Check out my BEAUTIFUL new hairsticks!! I won them in a seller's contest on Etsy. She had a lot of other gorgeous prizes but these just caught my heart so she custom made me a pair. I HIGHLY recommend her work. Her name is Krista, she keeps an awesome blog about her creative going-ons, and her pieces are truly inspired. Check her out at thefargrove.com -- and if you buy something, please let her know I sent you! :)

The sticks are solid wood and the toppers are made with nuts, cork, and other natural material beads plus green Czech glass. The leaves are actually cured leather. My hair was wet when I did the style but it's essentially just a bun where you make your hair into a slide of sorts (can't remember the name without the old article, sorry!)

Yeah, Krista's good at that. She even just made a set that's completely out a sea shells and coral!

Very cool! BTW, I think that bun was called the Easy Hair Stick Bun or something like that.

ETA: I ran off and snatched up the other pair at her store. Muahahaha! Thanks!:D

Hehe doodlesmart. I'm glad you like them and are happy to patronize her art. You should feel especially blessed because she's actually not making these anymore. That pair of Amazons in her Etsy store was the last one she plans to make. Congrats! And post some pics when you get them! :)

What an interesting new discory, thanks for sharing!

I particularly like some the of the natural materials she uses, like those apple coral beads in her latest creation.

I have visited her Etsy store and ... I think I know what I am going to be buying in my twice-yearly hairstick buying time. ;)

Thanks for all the compliments on my hair and the sticks!

Pixel Gypsy -- don't worry! You'll be growing out your dream length soon enough! :)

Stevy -- Me too. It's crazy knowing that they're leather instead of resin or acrylic. I could hardly believe it until I got to touch them . :)

Xandergrammy and Alaia -- I know! Her work is simply gorgeous. It makes me chuckle at how I used to cringe over the thought of spending $8-12 for a single stick on eBay, but now I'd rather save up and drop $35 for a piece of art I can wear in my coif. It also took owning a really GOOD hair toy to understand what a difference it can make. Anyway, I'm always happy to share another good find! Hope you get something you treasure too!

P.S. to Stevy: What did you do with your hair in your avatar pic? It looks neat but the color makes it hard to see detail. The shine is gorgeous!

that's some of the prettiest hair sticks I've seen :)

how much did they cost ya if you don't mind me asking?

NM-I saw the price.That's great :D

Wow! Those are all kinds of gorgeous. Do the dangles make them heavy or are they fairly light?

LifeisAdventure

They're actually super light because the cork and nut fibers weight about nothing, the leather leaves are more like cloth, and there isn't enough glass to really weigh it down.

I LOVE your avatar, by the way! Did you create it or is it from manga?

Awesome. My dad's been making hairsticks lately and looking for inspiration. I'd hate to suggestion something to him without thinking it through practically first, since I'm the most likely one to end up wearing his creations. ;)

I didn't create it, no. I only wish I could draw! This is a portrait I commissioned at last years Anime Central (http://www.acen.org/). It's the cuter-than-life manga version of me (http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h306/helynhighwater/Personal/AnimeHelyn.jpg). It's funny, too, because contrary to typical manga style she drew my hair much shorter than it was. The line was busy when I first went to the booth and she was offering to take a picture to work from for anyone who was willing to skip the line and come back the next day to pick up the finished product. Turns out she didn't have a laptop to display the picture on and had to work from the preview screen of her camera, which didn't show all my hair.

Even funnier was that I saw her again some months later and she recognized me because she had started another drawing. I picked the original one up, but she must have forgotten to mark my name off the list and thought she still owed me a picture. So I ended up getting a second, uncolored portrait for free.

Do they jingle when you walk? Fun!

LifeisAdventure
March 20th, 2008, 04:41 PM
Yes, they do jingle! It made a few of my short-haired coworkers quite happy when I wore them last week. :)

ETA: Why post twice? I also have an anime portrait of myself and a friend, helynhighwater. Aren't they fun? My buddy has a cheetah tail and cute little ears. I should have asked for wolfy ears and a tail, but didn't think about it at the time. This was YEARS ago but I'm so glad I did it then, as the artist has disappeared from the convention circuit and new artists aren't as good. Me and the friend in the portrait make a point to see each other at least once a year so we can exchange it, it's on my living room wall right now and makes me simply beam! :)

Definitely a lot of fun! One of my good friends that I met through Lord of the Rings was the one who introduced me to anime/manga. She asked me if I could come help out on staff for a con she was working and has been corrupting me ever since. 8) She and I will be at Anime Central again this year and we plan to cosplay as Soubi and Ritsuka of Loveless. If the same artist is there again this year {I think she said she would be} I should see if I could get my friend to sit for one. :grouphug:

Anime and manga is great fuel for long hair obsession, since so many characters tend to have long hair. :cheese:
