So after I have been a member for 6o days and posted 100 messages then I should be able to access everything right? Now do posts in the social groups count too?

eadwine

No you should not be able to see everything. Members with friends only blogs and such, if you are not on their friends list you won't see their things.

Many of us got most of our post counts as high as they are because journal entries used to count as posts. Blog entries, at least at this time seem not to count.

Question for the mods or, heck, a guru who'd like to help me out.

Since it will take me, well, forever to reach guru-dom, is there any way I can submit something to the mods for consideration of the Articles board? I've been planning a how-to styling guide for a while now and would love for it to go under Articles rather than getting lost over time on the regular boards. Wishful thinking maybe, but it never hurts to ask. :) Thanks!

Anyone who drafts up a nice informative article can submit it to the mod team and one of us can put it in for you. :)

Though I'm not sure it'll really take you forever... at your current posting rate it'll only take about... 2 years? That's still twice as fast as Cinnamon Hair, after all! :p

Eh... I can understand if blog comments don't count as posts, but the blog entries? Most of my post count in the old forum came from the journal entries, since I don't hang around the boards that much. And if they don't count in the future, I'll never reach gurudom... Thank you so much for this change. It was kinda weird noticing some zero post members leaving messages on profile pages and getting to see the profile photo. Thanks for looking out for us, mods. :)

Can the under 26ers see their own messages left for them or do they pile up unseen until they go over 25? I'd like to think birthday wishes get seen that day if they log in but it also makes a nice surprise for them later so either way is good, I'd just like to know which way it happens.

Aww, it goes by faster that you think! Just start replying to people's threads, and you'll get there soon.

Got it. Call it motivation for them to find out what people want to tell them. I might as well skip the gentle nudges to the zero posters I encounter on birthday rounds though. Sometimes I notice people joined years ago but have posted nothing despite logging in recently and probably regularly. I know they can't all be here just to read hairtips. :shake:

For me, I tend to lurk a bit before actually getting involved in an online community. They may just be shy. :D

The "about me" section really helped as I looked at members. We do have a fair amount of people who are shy or just use LHC for research with no need to use this as a social site. Those people tend to have something in their profile saying "I'm here to grow out my layers" or something like that. Friendly things. Others only had things like "Long shiny hair is so nice to look at." While most of us would agree with that sentiment, if that's the only thing they have to say it sounds like they are just here to gawk.

Just_Isabel
April 30th, 2008, 10:27 AM
I don't get why people sign up to lurk - they don't get access to more parts of the LHC for being members.
Maybe they like to subscribe to threads? That's the only reason I can think of.

I signed up with the intention of getting involved, but for a little bit, the lurker part of me took over, and I just watched. I'm trying to get a bit more involved now.

And, also, for me, I don't post unless I a) have a question or b) feel I have something new to add to the discussion. Often, I don't have either one of those things, so I'm back to watching.

I know what you mean! I veeeeery often even type a reply and then just before posting it I think "nah this actually isn't that interesting :o" and end up not posting anything

(eta: that doesn't mean I only end up posting interesting things by the way  )

Well, I do see this as a virtue, it's not bad at all to sit back and read instead of posting, posting, posting :) It will take you longer to reach those post count limits but I'm very sure you'll learn a lot meanwhile.

It actually took me about 2 months to reach 100 posts and back then journal posts counted. Just look at me now, 3000+ posts :) It seems to become easier to post more when you get to know people, at least for me it did.

It did for me, too  I know that after 2 months here TLHC went down, and the time over at TBB (where only a fraction of the people here post) really helped me.

It does not seem like all the posts I have made are counted.
I know I have posted more than 5 since Dec 07.
Is it possible that some do not count?

Posts on the New Start Here board and the Games and Quizzes board do not count. So if you've posted there, those posts do not count.

Posts in the polls forum don't count, either, AFAIK.

I find some days I lurk more and read most of the blogs for the day but then on other more active days I make up for it.
Is there a limit you should stay under for number of posts in a day?

As long as you're making quality posts, there is no daily limit. By quality posts, I mean asking questions, answering them, telling information about yourself, participating actively in conversations with other members, etc. One-liner replies like "Me too!" are generally considered not quality.

Posts in the polls forum don't count, either, AFAIK.You got me wondering about that. I went over to polls and made a post. Yes, it counted. You mean Hair Polls and Projects right?

Yes, that's the forum I was talking about. I think they didn't count in the old LHC, but I'm not 100% sure (maybe 90%). (I think) I remember posting there when I was trying to reach 100 posts and they didn't count.

I thought they always counted. Maybe I just didn't notice.

Once was when the mods decided to not count posts in Games and Quizzes and the Noobie boards. I don't know what happened the other time. Maybe they reduced the number of posts but the number of times we had posted on the Polls board. There is lots of good discussion on the Polls board so I hope those posts continue to count.

I could be remembering wrong. My memory isn't always reliable. ;)

The confusion is understandable. :agree: The HP&P board changed a couple of times regarding whether posts counted or not. See this link (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/announcement.php?f=10&a=28).

Hey, the first day the boards were back up, I made 100. Yes, 100 in a day. :crazyq:
My excuse: People needed help with the new features.

Hey, ever wonder why they call it an excuse?
