Take it out slowly and if if you feel any hair got caught, jiggle gently to free it ,don't pull.My guess is an xsmall is rather small for the center of a bun,all I can use my xsmall for, is half ups or a braid end and my hair is not that much longer than yours.
Thanks, I will definitely try to be careful. Now that I am a little more familiar with them, I think I will try a larger size. It was hard to tell which one to get, having now experience with them.:)

I just ordered my first flex8! I got it off their UK shop on ebay. They have a very small range in comparison to the official website, but I just couldnt wait to have one shipped from the US :) I got a large silver one with a dragonfly centerpiece. So excited!

I saw the March special - very cute. a bit of a pity that it's in silver - I love green but am rather less fond of silver, so my acquisitive instincts were not aroused this month. :)

Sorry I didn't have patience to go through the entire thread. I wanted to get a flexi, but I am not sure if I will like it or not or if it will hold my hair well, so I was wondering if they are sold in stores where I could go and try one to see if I like it. I know I can order online and return it if I don't like it, but I am not a fan of online returns.

They do have stalls at faires and festivals sometimes (thread here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=56354)), it might be worth contacting them to ask if they go to any in your area. :)

I love my Flexi-8s! A medium seems to hold my ponytail fairly well (excluding layers and bangs I'm an ii/iii) while an extra-large is about the only thing that will securely and comfortably hold my bun all day in my very slippery, uncooperative hair, even moreso than spin pins. And they are even more beautiful and unique in person than on the site!

Also, I'm thorougly impressed with the customer service of the flexi-8 site, especially the international shipping aspect. Most US websites I've used charge you more for the shipping than the actual product, and it takes at least two weeks to get to New Zealand. My previous record has been about 12 days. Both times I've ordered Flexi-8s, including a custom-made order, it has taken a week to arrive in my mailbox from my initial order, and they only charge a flat rate of $7!

I've been a member for about a year now and never felt the pull to try a flexi 8. But for some reason I started thinking about the way the thing works and all of the styles I could try, and I suddenly decided I had to try some.

So I just placed an order for these two beauties. I wanted to try something simple first (more options as far as outfits and occasions) and then maybe next time I work in some color.

Large, for buns.

Does anyone know how long it takes (on average) an order to go from "waiting" to "shipped" ?

I placed an order through the Flexi8 website last Monday (I live in Finland), for one regular small size flexi, and also for a small special of the month from the Lilla Rose website (using the special order instructions given to me by the Flexi people)....it's been a week and my order it's still "waiting" :(

Hm, how interesting. Did they let you shop from Lilla Rose? I sent a mail a while a go to Lilla Rose and they responded that they wonīt ship to sweden. They said to me to shop only from Flexi8 website.

It's a "special order" but not complicated. Just order something of the same value from the Flexi site (pretend it's item number 1111). Then in the special instructions box in your Flexi order, write something like "please exchange item number 1111 with item 2222 from the Lilla Rose site". Easy :D

Novemberfoxtrot, you need different sizes of flexis for different styles. For example,,my hair is waist and a ii,I use a xsmall for a braid end,and a medium for a half up in a bun,a small for a regular half up[depends on amount of hair pulled from side] and a small for a pony,a xlarge for a french twist and a large for a lazywrap bun. Before you send it back, try different styles with it to see if it would fit with any of them .

I just ordered two, XL for buns and XS for pinning back bangs/half up. I tried a large one some time ago and couldn't make it work, it pulled if I could close it at all. I hope I will have better luck with the XL. That would be great since I need to retire pointy sticks, forks and other not baby/toddler friendly stuff soon for a while. Flexi's are a lot more affordable than ficcares :).

dulce
March 13th, 2012, 12:23 PM
Eshta, you might try that large in a half up in a bun,or a ponytail or a twisted tails up or some other styles that don't incorporate all your hair, obviously the large is too small for your buns[you have too much hair volume for that clip size for full buns] etc. You have very thick hair.I am a ii only and I need a large for a french twist and a xlarge for a lazywrap bun.The nice thing about flexis is you need different sizes for different styles so that large is not a waste, just use it for a different style. You need to experiment till you discover which styles require what sizes for you.

Okay very disappointing again. The Four Leaf Clover is out in xsmall and small. Lila Rose said they won't be getting any back in stock. What is so upsetting this keeps happening the November special did not even last 3 days and now the Four leaf clover did not last 12 days. So anyone who gets paid on the second week of the month is out of luck. I really dislike when they offer a special and it won't even last two weeks. Is there any consultant out their that has the monthly special in small? Just please PM me.

I called up Lila Rose and they said they won't be getting anymore in. I just think it plain wrong to offer a monthly special and it doesn't even last two weeks. How can they say it a Monthly Special at all.:( Just call it a special if you are quick enough to get it. This is not fair to anyone of their customers.

Maybe you can put it on a credit card at the beginning of the month and pay it off 2 weeks later when you get paid?I thought Lilla Rose only accepts credit card payments as a means of paying?I've always paid by a credit card as I didn't see any other option offered.

I KNOW this has been probably asked before, but I don't know what size to get, and flexi-8's are way in my price range. I am VERY fine haired, but my ponytail is about 3 inches around (not including the entire front hair from my ears to my face that I can't get into anything. :/
Should I get a small or a medium for buns?
Also, have you noticed using a flexi-8 at the end of a braid is less damaging than an elastic?

Flexis are hard to size, (much harder than Ficcares ;)) because there are so many sizes and so many different ways you can use them. Most people with flexi-8s it would seem, have them in a couple of different sizes. I know it may be seen as extravagant, but they are not expensive hairtoys at least.
For example I have a mini (half-ups, braid tassels), extra small (middle of bun only holding and ponytails ) and small (holding most/all of my current size bun).
My guess is that you would need a small for ponytails or holding the centre of a bun (like the nautilus or lazy wrap for example) and a medium for something like a cinnabun. HTH :blossom:
They really are the most awesome hairtoys. Post pics when you order please. :)

Also my latest flex updo- The braided Nautilus. (looks more like a cinnabun shape in this pic, but it is a braided Nautilus, I swear! :D)

I think a small would be too small to secure buns for you. A medium might work for some buns, but if you're only getting one for now, and you want to be able to do buns with it, I guess I'd recommend a large.

My ponytail is about 3.5 inches around (and my hair tends to fluff up) and I mostly use my S for half-ponies, though I can also use it for a snug ponytail. I use a M for a folded braid, a log roll, or a less-snug ponytail, a L for a nautilus bun or a folded braid folded more times, and an XL for bigger buns (but I find it heavy, so for the moment I mostly use it for a braided Chinese bun so the weight is distributed).

There are some nice flexi-8 tutorials here (http://www.youtube.com/user/frambuesa55?feature=watch), which show how different styles work with different size flexi's.

I have waist hair,a ii,and i use a xsmall at my braid end,a small for a pony,a medium for a half up in a bun,a small for a half up in an elongated bun with tail loose[pic above], a large for french twist,a xlarge for lazywrap bun,a medium for twisted tails up.The great thing about flexis is once you play with them [check out utube for flexi 8 clip/Lilla Rose styles],you find different styles require different sizes so you can always find a style to fit one ,even if you bought it for a bun and it's too small..They never break so that alone makes them worth every penny in my opinion.

dulce
March 14th, 2012, 10:10 AM
My guess is a large or xlarge if you want to cover your entire bun,if you place it only in the center maybe a medium?

I just received my order and I'm a bit bummed... The mini worked for a half-up if I pull back less hair than usual and my ex-small will only work for half-ups and braid ends.

It looks like I'll just have to order one of every size except the mega to see which one fits... This is both a good and a bad thing :D (Dear wallet, please forgive me...)

For reference, the last time I measured, my ponytail was between 2 5/8" and 3" but I think that I'll measure again later...

dulce

Small, xsmall and medium, and large seem to be the most versatile sizes for regular thickness ,long but not super long hair.

Thanks for the tips, I actually took the measuring tape this time... (I used to use my fingers, a string and other things and transpose on a ruler.)

I ended up with 3.5, 3.75 and 4 depending on how tight I pulled the tape.

I guess that I should get a medium for ponytails (though, a small might work too, but if it doesn't, I end up with another half-up holder...) and large for up-dos.

I have hair somewhere between hip and waist length... It's actually too long for me to easily do french twists. (My buns also tend to fall apart from the weight after a couple of hours if I use bobby pins.)

My lovelies came today! It was a good day because I also hennaed.

The only thing I'm sad about is that I bought the large hoping I could use it to secure my French braid bun, but alas, it is too small for that. I need to figure out if a XL or a Mega would be more suitable for that purpose.

I've been thinking of getting a couple of flexi's lately since my hair is finally long enough to to something with! Since I'd be shipping to sweden I'd like my order to be very long term. I'm sure one Extra small and a Small will do well for now, but since I'm aspiring towards longer hair I'm also thinking of ordering a Medium.

Do you think I should or is it a potential money waste? Will a Small be able to contain most of my hair even once it grows down my back since it's so thin (ca 2.1" circumference)? Should it be 1 Extra small, 1 Small and 1 Medium, or 1 Extra and 2 Smalls? :)

Thank in advance!

Ps. Maybe I should ad that I prefer hairdo's that contain all my hair (like the french twists or buns) rather than half-ups and ponytails.

I have an XL Tree of Life (http://www.flexi8.com/1631.html?id=hjvr43pZ) coming my way. Not too crazy about the tree, but I loved that the beads were all pearls. I think it will look elegant holding a French braid bun (like in my avatar).

It's hard to be sure, but my experience of flexi's is that having a variety of sizes is nice. For different updos I use three different sizes. My recommendation would be to go for the medium.

Did you ever get to purchase the flexi8 you wanted? I see they are back in stock.

I have been checking everyday on the flexi8 Monthly Special for March in small. And have called them two times and they keep saying they will not back order. Curlsgalore thanks for the helping in checking the site.:) Dulce what bothers me is this keeps on happening to the monthly special at Lila Rose. I also tried finding a consult that might have one and no luck. And having Flexi8 website make me one would increase the price of the small.

I've had several made custom and it's only $1-$3 more[depends on size and intricacy.]Not bad for a solid silver clip that will never break and last pretty much forever.Sometimes it's worth it if that's the only way.I've learned after initially losing out last November not to wait ,I always order the first day [credit card] if I like the monthly special.Sadly I don't think the selling out problem will improve.

Practise! Try different styles with different size clips. If it pulls ,it could be too tight[clip too small] or too big and heavy[clip too large] for your hair.

I've had similar problems. The best and most comfortable way I can wear them is to twist the sides and use them as a ponytail holder (there is a pic in my album). Other than that I have a heck of a time getting them to stay in and getting them to stay without pulling...good luck!

I need to know what size to order to use for half-ponies and braid ends. My hair is on the lighter side of medium thickness and just shy of waist length :). I need an extra-large to fully encompass my bun :p. A large works for half-ups or french twist type dos. I'm wearing a medium for a pony holder but might be able to get away with a small (if I had very fine, stick straight hair, the medium would probably slide down my pony) ;). What do you experts recommend :o? TIA :D

Like you, I wear a medium to hold a ponytail, and I can also squeeze my pony into a small. I chiefly use my small for half-ponies. I have a mini on hand that I'm giving my Mom to restrain her bangs when they get shaggy between haircuts, and I've experimented with securing a braid end with it. I'll probably get another mini for myself, though I'm still a bit undecided because somehow I'm not crazy about how it looks at the end of my braid. Not sure exactly why. Maybe I should leave a bit longer tassle.

I have, too. I had to file the slide of my large flexi-8 to get it smooth, and that was back when they were all 'hand-made' so I'm not sure how it slipped through. Bit of a shame really, as getting rid of the snag meant losing the silver finish at that end too. :(

I have, too. I had to file the slide of my large flexi-8 to get it smooth, and that was back when they were all 'hand-made' so I'm not sure how it slipped through. Bit of a shame really, as getting rid of the snag meant losing the silver finish at that end too. :(

That is a shame. I wonder if there might be some sort of metallic paint that would cover that sort of thing. Though if there is such a paint you might not want it near your hair.

You could always get yourself an electroplating set-up so you could fix that one hair toy! :D

I got a Flexi 8 several months ago and I have been struggling to learn how to use it as no matter what bun I try I can not get it to hold. I did however manage to figure out how to use my Flexi 8 for nautilus buns today, and here is the resulting bun, or well a picture of it. :P

I noticed that the metal beads that the stick rests on were quite sharp and a bit jagged so I took a nail file to them. Has anyone else had to do this or did those bits on mine miss a step in the finishing process?
That happened to me once -- after I filed the sharp piece, the flexi was fine. I have a lot of flexis (soon to be "a lot" plus 2) and that was the only one with that problem.

My first Flexi-8 came in the mail today. It is so lovely and feels so well made! The only problem is that since I still have various razored-in layers that range from around chin-earlobe length, I can't use it to put all of my hair up. I think maybe another month or two and I will be good to go with at least the tails-up or whatever they call it. I have a feeling these are going to be an addiction!

UP Lisa, get the right size for the style you are wearing.Different styles require different sizes.New western flexi styles and a "cut cross" flexi [not sure what that means] are making an appearance soon.

Caiti42,just use that small as a braid end or as half up or half up in a small bun or tails up,the great thing about flexis is you can use them in different styles.

My hair is f and a ii and about 31-32 inches now[like yours] I use a xsmall for a french braid end and also a half up,a small or medium[depends how much hair I pull from side] for half up in a bun, and a small for pony, and a large for french twist and I use an xlarge for my lazywrap bun,not sure what style you were trying to do but I do use an xlarge for some styles so it might be possible you need one for some styles..

So I'm a bit depressed. The only thing my small flexi 8 is good for is french twist. I need to buy three more sizes to do all the styles I want. I need at least a medium for a bun, an extra small for a ponytail, a mini for a half up, which sucks. :(

None of my Grahtoes have broken. But my flexis have shown signs of wear in different ways; the connections loosen, some of the hooks begin to show and catch hairs. Sure, they're not broken, but they're not perfect either.

You're lucky , I have broken several buffalo horn forks and wood forks as I'm a klutz, when twisting my hair into a bun and then inserting my forks , somehow they have dropped to the bathroom tile floor.I've dropped flexis several times too,so far no damage. So am now switching to metal hair forks and metal hair toys due to my klutziness.

Venefica

I have not broken any of my hairsticks from any seller or brand yet, knock on wood, I have nicked one and bumped another so it needed minor repairs, but nothing major so far. You can be unlucky with any hair toy, including flexi 8's. But if what you are looking for is something unbreakable I think perhaps your best bet would be a Lady Idun acrylic hairstick. You can scratch it and dent it but unless you are actively trying to destroy it I doubt that you will break it.

I wanted to share a way of making a flexi fit when it's just a little too big. I tried uploading some pictures but got an error message, so I will have to describe it instead.

Take a ponytail holder -- I used one made from a section of children's tights -- and wrap it around and around the middle of the "pin" portion of the flexi. Then use the modified flexi for a ponytail or a half-up (styles where you don't need the pin to be thin). The ponytail holder will fill in some of the space between the pin and the "8" so that less hair is required.

My fix does not make a huge difference in size, but it may help those who are in between sizes. In my case, a medium flexi is too tight for a ponytail, and a large is sometimes a little loose, but doing this fix to a large makes it just the right size.

If they're too big for your ponytail they practically HAVE to be OK for a centre-held bun -- perhaps you should just experiment with how you insert the pin? I can get even a medium to hold a nautilus for me, though I do need an XL if I'm trying to cover my entire bun!

I am finding my hair is a bit too slippy for buns while using the flexi, have I got the wrong size? Or will my hair grow into it? It can hold my tail of a french braid when folded, easily, might stick with that so I can show it off. I refuse to let my mum take it off me :P.

I had doubts about it too but before ordering i took a barette similar size to the mini flexi-8 and if the ends closed like the flexi it would have held like a rock. If it were an x-small it would probably slip out but for my thickness the mini is perfect. I can't say that about everybody though. There's some people who would lose this in a heartbeat and some people who couldn't even get the bar through the cage because their hair is too thick.

Sounds like it would work. Good news is they are much cheaper than their larger counterparts (11 dollars vs. the 21 i paid for the XL) and are pretty easy to sell. On top of that the people at flexi-8 supposedly have an amazing return/exchange policy so if there is a size that works better for you, more likely than not you'll be able to exchange it.

Side note: The mini as a braid holder makes a good weapon to whip your SO in the face with >.>

Yes,they are great for exchanges, I bought a mega clip[what was I thinking!]I use flexis only for my braid ends,if it fits well it won't come off.I use a mini for a down my back, french braid end ,a mini for an over the shoulder front braid end,and a xsmall for a regular braid down my back.

Side note: The mini as a braid holder makes a good weapon to whip your SO in the face with >.>

Dh is sort-of pushing me towards signing on to be a consultant. I know I lot of women, and today was my first time wearing my clip out and I got a lot of comments.

I think it's a little funny that when you order them online they send you a card saying where to go to become a consultant. On one hand i wish they had a deal with a chain like how ficcare is with nordstroms but on the other i'm glad they are a small business and provide jobs for those who have the means to be a consultant. You should totally go for it but only if you know a lot of women willing to pay for it. I know a lot of people who would like one but only a handful that would pay full price for one lol

I didn't know you could find Ficcare at Nordstroms, I will have to go take a look, just to satisfy my curiosity.

I was thinking that even if I don't have much luck selling, I would get the kit which has 5 clips for $49, not too shabby I think. And the occasional discount can't hurt either.

One tip I found, leave a fairly long tassel when you finish a braid with a flexi, looks nicer and makes it more secure.

Yeah, they just have plain/simple ones but if you want a basic one for the shape more than the appearance. There's somewhere else online you can get them too but i don't remember.. its not headgames, it's listed on the hair toys list though. Flexi-8 kits/multiple packs?????

Yeah i found that earlier after readjusting my braid a few times today because my dang layers kept poking out something fierce.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that last night with my small, unfortunately I'm definitely going to need an xs or mini for that purpose.

http://www.lillarose.biz/BeautifulLife/become-a-consultant.html According to the website, if you buy the party kit for $49.99, they send you a kit that includes 5 flexi clips, I'm assuming one of each size. I'm going to look into if they allow you to select the styles. If they do, it wouldn't be a bad deal to get 5 flexis of your choice for $10/each, even if the business didn't work out.

As for the Ficcare resale website, someone mentioned stone cottage in another thread. omg I just looked over there...right now I can take or leave the Ficcare, but owie there are some other pretties over there...Allegro Hair forks anyone? yummy. DH was cool with the flexis because they came out of my budget and he thinks they are practical. He's going to start giving me funny looks if I order anything else for my hair though. 4 years of mostly neglecting my hair ends with a crazy hair accessory shopping spree?

Now i'm looking into becoming a consultant >.> is it difficult? I'm gonna in alabama this summer which may provide some more business opportunity than the poverty stricken town in which i currently reside. What all does it consist of to be a consultant??

I have no clue! I've shared as much research as I've done on the subject. Why not send an email or give them a call? (And share what you learn! I'm moving in a month so I'm not doing anything til July most likely.

Yeah the website says the starter kits prices but it doesn't really tell you how the selling process will work. I understand the fairs kit obviously you set up and sell them at the fair but what about the 5 piece kit? Or the ones where people have to actually order the flexis through you? I'd just hate for it to be as hard to do as mary kay =\

If I had to guess, you can probably do it both ways. What I'd do is set up a website using their service, then make some simple business cards, hand them out when people ask about the clips, and then you don't have to worry about handling money or calculating shipping. I might handle the occasional order for family and friends, that's about it.

I'm basing this on this page: http://www.lillarose.biz/BeautifulLife/start-selling-now.html

Neither do I. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. I find that taking the time to save and plan for a purchase ensures that it really is something that I want, and not just an impulse buy because of a good price.

Even though lilla rose may not have anymore on their site you can check with some lilla rose consultants who may have the earrings in stock. That's how I got my discontinued celtic cross earrings and celtic cross necklace which were discontinued on the lilla rose site.

I just placed an order for my first Flexi8s! I know my hair isn't very long but I can do some tail ups with the minis. I'm totally blaming lapushka for being my enabler, she gave me the link!

Another flexi newbie in need of size help!
I have APL very fine slippery hair, 2.2"-2.4" circumference. I'm going to purchase the mini for half ups, and XS for a pony/small updos.
But do I need a Small or Medium for buns & a french twist? Should I just get them both & possibly grow into the medium?

Also, how on earth do you decide which style to get in each size!? :disbelief
