-up site to accentuate it even more.

I have the Princess Tiara Gold in medium, the Brilliant Bluem in small, the Tree of Life Gold in extra-small, and the Sapphire Ice in extra-small. =)

The Lilla Rose order I have been impatiently waiting for!! Woohoo!! My first pair of hair sticks and 2 flexis (1 can hold a half-up and ponytail and other can hold all my hair up). I'm so excited. I'm going to attempt some new styles so I can post some action pics. Any thoughts?

I can wear a French twist (with my medium flexi) when I'm driving, but the ponytail (with the small) seems uncomfortable against the headrest since the ponytail is sticking out more. So, I need to take it off. How do you guys drive/go on car rides when you're wearing your hair up? Do you take it out and then put it up again when you're done driving, or do you make some other adjustments?

I really like the pictures of people with the Grace flexi-8. It looks really pretty. I probably won't get one myself since I'm not in the market for more clips at the moment, but I enjoy looking at your pics. I'm growing my hair to my lower back (it's almost at armpit level right now), so I figure I'll probably need to get a larger size for my hairstyles when my hair is that long. It's cool that they have so many nice designs too, plus the optional customization is a really neat plus too! =D

Well, I was just about to post pics but it's apparently really difficult to do from an iPad. I cant seem to figure out how to copy and paste the entire link. I didn't bother with trying anything fancy with them, in my haste to share the pics of my new pretties. I never appreciated how difficult it is to take a pic of ones own hair. Kudos to all those who have mastered the technique! :applause:

I also have a set of hair sticks but when I looked at the pics on a bigger screen I realized that they're too difficult to see in my hair. I'm loving these the most, though. I'm currently in the processes of picking out another Flexi. I didn't quite know what sizes I needed when I first ordered and so I just guessed. The large isn't big enough to hold all my hair (like in a bun or something similar) so now I'm back on their site picking out an XL. I cant quite decide so I think I'm going to have to get more than 1. My hair toys collection is off to a good start!

Oh dear, if there's another sale coming up I foresee trouble. The mail hasn't even gone out yet (at least I haven't received it) and already I'm finding it impossible to do anything much on the site. Problems loading the page, connection timing out, response speed resembling continental drift, the works. :S

Eeeh, not a big fan of those.. I like the centerpiece a bit, but not the beads. Too plastic'y. They look better in the smaller sizes though. I would expect them to be significantly cheaper than the regular clips, but looks like they're the same price.

Nope, not a fan at all. They just look cheap and plasticky, like Barbie jewellery. Frankly, I wouldn't pay $5 for one of those, let alone the regular Flexi price.

Wondering whether to take advantage of the free shipping offer. I'm tempted by the Grace you-pins, but I'd have to get two sets because I need three for a French twist. Not really sure whether I want them badly enough to shell out $44...

I agree. I just found Flexis (thanks to LHC, of course!) and one of the things I love about them is their classiness (is this a word?). But these look quite cheap. However, I suspect these may be more popular with younger kids. I don't have any kids myself so I can't test this but I imagine these will be more popular with younger Flexi-wearers, maybe?

You make a good point, NicCarpenter. I could see the smaller sizes being popular with little girls, all right! Though it would still be a lot of money to spend on an accessory that's easy for a young child to lose.

The copper rose pins I have are 3" (7.5cm) long. Don't know if all the you-pins are the same size.

I ended up buying two sets, because 2 pins just isn't enough. OTOH, compared to Bijoux Manoel ...

Thanks, Stellaaa! I can now add some information straight from the horse's mouth, as I emailed Flexi with my query and received this reply:

The You Pins that are prefixed UP1 are 8 cm. The ones that are prefixed UP2 are 5 cm.

Luckily, the Grace pins are UP1 (I couldn't cope with 5cm pins!) so I just ordered two sets. :D

I have been shown the error of my ways. :) Compass Rose arrived the other day and has been getting me compliments as being my best Flexi yet. Well... until Grace came!

In contrast, I'm not as fond of the Maltese Cross one. Not quite sure why this one works less well, though it might be due to the beads. But clearly some of the silver styles do work in my colouring. (Yay, just what my credit card needed -- more Flexi options!)
