View Full Version : Waist by Summer 2014!

Inspired by the Waist by Christmas 2013 thread, I decided to start this one! Summer officially starts on June 21, 2014.

I am at BSL right now, and should definitely be at Waist by this summer!

Ooooh I'm with you there! My hair is extremely layered and only a tiny bit hits waist at the moment just barely so I don't consider myself exactly to be at waist. By summer though more layers should catch up and I'll be at waist proper. Let's do this!!!

I'm in! I'm at waist at the moment (even a bit past that) but I still got layers I want to get rid of. So you can see it at: completely waist at summer 2014 :o.

You guys are much closer than I am! I cut off my layers in August. But it's a great feeling to not have layers anymore!

I don't have the courage to do that, haha. I'm going to grow till I'm 32" and then cut all growth for about 6 months. :)

My longest layer may get there by then :)
It currently is "can I call this BSL? And my shorter layers are only a little past APL, so i got a ways to go :p

Count me in! I'm 30 inches at the moment, another 2-3 until my longest layers hit waist then I'm waiting there to grow out layers. I can't wait to get rid of them!

I'll join :) I'm always hovering around BSL because I trim too much, so maybe this goal will help keep me away from the scissors :P I'm at 28 inches right now and waist is about 30 or 31, so I think this will be doable :) happy growing everyone!

I just did my first very thorough S&D the other day, i took very small sections of hair all around until i was done which took two hours :O There wasnt much damage which makes me verrrry happy. So now, im really hoping to be at waist by May next year when my two year anniversary is but could my hair grow from BSL to waist in just 6 months? Its hard to believe :( Its such a short time... so i can only hope. Summer here in Australia is about to start in a couple of weeks (Late Nov) tho :p. Cheers

I'm up for the challenge but not sure it's possible. I'm barely at BSL right now, and I don't have a waist! I just trimmed some bad ends off yesterday so my hair is ready and tangle-free.

I've been reading about increase in growth rate by eating more protein so that is what I'm planning to do.

I have not been able to get my subscription notifications to work. Does anyone else have trouble with it? I want to subscribe to this thread.

I'm in! I just cut a bunch length off to get rid of a terrible overly layered hair cut. I'm at nip length but want to grow to waist again.

YAY there are plenty of us, this is fantastic!!!

I know some of you have chopped off layers but if I was to chop at my shortest I'd have shoulder length hair - NO WAY. And my hair gets fairytales so easily that I can't pull off blunt hems anyways so here's to just growing out my layers and getting more fairytales than ever. :P

I'm joining too! I'm maybe an inch or so longer than BSL and my hair usually grows about 3/4-1" a month so I think I'll make it by then. After than I might cut half my growth every month so I can get rid of my layers and I'm contemplating growing out my henna since I haven't seen my natural color since I was 12.

Pick me pick me! :D I'm hoping for that. I'm at MBL now, with fairy tail ends, my hair grows slowly, so I hope I'm gonna get there with at least first layers :) Than I'm planning a stall at waist untill it all thickens up a bit. So I'm here :D

I'm in as well. Only longest layer is close to the waist. Other layers go down from BSL, I'm now waiting until they will all reach the waist!

Count me in! I cut back to almost BSL a few months ago and am now bored before I've even hit the mid-back abyss properly. It's going to be a LONG wait until summer!

This is my inspiration shot, I'm pretty sure it's a child but as my hair is fine and wavy I'm hoping the best case scenario will look a little something like this, without the bangs (and possibly with a little rag-curl help on the ends):

Yay, im not alone. This is exciting :) We better not forget to come back to this thread and brag about how we all hit waist by your summer time :)
I dont plan to cut and havent done so for a long time now but i do keep a close eye on my ends and S&D :) Im pretty sure that my hair grows slow so i really cant trim if i want to gain length. Cheers all :)

Waist is my goal, it might be possible by summer 2014... so, I am joining.
Summer is vague (not a criticism, just my thinking "out loud") so I am setting my goal for my birthday in July.
I also have a weight loss goal that I am continuing to work on currently.
My mantra shall be: Lose weight, grow hair!

Lots of people notice growth spurts during Summer, perhaps that will give each of us a last minute boost towards our goal if we need it by then :) My hair seems so much shorter than it actually is, does anyone else suffer from this sort of delusion? haha

I was hoping I'd be to waist by Christmas 2013 but that is not going to happen so hopefully by summer. I only got one trim this year but it seems like it has stalled at BSL. Maybe I'll ask Santa for a little stinkin growth already!

I definitely do! While wet, my hair is only an inch or two from waist, but it feels SO short.

Love this! I am almooooost there but not quite with the very ends of my hair but most of my hair is BSL. I hope a solid 6 months of care and I will be at waist. I am secretly hoping for it to happen by March (my birthday) but I think July is more realistic!

I'm in Australia too so I'm hoping the hot weather will give me some major length. This will be the longest my hair has been for a long time and I really regret not taking better care of it over the last few years :(

I am not sure where I belong. My hair is very curly, and TECHNICALLY it is already a little past waist, but when the curls spring up it looks like a little below bra strap length... So I guess I probably need to grow it to tailbone or longer, but I am hoping it will LOOK like waist length by summer 2014!!

Whoever she is and whatever age she is, the hair is gorgeous. My thoughts might be skewed by the fact that the last time I had long wispy virgin hair like that, I was around 10 years old.

For those of us living in the Northern hemisphere, do you have any special tricks up your sleeve to make sure winter doesn't wreck your hair? I'm always curious to hear how other people deal with it, I mostly just stuff my hair under my hat and hope it doesn't dry out too much. Any pro tips would be welcome, I don't want to make it to spring only to find out I need to trim more than I've grown!

I'll definitely be waist by my summer (december in Australia) next year but not by June I don't think, which is our winter. I'm just at BSL now so unless I get some great growth this coming summer I don't think I'll make it. I can hope :D

Bumping for the New Year!

My concerns about winter wreaking havoc on my hair have turned out to be pointless, as winter hasn't reached us yet. Which is good because even with the warmer, more humid air I'm long overdue for an SMT! We seem to be missing our sauna shift too often for me to remember to do one.

I'm not even at waist yet, and am already considering moving my ultimate goal length down to at least hip. I wish I could hit one milestone before I start pining for the next! :D

Forgot about this thread :) I feel pretty close to waist at this point but ive just gone on a challenge to keep my hair up until May when i reach my 2 year anniversary. I really hope to be solid by then but UNTIL THEN im not to look at my lenght anymore and ive even decided to stop taking photo progress as well. I think that by now, i can see how my hair will grow since ive been taking photos in the past 1 year and 8 months - I want a brake.

I'm joining here. I'm still figuring out how fast my hair grows. I was worried I wouldn't reach it by Christmas 2014..but then I see so many in here with length similar to mine.
So I'm joining here and the Christmas 2014 group...and hoping to be there sometime between the two. :)
Had a trim December 2013..and do not plan to trim again until December 2014. No heat(except bangs), no dyes, no cuts(except bangs), hoping to stretch washes from twice a week to once, keeping it up more then down.

i think waist might be what i am aiming for but I'm not sure haha... would that be similar to a couple inches above the belly button? If so, i belong here :) That is my dream length, and i never seem to be able to quite there. My hair is currently a couple inches above my elbows when my arms are at my side. But I feel like a need a trim for my poor ends... the cycle continues... I think i might need to "suffer" and prolong the time between trims, at least for now, until i get the length that i want and then can maintain.

I'm in! My hair is past BSL now, and has about four inches to go before it's brushing waist. So it definitely should be there by the end of the summer, but if I keep it up whenever I go out and only microtrim it, maybe I'll be there by the start of summer instead!

I'll join in. I hope to be solid waist by the END of summer... so if I am there by August I will be just as pleased. I'm about an inch or two past BSL and have maybe 2-3 inches until waist... there's a very small gap from BSL to Waist on my torso. However, I need about an inch trimmed off and I plan to do that around Feb/March. I need to remeasure next time I clarify I really hope the number will suffice for the length that I see. I don't think my hair has ever been longer than this (mid-back). My last few inches are very wispy and I prefer a solid hemline to grow it out strong.

I finally got around to doing an SMT, yay! Just in time too, the weather is getting colder so it's good to get a bit of extra moisture in. My wonderful husband didn't even bat an eye at me hanging out with my hair wrapped in cling film, definitely a keeper that one. :D

I was looking at my soaking wet hair and I think I'm getting quite close to waist that way. I obviously won't call it until it's at waist dry and in its natural texture, but it's so nice to see some progress. It sometimes feels like MBL will never end!

vanillabones
January 11th, 2014, 12:19 PM
inanna was it your first SMT? How did you like it and did you shampoo and condition after rinsing it out or just rinsed it out? I've never done one but I think it's time I do some deep treatments and stop ignoring my hair.

I just measured my unruly unwashed hair and it is 27" the last inch defiantly needs to go.. it's crunchy and thin and nasty. Waist is 29" on me! Closer than I thought but I need help deciding if I should grow to 29" then cut back and inch or maintain or just get the trim over with before summer time and see how it grows in the warmer season.

vanillabones, I've done one before but I mixed it up a little this time. Previously I've washed my hair with (sulphate) shampoo and then applied the SMT, letting it sit in my hair while I'm in the sauna on and off for about half an hour. I covered my hair with a damp towel to keep it from drying out, I've heard that an SMT can stick to your hair like crazy if it dries out too much. After that I just rinsed off the SMT and that was that. This time I applied the SMT to dry hair about half an hour before going to the sauna, let it sit and then washed my hair as usual. My hair seems to be rather low porosity and doesn't seem too bothered either way, so I can't really recommend one method over the other. I think my hair felt slightly softer when I washed first and then SMT'd, probably because then I didn't wash out all the good stuff.

Before you chop off an inch, do try a clarifying wash followed by an SMT or the like! I find that my crunchy ends are often caused by buildup, as I rarely if ever apply shampoo all the way down to the ends. I'd imagine that New England is about as friendly climate-wise as Finland, so definitely hold off until the spring thaw if you can, because the dry and cold hair will wreck your ends no matter how fresh they are. ;)

Thank you so much for the advice, the SMT sounds easy enough and I guess I will try it both ways. I'll probably like both I'll just have to be careful to not get my hair too greasy from it or anything. I'll definitely try this next clarifying wash using Aloe, Honey, and V05 conditioner. It is extremely dry here right now so that could be it. I'm going to try Emichee's method of microtriming if the SMT doesn't work as well as expected I'm really looking forward to this because even 1cm trim could improve my hemline extensively.

Towards the end of December I was just about brushing waist (only the longest part of my U hemline) but I recently cut off a couple of cm so I'm still MBL. I should hopefully be at a more solid waist by summer, but as I don't want to go any longer than that I'm in no rush.

Here was where I was at before the trim:

prettyhairisred, you're a far more patient longhair than me if you can wait until you hit waist in the front before calling it. I'm totally going to throw myself a little "I'm at waist" party the second I notice my hair has hit waist in the back! ;)

It has now become cold enough over here that if I put coconut oil on my hair and top bun it for the night, my hair gets kind of stiff as the oil cools down. Looks like it's double-beanie time again, which means I'll have to say farewell to hairsticks for now. I'm still at the "stare intently at YouTube and hit pause every 20 seconds" stage of making buns, so I can't just carry around a stick and whip my hair up after the beanie(s) come off.

It being this cold and snowy is sort of reassuring, though, because it makes me feel like summer is a long way away and I have all the time in the world to reach waist before the imaginary deadline! :D

Wow mariakatija, that was some fast growth! Congratulations!

I'm contemplating taking a length shot but I'm really scared it'll show no growth whatsoever. On the other hand I've been toying with the idea of microtrimming and I'm waiting to hit waist before starting, so I guess it'd be useful to know where I am before buying scissors and "just trying them out a bit", which might lead to losing a lot of length. ;)

I just wanted to report that I made waist! This is my second time reaching waist length, I was actually almost hip in August 2013 but I cut about 4" of old damage away and ended up at BSL again. I am happily back to waist again, and actually a tiny bit past that. I'm hoping to reach Hip by Christmas, sooner if I have any say in the matter. I am planning on a small trim sometime in the next few months (June?) but nothing major. Maybe .5"? My last cut was the big one in August '13, but I can't really find any damage yet. I may not trim in June either if I still can't find a reason to trim.

Anyway, I made waist!

Just to update - I made waist when stretched. So it's not really waist, but technically is xD I plan at trimming 1cm every month now here, so I'll guess I'll be hoovering around waist for at least half a year, and then we'll see :) Have to check if there's a "waist by winter 2014" thread :p

I've been at waist length for quite a long time. Good luck everyone!

Funny I was looking for this thread and all of the sudden it popped up under new posts lol

Wet, I'm at waist! :D yaaaay!
I'm definitely at a solid mid-back dry(I think) with the long strands tickling waist. So, I hope to be at solid waist by the end of summer. :)

I might make it by late summer. I had six inches to go over a month ago. I'm not going to measure until next month. I'm going to try this. I need a goal to aim for.
