Hahaha, Guiditta, I thought I was the only one who bought a Flexi "on spec" when my hair was way too short to wear it! It's this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=5812&pictureid=108432) one - now my favorite Flexi cos it's so pretty - it seemed to take forrreeeevvveerrr before my hair was finally long enough to use it, but the time did finally come! :cheese:

What a pretty Flexi! And no, you're far from being the only one -- I treated myself to a couple of XLs several months ago and I've only just grown into them! That's what free shipping periods will do to me... :D

There are plusses and minuses with both Flexi8 and LillaRose. Flexi8 plusses - (1) they will ship overseas, (2) they offer the discounts and/or occasional free shipping promotions. LillaRose plusses - they offer a larger variety (most items in all sizes), and there are some Flexi's available through LillaRose that aren't available through the regular Flexi8 site.

Hmm, so that means that LillaRose will not ship overseas?

Speaking as a European, I'm pathetically grateful that the main Flexi site will make customs using centres etc. otherwise unavailable except on LillaRose. I'd be quite bereft if some of those designs were available only to US residents!

No, LillaRose won't ship overseas - but an individual LillaRose consultant may work with overseas buyers in order to get them their orders.

I wouldn't recommend the one with red beads - the colors might not work out with your hair. I would definitely recommend the one with green beads, and I personally like the one with sun and moon - I wish it were available in gold...:p
I have an extra small one in the style with green beads. I haven't taken any pics with it yet, but if you wait a day or two I can take a pic and post it, so that you will be able to see how that style looks in my hair. :)

I was wondering that about the red one, i love the green one but then as you know i just :crush: green:p If i wanted a flexi for an half up ponytail and i now need a large for a bun would i need a small?

Here are 2 updo ideas i use a flexi8 for putting through a French or Dutch braid and wrap the tail round and pin or for a figure 8 bun or Gibraltar bun.

A few pictures:

XXL and mini:
http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/Lianna333/Hair/Hair%20up/Imag3016.jpg

I bought the XXL (aka mega) for when my hair is longer, but I can still make it work with the looped ponytail.

Large and small:
http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/Lianna333/Hair/Hair%20up/Imag3024.jpg

The large is a little loose on a ponytail and a little tight on the french twist, but both work, the pony doesn't fall (XL is too loose for twist). I also made a folded ponytail with it, and that feels perfect, because I have layers (by choice) the ends are thinner.

The other flexis I've posted before (it was just a bun with XL and half-ups with XS).

bunzfan I don't know how helpful these action pictures will be since my hair color is different from yours but I just thought to upload it for your reference.

http://i56.tinypic.com/2r5g6dh.jpg

I tried very hard to get the right shade in the picture but it is really tough to capture. The green doesn't really come out right in my pictures. Actually, there are action shots of the native filigree in this thread. I remember someone asking if the jade beads look plastic-ky and someone was nice enough to post pictures. I thought it was Isa-belle but I can't find pictures of a native filigree in her album  Perhaps I remembered wrongly.

For the emerald Flexi (your first link), you may want to check out Isa-bella's album for an action shot. Again, her hair color is different so you may not get an exact feel for the Flexi.

I have the Native inspired filigree with jade beads (XL size). It's become one of my favourites. Not cheap-looking at all. The jade beads are veined with pale red - they do not look plasticky at all, if that is what you are afraid about.

 Wow, this bun is really ginormous!!
A very pretty Flexi. I haven't really considered those jade beads in a Flexi myself - I prefer golds, and those beads seemed really pale.
I have had great luck with the metallic-green beads, though - here is a picture! :D

It is, isn't it!? :( I ended up ordering almost all the sizes that Flexi8 had to offer in 3 separate orders because I kept getting my sizing wrong. It doesn't look like that much hair when it's down, but whenever I out it into a bun, it ends up eating my head. I'm growing out layers and my bangs too so I'm not sure how it'll look when I get to goal.

And only recently, after seeing Theobroma's action shots and a few other LHC's large Flexi in action, I realized that I could have been using a Large in LWBs or other center-held buns. My fingers hurt whenever I try to force the pin into the Flexi when I use large for LWB though, so I prefer using the larger sizes for convenience.

You're absolutely right! The metallic greens really do look good in your hair! They stand out well against the color of your hair. Now I understand what you mean when you said green is a better choice over red  its true that the jade beads in the native filigree is pale. The emerald is comparatively more striking that's for sure :D

I remember this picture. :)

Thanks Lianna!! :p I thought I was going senile! Looks like Isa-bella made a deep impression on us with that one ;)

Sometimes I just push the outer parts of a bun to the sides to use a smaller flexi in the middle. The bigger one is more confortable, though it doesn't look too great yet, I need to fill it more, but my hair is short still so I'm not worried.

And yes, Isa-bella did make a deep impression on me, LOL. I found that bun sooo beautiful when I first looked at it. :)

I think you probably will. My circ is 3" too and despite severe taper, my cinnabun is already filling out an XL well enough to make for a stable updo. (There's a pic in my album somewhere.) I use a large for pencil/nautilus buns and lazy wraps.

Flexis in two different colors of green! I did not entirely like this arrangement - the thin upper braid did not want to be tucked in behind the lower loops - it looks a bit messy!

My hair is similar to the straight hair girl with hair below shoulder in the video. So now I need a small for ponytails, a medium for french twists and an extra small for half ups...

Can't wait till I have a bit of budget for it. And the international shipping costs are not outrageoous like Ficcare.

Also, Flexi does "free shipping" promotions on occasion, and the free shipping applies worldwide! Also be aware that there's a discount code you can enter to get, I think, 10% off. (I forget what the code is, but if you nose around this thread a bit you'll find it.)

Ooooh, those are pretty! and such lovely updos, too! I really like that second one - that is a knot bun - or comet bun - isn't it, with its tail pinned down? I don't think my hair would let me get away with that updo, it is so d*mn slippery. I use the Flexis a lot with braids, though. Okay, so I have a silly question but I cannot keep my medium flexi-8 to stay in my hair myself. Others will do a bun and put it in there and it holds, but I can't do it myself. It just is super loose. I've watched tutorials and it looks so easy. Any tricks? Thanks! :D

Theobroma
August 31st, 2011, 09:51 AM
racrane, if you can get a hairstick to hold a centre-held bun like a Nautilus or Lazy Wrap, then you should be able to do the same with a Flexi. Just insert the pin in exactly the way you would a hairstick, and then slide the pin through the loop of the Flexi. If anything, it should hold more firmly than a hairstick because of the figure-eight loop that'll clamp down over the top of the bun and provide extra stabilty!

I am wearing an Extra small in the picture and my hair is very thin, I think you would need a small with your hair thickness....

Oh thanks:)

That looks so beautiful in your shiny red hair:) If i want one for small half up's do you think i would need a extra small?

I think you could probably use an extra small, if you prefer small half ups. My hair is just barely iii, and I'd prefer an extra small for half ups, my small needs a little bit more hair than I like for a half up.

I just got my first flexi. I ordered a size medium but it almost seems too small. My hair is ASL and fine but somewhat thick. I'm only doing peacock twists and modified french twists right now... But I can't seem to believe that I would really need a size large. Anyone else find the medium to be too small even for SL or ASL hair?

1) Gorgeous updos!
2) If you do, I'd keep your favourite one. You might find later there are other styles which work great with a medium size. :) I have one in every size except Mini, and while my Small and Medium don't see a lot of action, when they do I don't really have any other toys which would work for that updo.

I have ordered a Flexi 8 and we will see if it can make me into a believer. If this sucker can hold my rather thick bun then I will be amazed, but from people's reviews it seams it should so I thought I had to try, and besides this hairtoy was to pretty to pass up.

I was sort of on the fence for the simple, black beads, look like hematite ones, however I figured I have spent way, way to much on hair toys lately so I could not afford that right now, and besides I want to see how these clips work for my hair first.

julierockhead, have you seen the flexis on the Lilla Rose site (http://www.lillarose.biz/marci/?id=D8qy8YLh)? They are a little bit different from the flexis on flexi8.com (http://www.flexi8.com/). Some people here have also made their own on the epic self made hairtoys thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131).

I have never made a flexi, but I do not think it should be so hard, a bit of jewelry wire, some beads, a few crimps and thongs and a stick. If you want to make this type of hair toy I think that should be fairly easy, and in fact it might be a good starter for people wanting to get into hairtoy making.

Ive been a busy gal tonight! I have discussed problem hair with a friend - my friend's daughter (6-8 years old) has 3B/FC F i hair (my friend has about 1c/2a i/ii hair) so I did a bit of demonstrating on Embla's (the girl's) hair tonight. So I did a lace crown braid on my friend's daughter's hair. :D The bait was, "Princess hair". Which is what she got.:queen: And she was delighted! :D
I also made a couple of suggestions for my friend - one was trying out the Flexi-8 as a hairtoy for her daughter (and herself, too, perhaps!), another was trying out CO washing and coconut oil.
A good day's enabling, IMO!

The bold indicates that the flexi is too big for the updo. If you're already gathering all your hair inside the flexi, you need a smaller size. If not, you just need to keep adding hair until the flexi is snug.

When I put my hair into a half up, it really is a bit too small for the smallest Flexis I have (extra smalls) so I make little loops, which make the updos prettier, and also hold the braids/dos in place like this - this is today's do - I just gathered part of my hair at the crown made two English braids from there, looped them and fastened with a Flexi. :)

I'm not sure what hairstyle she's trying to do, so I assumed a simple bun. We can always adapt when the flexi is smaller, like using it on part of the bun (or just center), or gather less hair for the half-up. That's what I do.

Flexi-8 woes! I feel like all of my flexi-8s are useless :p My medium is too large to hold a ponytail; what kind of buns can I do with it? My large is too small to look good with a cinnabun - I actually took a picture but it's so ridiculously squished I don't want to show you ;) I can do a ponytail with my small one and half-ups with the extra smalls, but I'm kind of clueless as to what kind of updos I can do, and how to hold them. I guess I need some tips. I'm having a hard time getting a lazy wrap bun to hold..

Also, would an X-large be too large for my cinnabun, then? *ponder* For reference, my circ is 3.5-4" depending on how clean me hair is and position on my head, the length is as described to the left and I have layer-taper (one layer at APL). Wah.

If the medium is too large for a ponytail and the large too small for a cinnabun, one of them is surely the right size for a nautilus bun? I love the nautilus bun.

My first flexi8 came in the mail this week. It is my first LHC hair-toy. I really love it even though the heart is tilted a little bit to one side, probably from the shipping. It is an xsmall and I use it for 'tailsup' and it isn't sliding out of my halfup so I am excited about that. Xsmall is definitely my size, maybe one day I will need a small for buns.

Here is a picture (excuse my old bleach ends I will trim 1/2 inch at the end of the month)

So I think I'm finally giving in and buying a couple Flexis. :joy: I thought about getting a small for ponytails and a large for cinnabons, but given that my pony circumference is 4" and my cinnabons have a diameter a little over 5", it seems like I'd be better off with a medium and an XL, I think? Does that sound right?

If so, I'm nabbing this one http://www.flexi8.com/0315.html?id=WSyKLaoq and this one http://www.flexi8.com/0979.html?id=WSyKLaoq

Sometimes I do a few very small rope braids in front and then pull them back to meet behind my head, I'm kinda tempted to grab XS for that... but I'm trying really, really hard to resist adding anything else to my cart!

I'm kind of excited, the extent of my hair toy ownership right now is a pair of pretty chopsticks and an awesome huge flower clip. So this is a big hair step for me, that will hopefully encourage me to learn a few more updos! :D

remeasured hair, it's actually gotten thicker, I assume less breakage. Measured 3.4 and squeezed it into a small then had difficulty getting it back out as I had a hard time compressing hair enough to get it to release. I did measure it pressed snugly together..... but still cannot imagine getting 4 inches of hair into a small.

remeasured hair, it's actually gotten thicker, I assume less breakage. Measured 3.4 and squeezed it into a small then had difficulty getting it back out as I had a hard time compressing hair enough to get it to release. I did measure it pressed snugly together..... but still cannot imagine getting 4 inches of hair into a small.

My ponytail is ~3,9 inches. A small is not big enough, but the medium is a little bit loose, and slides down a little. Very annoying. But your 3,4 inch ponytail fits a medium? I am confused, my hair is not even slippery...

I'm wearing one of my large flexi's today. I had a hard time putting it in, maybe my hair is too thick? Or I could just be doing it wrong. Here is a pic, the flexi is wonky and my bun is sloppy. I'm going to keep trying to work with it.

I'm still trying to figure out how pepperminttea gets 3.8 inches of hair into a small for a ponytail. The medium for me fits well, my hair is coarse enough I don't have a slippage issue. Well, unless I use a high cone conditioner. I may also have less slippage as I wear the medium for a low pony and so hair is not naturally trying to pull out of it. Will admit if it was any bigger I would have a slippage issue, but going up even half an inch in circumference is a huge difference. I've ended up using the smalls for pulling back just part of my hair. Perhaps when I measure I compress my hair more or it's naturally more springy and so pushes out more? My big question after seeing some of them is what size should I get if I want all my hair up. I'm guessing an extra large but wish I knew someone close by so I could test it out

I guess there is a difference in hair types and volume, mine is pretty fine. I pressed about "medium hard", when I measured. I think it could be 3.8 if I pressed really hard. I have a lot of fine hairs, so there might be more air and less substance than for coarser hair, making the flexi sit looser.

Bunzfan: they look lovely in your hair. What center does the blue one have? Hard to see. And what size are they?

I just just ordered an XL and a mini flexi-8, I wanted something simple:

http://www.flexi8.com/1963.html?id=BwZwngns

http://www.flexi8.com/1943.html?id=BwZwngns

They will be the 5th and 6th edition to my collection. I will now have one of every size, exept a mega. Mini as a clip, XS and small for half ups, medium for ponytail (it`s a bit loose though), large for french twist and XL for updoes.

I bought my first two flexi-8s a few months ago, and I'm pretty much in love with them. :D Aside from the fact that they're so pretty, the Equilibrium Bun has become pretty much my go-to style lately, and with the Flexi-8 it holds like a rock! I should probably experiment with more styles (or buy more pretties to vary the look of that one bun) but I'm really happy with these things!

Hey, quick question for you guys -
a few weeks ago I bought my first flexi8 at a local festival (I saw them and remembered seeing how much people here liked them so I thought I'd give it a shot - I bought this one (https://secure.lillarose.biz/MemberToolsDotNet/%28S%28s3eqqrocxz0xsfqn3oo44qxf%29%29/ShoppingCartNew/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=17944&CatalogueID=204&PartyID=0&PartyGuestID=0&InternalUse=1&ProductGroupString=67.78)) and now I'm a convert. Instantly fell in love.

Now I'd like to buy one to wear over a bun, but I'm not sure what size to get. The one I bought is an extra small and works well for a half-up but is too small for a pony tail. My hair is maybe 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch shy of being waist length. I'm thinking I should get the large size but I'm worried about buying it and having it be too big. Any advice for me?

Anyway, thanks for always posting your hair toys! I love looking at them and it gives me great ideas of what to do with my own hair since I always seem to have a hard time finding decent accessories.
Thanks!

I think a large would be to small to cover a bun, unless you're on the thinner side of ii or have a lot of taper. My XL is too small to cover a bun at hip, with ii/iii thickness.

Depends what bun styles you want to make. If you want to use a Flexi to cover your entire bun, I second what the previous poster said about a large possibly not being big enough. But for centre-held styles like LWB and Nautilus or pencil buns, a large or even a medium should work perfectly well.

I third the comment about your beautiful hair and Flexi!

I have used a Flexi to tie off a braid. It has sometimes resulted in the Flexi falling off. I prefer to make a loop and hold the loop with the Flexi, which I do immediately after braiding, or to make a bun of each braid or clip each braid to the other's base.

Aqua Gal
October 13th, 2011, 04:27 PM

I'm somewhere in the wurly/curly range and have had no problems in that regard. I think the worst that can happen is that you get a centre with a sticking-out bit (like the body of a butterfly or dragonfly) that might be slightly detained by a stray lock of hair as you're taking the clip out, but unless you're actually yanking it out roughly I can't see that sort of thing doing any damage. I've never had a Flexi with a sharp edge on it anywhere.

I found to tie off a braid down the back with a flexi I use a small size if I do a very long tassel, hair is thicker higher up and with a short braid and long tassel, it doesn't move all day.Check that you have the flexi at the right spot by trying to pull it down ,if it doesn't move with the pressure you have it.If I want a longer braid I use a mini to tie it off, again doing the pressure test to make sure I got in the right spot. Have worn it like this a lot and so far no problems.

dulce
October 15th, 2011, 08:25 AM
I also have curly hair, the beads are not a problem but the dangles move around and get in the way, pretty but annoying.

Good point about the dangles. I have one Flexi with dangles and haven't had any issues with them catching in my curls... but now that you mention it the only style I've ever worn that Flexi in is a French twist, where all the curls are safely contained and don't offer the dangles any opportunities to get snarled in them!

I got the bird and the dragonfly centers at Michael's. The other center is a peacock and it is my understanding that it will be available soon. I just happened to ask if they had one and I sent in the beads I wanted to go with it. It is so much prettier in person. The beads are a combination of green/blue/silver. I sent in most of the beads for my customs. Thanks!

I've had them switch the centerpieces so I could have the beads from another one, but I didn't know that they would take materials that you provide for them and make one out of that.

Thanks you two, there are lots of matching inexpensive earrings[ and many with free shipping] on ebay to match many flexis,I found typing in themes on ebay search eg. xmas earrings, halloween ,celtic cross / knot ,tinkerbell fairy earrings etc. gave me the best results.

My Flexi-8's arrived in today's mail! Wheeeeee!!!

I got a medium and a large, because I wasn't sure about sizing. I've found that the medium will just hold my hair in a French twist. But, when I took it out again, several strands were trapped in between the beads and it was only because I was being cautious that I didn't rip them out. Is this common? Or was I stretching the flexi too hard?

I can save the medium for less hair uses and use the large for bigger things...

As well as ebay, Lilla Rose inc.also sells the filligree scrollhearts ,celtic cross, etched lily, simple danglie and princess tiara earrings, matching flexis and matching necklaces.Really pretty sets!

Discovered another hiccup with my new Flexi-8's. The little bent "arms" that hold the center medallion on are open in the middle. Over the course of the day, a bunch of hairs worked their way in and I couldn't get it off! DBF had to come and help me coax them out, since I couldn't see what I was doing - and I still lost a couple. DBF is gonna seal it up with some of his modeling epoxy but is this the standard construction?

I hope this is not the wrong place to ask, but as I can see many of you have successfully managed to understand the intricacies of flexi-8 sizing... what size would you recommend for hip length, 2c/F/smack in the middle of ii hair? (my hair, actually). I just can't figure it, I suppose that either a small or a medium, but in no way can I reach a decision.

I intend to use the flexi as a bun holder, mostly nautilus bun, as it's my go-to bun, but if possible also french twists, cinnabuns and such. Also, as my wurls stretch out easily if I even look at them, I wouldn't take them into much consideration.

This (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=4821&pictureid=116839) is my hair as of a week or so ago, but if you feel so inclined and want to see the real texture and how big some updos are on me, I have more photos on my albums. Be warned that my head is kind of small, though.

Narya,I use a xlarge for my full lazywrap bun,I also have ii thickness and fine but am shorter[ 30 inches with layers] ,so my guess is mega for full bun and xlarge for french twist[I use large for my french twist]and a medium for half up.If the size you order is not right for you they are awesome for exchanges and returns. The mega is quite a bit larger than the xlarge,I know as I ordered one and had to return it,hope it won't be too big for you.

If you want to do a full bun, you should go with a large or maybe XL. I had a medium that just barely held a bun on my super thin, fine BSL hair. A small or XS should work for you if you want to do a pony or a half-up with it.

You can always exchange/return them if they don't fit. They're pretty good about that like how dulce said.

If "smack in the middle of ii" is a 3" circumference, then we have very similar hair, though my taper might be more severe than yours. Anyway, for whatever it's worth, I use a large Flexi for Nautilus and lazy wrap buns and for a French twist. It's a tight fit for the French twist, though, and I may soon be moving up to XL for that. I'm already using XL for cinnabuns. I can make a ponytail with either a small or a medium.

Hope this helps you!

Thank you dulce, kwaniesiam and Theobroma! I'm glad I asked because it seems I was very wrong in my calculations. I have quite a bit of taper, and as what I do most are nautilus buns, I think I'll go for a large. Maybe I can get a medium, a large and an XL, try them and then use the two worse-fitted as a Christmas gift... Hmm...

Anyway, thank you very much :D

The original flexi 8 site[not lillarose] carries a guardian angel in many sizes with red/green beads and a festive pointsettia[all sizes] with red beads [comes with red dangles or no dangles] as well as the xmas light bulb one[the xmas light bulb one is only in a small size] but you can request it in a larger size.

I hope it helps you decide. To the light situation: I was sitting in a train next to the window, outside was a little cloudy. The jacket is a dark brown.

I really like that Flexi, when the color suits the rest of my outfit. My hair is darker closer to the scalp, so in a halfup I really like the contrast.

Wow that's quite a difference! You're probably right... I have a lot of breakage right where my hair elastic sits (even though I use the good kind, my hair is just fine and fragile) and I hope to eradicate that problem with the Flexi's. I feel like I have at least half an inch of thickness that doesn't make it past my ears!

I have the same sort of breakage- a heap of it, just about ear level. I feel your pain. Hopefully I can tackle that problem by boycotting elastics altogether with the help of flexi-8, cos my package came today of my first ever! :)

Hey guys! I'm just wondering what size to 'suggest' my Mum get me for Christmas.

I might get one or two and my hair is 2c/3a-M/C-ii but regrowing from a massive shed. My Cinnabun has a diameter of about 3 inches.

I was thinking getting a medium? What do you all think?

Depends what you want to do with it. Depending on your current circumference, it might be too loose for a ponytail, but if you want to use it buncage-style over your entire cinnabun, it might be a bit small (or if it isn't now, you might soon outgrow it for that purpose). It should be fine for centre-held buns like Nautilus or Lazy Wrap, though.

To give you some sort of frame of reference, I'm a ii and I can use either a small (firm hold) or a medium (just about) for a ponytail. I use a large in lazy wraps and Nautilus/pencil buns, and an XL for a full cinnabun.

Yes, they only started their multi-level marketing thing earlier this year, so there are a few bugs they have left to work out. Seems several people ordered dozens at a time, leaving none for others. I believe they will have to impose limits on how many of the monthly special can be ordered at once.
